And Roger Moore's last is sadly his worst. Some fun action and Roger Moore-ness can still be found, however, Roger Moore feels a little too old for the roll and the action did not feel like it had the same impact as some of the other grande sequences. Still enjoyed it though!
Thanks for watching! Have a great day! :)
My dude; that's not a Random song. It's Californian Girls by The Beach Boys, and it's a Surfing song. This movie was before Snowboarding was a thing, and Snowboarding is take on Surfing, hence the Surfing song!
you skipped over Never say never agian
Timothy Dalton is up next. A lot younger and a lot deadlier.
@@danielscott8180 he was a a great 007. wish he made more
Never Say Never Again (1983) 👍👍👍
After that will be Timothy Dalton's two films , which are two of my favs. They are fantastic. i wish he did more
Tanya Roberts was one of “Charlie’s Angels” and was also on “That 70’s Show”. She sadly died in January of 2021 at age 71 of an infection.
Really? I thought it was cancer.
@@nathanfitzgerald6651 No, it was a urinary tract infection that developed into deadly sepsis before she was even aware of how bad it was. She began having pain and her husband rushed her to the hospital, but it was too late.
Wasn't she 65?
Grace Jones ("Mayday") played "Zula" in Conan the Destroyer :)
'A View To A Kill' has an interesting reception from fans. It's either one of the best or one of the worst. For me, it's one of the best.
Mayday is an intimidating and interesting hench, Zorin is hilariously over-the-top and genuinely intimidating, and as you said, by this point they were just having fun with the film. It's like how I'll defend 'Moonraker' for at least being entertaining, the same applies here. The worst Bond films are the dull, boring, forgettable ones. There's NOTHING forgettable about 'A View To A Kill'.
Trivia time: if you're wondering what the deal was with the random Russian agent Bond meets in the third act, Pola Ivanova... she was actulaly meant to be Anya Anasova from 'The Spy Who Loved Me', but the actress refused to return for such a tiny cameo part, so they simply wrote her in as a new character Bond already knew, hence why he acts so chummy with someone we've literally never met once.
This was the final film for Moore's Bond as well las Lois Chiles' Moneypenny, but don't worry, Q sticks around for TWO more Bonds before saying goodbye (and unlike the others, he actually DOES get a goodbye scene in the film, so you'll know when it's time for him to go).
Also, if you liked Bond in a top-hat, you'll have a very nice surprise waiting for you in 'License To Kill'... (a personal favourite of mine)
I get some of the complaints, but there’s so much to love as well. It’s a favorite of mine, for the reasons you stated. And I will also defend Moonraker! 👍
@@namelessjedi2242 For me, the biggest crime a piece of 'entertainment' can commit is just being boring. I rank 'Diamonds Are Forever' and a later film (Craig's 2nd, won't name it since Ollie isn't there yet) as the worst Bond films simply because they're so unbelievably dull and dreary, they're a pain to sit through. 'Moonraker', 'A View To A Kill', and Brosnan's 4th movie are at least ENTERTAINING, even if they're absurd and over-the-top.
It's the weakest Moore movie, but still quite enjoyable. I think it was the first i saw in the theaters. The problem was Moore was just too old. After Connery quit in 1967, it's unfortunate that Roger Moore couldn't start out in "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" and "Diamonds Are Forever" then end with "For Your Eyes Only." That way, in his first movie, he would have gotten married, and in his last, he would have killed the man who murdered his wife. Beyond that, I think Timothy Dalton would have done great with Octopussy and A View to a Kill.
It’s score alone is easily better than practically all of the Bond movies that came after it.
Great review Ollie....Here's some trivia for ya...
The Duran Duran theme song reached number one on the US pop charts and number two UK pop charts in 1985 (the first ever for a James Bond picture). Singer Simon Lebon met Albert "Cubby" Broccoli at a party in London one night and complained that none of the Bond pictures had a kick @$$ Bond theme tune by a hit recording artist since the 60s, which Cubby asked him "hey, are you available to record the next one?".
