  • "Why do you have a stick?" - this is a question I get asked very often. In this spoken-word poetry piece, I share why I do, and the role Ehelrs-Danlos syndrome plays in it all.
As I post this, it's May - which also happens to be Ehlers-Danlos syndrome awareness month.
To know more about chronic illnesses such as endometriosis, PCOS, adenomyosis, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, fibromyalgia and more, you can browse through this channel of mine, or even check out my blog: allthingsendom...

Also, it would be great to know your experiences of when you may have experienced something similar, whether with yourself or someone you know - or even just how you felt hearing this spoken-word poetry piece. I look forward to reading and responding. Thank you :)

    Beautiful poetry!
After a very invasive abdominal surgery after my cancer - which they never would've done if I had properly been diagnosed with EDS - I used my late grandfather's walking cane for assistance. It was sort of like having my grandfather with me during a rough time. I also thought the cane looked quite fashionable. Canes and walking sticks were actually a fashion accessory and a status symbol between the 17th century and early 20th century.

I walk with a walking stick ( cane) and I have had people ask me why I use it or ask me what happened to me? I have EDS and I have mobility problems therefore I’m a high fall risk. Thank you for explaining this very well! Hopefully people will understand better and become more educated and more aware of why we need a walking stick/ cane.

Thank you for sharing that it connects with your experiences too - I guess we're all, regardless of which part of the world we're in, we're battling similar challenges. Somewhere it's good to know and somewhere it gives you more strength to push and educate others too.