Patrick McNee (who played Tibet) and Roger Moore were very good friends for many years prior to Moore playing Bond since they were both working on their own TV series shot at the same studio in England the 60s (McNee played John Steed on the British Avengers and Moore as Simon Templar on The Saint). When the original actor who was selected to play Tibet had to turn down the role due to a conflicting work schedule, it was Moore who suggested his old friend for the part.
This was Dolph Lundgren's big screen debut as one of General Gogle's KBG agents, as he was also dating May Day (Grace Jones) at the time in real life. Another extra was selected to originally play the part but when he never showed up on set, Dolph who was there to meet Grace for lunch, stepped in to help keep the production on schedule. He would later say in many interviews that it was a fun experience and what made him to want to become an actor.
That Rolls-Royce car that Tibet drives was actually producer's Albert "Cubby" Broccoli's own car that he allowed to be used for the production (however the film crew did purchase a separate Rolls-Royce and specially modified it for all the underwater sequences).
Jenny Flex is played by Allison Doody who would play opposite another James Bond actor, Sean Connery, in Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade (1989) as Elsa Schneider.
The world premiere for this Bond film was actually held at San Francisco's Palace of Fine Arts (instead of London as many of the other Bond pictures had been before) in 1985 due to the fact that Dianne Feinstein (who would later become a US senator) was mayor of San Francisco at the time of filming (and she gave the Bond film crew carte blanche & premission to do whatever they needed to film within the city) and as a big thank you back to her.
This film was adapted into two video games in 1985. The first, titled 'A View To A Kill', was published by Domark. It was available for the ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC, Commodore 64, Oric 1 and Oric Atmos, and MSX. The second, titled 'James Bond 007: A View To A Kill was a text adventure for DOS and Apple II computers. It was developed by Angelsoft, Inc. and published by Mindscape Inc.
The film was loosely adapted into a series of four 'Find Your Fate' adventure game books: Win, Place, or Die; Strike it Deadly; Programmed for Danger; and Barracuda Run, which were all released in 1985.
A children's storybook with cassette tape was adapted from this movie by the Kid Stuff Records & Tapes company (along with several other Bond stories Dr. No, The Spy Who Loved Me & Moonraker)
A tabletop role-playing game adventure for the James Bond 007 RPG game system was released under the film's name.
In the 1992 Sega Mega Drive/Sega Genesis/Sega Master System/Sega Game Gear game 'James Bond 007: The Duel', a cloned version of May Day is one of the game's many bosses (along side the cloned versions of other previous Bond villains such as Baron Samedi, Odd Job & Jaws). May Day was a playable multiplayer character in the 1997 and 2000 video games 'GoldenEye 007' and '007: The World Is Not Enough' for the Nintendo 64. In the 2002 game 'James Bond 007: Nightfire', May Day and Max Zorin also appears as bots. Other references include Nikolai Diavolo, a character in the 2004 game 'James Bond 007: Everything Or Nothing', claiming Zorin to be his mentor and friend. In 'GoldenEye: Rogue Agent', a multiplayer level is the summit of the Golden Gate Bridge, including the Zorin blimp, which would fire on players when activated. Players are also able to climb the suspension cables (similar to the events of the film as well). 😉
Sorry to correct what is a very interesting comment, but Duran Duran only got to no.2 in the UK thanks to a young synthesiser upstart called Paul Hardcastle who zoomed from nowhere straight to number 1 with "19"
@@davidbull7210 - ok soooooo, it reached #2 on the UK charts...and that diminishes the kickass James Bond song how?
FYI, I corrected the minor error on this three months old post that was bothering you so much, are you satisfied now?
@@MLJ7956 I wasn't remotely bothered. I respond to all sorts of comments on RUclips, often after I've consumed alcohol. You're obviously a perfectionist and I'm quite hot on accuracy too so let's call it a draw.
RIP Sir Roger, 5 years already on may 23rd. Still miss him dearly.💖💖 Nice to have this reaction. On point as always 🙂
The joke about this being Tibbett’s villain origin story killed me 😂😂😂
I always loved Zorin's laughter in this movie, like he genuinely enjoys being evil. Fun fact, did you catch Dolph Lundgren's appearance here as a KGB agent, his first acting job, thanks to Grace Jones whom he was dating at the time.
MayDay was played by Grace Jones, one of the most iconic models/actresses/musicians of the 1980s. A favourite of Andy Warhol. She even performed at the Queen's 50th Anniversary Concert in front of Buckingham Palace.
I co-starred with Roger Moore in 'A View to a Kill'. I got 8 seconds of screen-time. I'm a legend in my own mind. I was the blond guy with the white jacket outside city hall when they brought out the stretcher.
The true meaning of ("From A View To A Kill" - the title of the short story is "What are you going to do when you know that you are about to be murdered?". The KGB Guard of General Gogol was played by Dolph Lundgren.
I loved Christopher Walken in this, you can tell he was having a lot of fun as the murderous villain. And that murderous scene in the blimp: "Does anyone else wish to drop out?" Best Bond villain since Goldfinger.
Zorin and the soundtrack are the highlights of this one, the slowed down instrumental version of the theme when they're approaching the Golden Gate Bridge is beautiful.
This is my personal favorite. While Roger Moore was too old (even he thought so) and Tanya Roberts was too shrill, the story was engaging, the stunts were awesome, and Christopher Walken and Grace Jones were a couple of the greatest villains in the franchise! In fact, May Day's last minute screw you to Zorin is one of the greatest villain redemptions in movie history!
Mine too 🔥❤
It’s really memorable with some iconic characters and scenes. In the end, that is what I remember despite certain weaknesses. I also love the music.
Grace Jones was in Conan the Destroyer
Grace jones (Mayday) was also in Conan the Destroyer.
The original M (Bernard Lee) and Moneypenny (Lois Maxwell) can be seen together, playing similar roles, in the James Bond spoof/rip-off Operation Kid Brother (aka OK Connery, aka Operation Double 007) alongside Neil Connery (Sean's brother), Daniela Bianchi, Adolfo Celi and Anthony Dawson. In fact, Lois Maxwell gets far more to do in that film than in any of the official films.
Q is in most of the James Bond films right up until The World is Not Enough (1999) sadly the actor playing Q, died in a car crash
Up to that point, Christopher Walken was the first academy Award Winner to star in a 007 film. He won best supporting actor in The Deer Hunter. David Bowie and Rutger Hauer were considered to play Zorin before Walken got the role. Interesting choices.
I'm honestly really looking forward to your reaction to Never Say Never Again. That movie doesn't get enough attention. Fun Fact: while it was made by a different film company, MGM does currently own the rights to it.
I used to not like this movie but it grew on me. This movie is underated, I love this!
Octopussy and A View To A Kill are my most watched Bond movies do to free time of being a child in the 80s, but while Octopussy remains as my favorite Bond movie, A View To A Kill [Favorite Bond title], slips considerably down the rankings.)
One of the biggest problems is, instead of Bond being off in an exotic locale, much of the movie has boring, American set pieces.
Two things I find disappointing: Bond in the USA or Bond in England. Seems to be unimaginative and too familiar. The globe hopping and exotic locales are a big part of the fun!
This movie to me is underrated the cast is good action is good and i like the 1985 vibe im sad u didn’t enjoy it but 🎉 good reaction
"Q" doesn't get his send off until the Brosnon era.
View to a Kill is easily my favorite Moore, and one of my favorite Bonds. While the ending isn't the best send-off to Roger, the movie as a whole is a great last adventure. Who doesn't love the fight on top of Golden Gate? Fantastic action set piece.
Walken is amazing as Zorin. A charming affectation over a psychotic core. Utterly ruthless, and crazy to the end.
Mayday is iconic, and pulls the ultimate face-turn by stopping Zorin's plan. Grace Jones has such striking features that Mayday doesn't need a lot of lines to express everything. And the moment Zorin betrays her, she's on James' team.
"She has super vibrant eyes!"
RIP to Tanya Roberts. She was gorgeous. She gets a starring role in Sheena (1984).
Duran Duran did the music for this movie or at least the main theme song "A View to a Kill"
Sir Roger Moore had an eye-lift right before they film this movie. It is the reason he looks surprised all the time. Moore says he "was only about 10 years too old" for the film. Walken makes a top-villain. Some great Walken lines for sure: "I'm happiest in the saddle," "Mr. Bond, you... aMUZe me!" "Moar, moar... Powah!"
Ian Fleming wrote a short story called "From a View to a Kill".
I read your shirt halfway through your reaction, and burst out laughing! :D
This is also Lois Maxwell's last appearance as Miss Moneypenny but the character does continue with a different actress.
Yes, you could tell with the teen figure skater in "For Your Eyes Only" that they had to make the Bond girls younger and younger to make too-old Roger Moore a "father figure" who was more frustrated by the lil' whippersnapper than attracted to her.
And there was a big push to get Christopher Walken into 80's mainstream roles, but Zorin still plays like a "Walken auditions for a Bond villain" SNL sketch: "Oh....you do amuse me...Mr. BOND."
My ranking:
Live and let die
The spy who loved me
For your eyes only
Octopussy
Moonraker
The man with the golden gun
A view to a kill
Great reaction Ollie
Good one 🔥🔥💯💯👍👍
Well done spotting the boom mike. What a find! In TMWTGG you can see the whole film crew reflected in a mirror.
This was, indeed, Lois Maxwell's final appearance as Moneypenny. She requested that her character be killed off, but they went with a new actress in the role instead for the next film in the series. She passed away in 2007. After her death, Roger Moore remarked that she would have made a wonderful M!
I remember seeing this at the cinema when it came out. I was probably 13. Family vacation. I think we were in Jasper that night. My dad was asleep before the opening credits ended lol. Although not considered one of the franchise's best it's still a Bond film and entertaining
Duran Duran's theme song from this movie is one of my favorites! Pure 80's new wave style.
Soon you will see The Living Daylights. It was my absolute favorite till Casino Royale came out. Timothy Dalton is an amazing Bond. I still have one of the choose your own adventure books they made back in 1985 for A View to a Kill. This was when my personal Bond enchantment began. I was 13.
Tanya Roberts indeed has amazing eyes. Apart from co-starring in That '70s Show, she was also the last of the "new" Charlie's Angels on the original 1976-1981 TV series, as well as the female lead in the super fun barbarian fantasy film The Beastmaster (starring Marc Singer). and she takes the lead in the 1984 adaptation of the 1940s jungle adventure comic book, Sheena, Queen of the Jungle.
*Sees something cool in the background*
"I hope that is used. I hope this happens."
*Movie proceeds to do so*
That's Cubby Brocooli's Rolls, RolyPolyOllie, because that's the way he rolls.
I really enjoyed A View to a Kill. Roger is great and Zorin and May Day are very memorable villains. I think Zorin showed his psychopathic side a few other times in the film like when he had that guy get cut up in a fan head first and when he shot Stacey's boss in cold blood. His laugh was pretty crazy too.
If you're looking for other Roger Moore films to check out I highly recommend Fflokes (aka, North Sea Hijack), Gold and The Man Who Haunted Himself. That last one I mentioned is Roger's best acting. He said the same thing on the commentary track. He really got to stretch.
I really am enjoying your 007 reactions!
They don’t use explosive gas in blimps after the Hindenburg disaster in 1937, hence the explosion was limited to the cabin
Grace Jones (Mayday) was a jamaican born model actress!
Zoran Corporation (1981-2011) was the reason behind the disclaimer at the beginning.
The musical moments you love from the film are all variations of the Theme Song.
Unfortunately yes A View to a Kill is last James Bond movie with Roger Moore. But that's not the end, James Bond will return in Living Daylights with Timothy Dalton.
a vast improvement
The blimp explosion was realistic, cause it is full of helium.
There does seem to be a tradition in the Bond series that when a long term Bond actor who has played the character for a number of years and has clocked up a hefty number of movies is about to vacate the role and make way for another actor that their final movie usually turns out to be the weakest of their tenure. Having said that, over the years as Octopussy which was once a very popular entry in the series has started to drop in popularity in recent years A View to a Kill has actually gone the other way and grown in popularity.
On the plus side, even though Roger Moore didn't bow out on a total high. Let's be honest, neither did Sean Connery, when one long time Bond leaves and their replacement takes over, the franchise always feels newly energised and Timothy Dalton's films did feel very fresh and energetic after Roger Moore's very long run of seven movies. As much as I enjoyed Roger Moore's James Bond, I actually found Timothy Dalton's take to be a breath of fresh air and very exciting as it is quite different to what Moore did. True, Moore was definitely the horny Bond but Dalton was promoted at the time as the intense and dangerous Bond. Enjoy.
I really wish we had more Dalton films in the series. It usually takes a couple films for a new actor to really start making the role their own. We missed that with Dalton.
@@namelessjedi2242 Agreed. His two films were so wildly different in tone a third or even a fourth would have really cemented his time as Bond and defined his interpretation.
I usually compare this to Diamonds are Forever as the 2 lowest on my list.
I mean imagine if Christopher Walken had been in Diamonds are forever....
Not the greatest but still great in the theater. The action scenes are awesome. Paris and San Francisco are two of the best locations in the world for shooting. And of course 1985 Tanya Roberts is ultra beautiful. If you want to see more, ahem of her check out the the cheesy eighties classic Sheena.
And she was also in The Beastmaster (1983) - and that was the role that Albert "Cubby" Broccoli saw her in and hired her to be the Bond girl for this movie...😉
I was A Bit Sad to See Roger Moore’s Last Bond Film A View To A Kill in 1985 but it Was Bloody Good Though A View To A Kill A Great Movie with Grace Jones & Tanya Roberts & Christopher Walken in
For the record; James Bond is under Her Majesty's Secret Service, which means Bond has Diplomatic Immunity. Even if they did arrest him; they can't make it stick. The only reason why Bond turns the water on the police officer; is because he's under a time crunch, and doesn't have the time to wait for his Government to get him out of police custody.
First time many people would have seen snowboarding I think.
Dolph was there because he and Grace Jones were a couple at the time.
Tanya Roberts has sadly passed away in January last year
Huxley - "Who the hell are you talking to, hooman?"
"He loves only silicon! Only silicon! He loves silicon!!!"
Yeah, this is just Goldfinger with microchips. Walken and Jones are great, though. The Moore/Roberts romance is just weird.
Zorin lost against Bond because he didn't have enough cowbell.
If you would like one more taste of Roger Moore being "Bond"
You need to check out "The Cannonball Run"
@0:42 Huxley’s putting fleas in your bed. I like the way she stares at you. She can’t understand you staying at uni. Give her lots of play and pets.
Moore held his own
i need to watch some of your james bond movies.. this was good.. thanks man
You’ll really enjoy Timothy Dalton Films
Grace Jones used to be with Dolph Lundgren (ivan drago)

Roger Moore was 57 when A View To A Kill came out. His age was beginning to show and the role needed to be recasted.
Omg i loved this movie and i loved Duran Duran who sang the theme song from this movie. Please react to another 80's classic The Breakfast Club 1985.....thanks

You gotta react to ( IF LOOKS COULD KILL ) 1991🔥. IJames Bond was in high school
Very good reaction. I really like this one too. It is also my least favourite Roger Moore one, but i rank all 7 of his highly. I'm subscribing to you to check out your other vids.
James Bond or Huxley? Def Huxley every time!
Grace Jones (Mayday) was/is a successful singer in the 1980's.
She still does concerts now!
Time now for the most underrated Bond, Timothy Dalton. The Living Daylights and Licence to Kill are two of the best Bond films.
License to Kill is my fave Bond film, after the Connery movies. Some denigrate it because Miami Vice was popular, but it's the harshest of the Bonds and closest to the style of the books. Moore hardly ever used the license to kill. Dalton was different.
@@Joe-hh8gd Yeah I agree. I wish Dalton had done a few more Bond films,. Another two in that six-year hiatus between LTK and Goldeneye would have been great in a perfect world. I'm pretty sure the first draft of Goldeneye was written with Dalton in mind before Brosnan was hired. Dalton influenced the Craig era more than people realize too.
@@danielscott8180 Also notable for David Hedison (The Fly) returning as Felix. The only actor who played the role twice.
Yes james bond was first snowboarding ever. They would not get on ski slopes for 3-4 years
She looks so familiar….
the chase was take with the cameras and in one single take, but 007 wasn't in peril ever!
The first James Bond movie I saw in the theater was Live and Let Die. The last one I paid money to go see was Moonraker. That one was so bad it turned me off from Bond films altogether until Daniel Craig's Casino Royal.
the two Dalton films are excellent
You do know who Tchaikovsky was, right? 😁
May Day could indeed beat you up. The actress/singer Grace Jones ended up injuring several stuntmen she was fighting with a giant wooden pole in the Arnold Schwarzenegger fantasy film Conan the Destroyer the previous year to this movie. that said, her most sublime work is as a cutting edge pop star and LGBTQ icon: ruclips.net/video/CdJiIP3KQfo/видео.html
Roger Moore looks very creaky in this film - though weirdly when he made it he was only 3 years older than Daniel Craig is now !
Many say it's the worst of the Bond movies. It's my fav so go figure ;)
As someone who's seen all the Bond movies a number of times, i don't get what you mean by Roger Moore being "The Horny James Bond." If anything, Sean Connery feels a lot more horny than Moore. Sean Connery comes off as a but lecherous at times. As for Moore, in his first outing, Live and Let Die, his sexuality was amped up a bit, but i think it was toned down a lot after that...moreso with each movie. I don't know. Roger Moore sometimes seems more apathetic about getting the girl, whereas Connery seems more like a tail-chaser. Anyway, just my thoughts.
I would prefer watching AVTAK than the newer Bond movies. The new Bond movies lack the wittiness, excitement, charm, sophistication, elegance and exoticness of the old classic Bond movies. What we have now is a dull, overdramatic, and confusing plot with a blonde bland actor who is Bourne/Statham/Rambo wannabe. RIP Sir Roger and Sir Sean. Both of you are the best James Bond.
The older Bond films are more rewatchable.
Wait. you skipped over Never say Never agian. you need to go back.
Rewatch his intro
@@zatoichi1 yeah i did thanks. i typed this before i watched.
This was a bad script. My favorite part is when James Bond steals a fire truck in front of City Hall….and is still driving it around the following day!
If I recall correctly Roger Moore and Grace Jones didn't get along during filming and Roger actually hated her and in interviews later on in his life about the film he refused to even say her name and would only refer to her as "She who will not be named"- Roger has always been known as a jovial, warm and funny person so if HE hates you you must have some issues.......
.....and those issue are someone with talent and wisdom
Finally getting to this one which is one of the worst ones ever. In fact my 2nd worst one.

I’ve always believed, and this movie was no exception, anytime James Bond goes to the US, it SUCKS lol We all would’ve loved Roger Moore’s final Bond movie to be awesome but nope. It has its moments but it just doesn’t seem “epic”, and epic is what Roger Moore’s last movie deserves.
