I just switched from a Trezor to a Coldcard. The Trezor was idiot-proof - a doddle to set up & use, but the Coldcard is mind-bogglingly complicated to a non-techie like me. It is on a whole different level, and I am having to navigate a lot of stuff I've never even heard of! I would be lost without your helpful tutorials - thank you!

Great video thanks again. Inspired by your videos I have set up my own node on Umbrel, connected my Sparrow wallet and sent BTC from my Sparrow wallet to my Umbrel BTC wallet ready to start setting up channels on Lighting. So much more to learn but I think the first steps have been made. I would encourage everyone to have a go at this. I have no prior commputer skills and have never written a line of code and I managed. Its very doable.

    Hi Ben,
    Great video - thank you!
One quick question: Is there any way of VERIFYING the receive address on the multisig wallet, on your Coldcard?
On Coldcard single sig, you can look-up the receive (and change) addresses and verify it matches what you're seeing on Sparrow. I can't find a way on Coldcard multisig.
    Any help appreciated.

  • @Satssetyoufree

Thanks Ben, helpful to see Sparrow working in action. I would have preferred to see you verify the receiving address on each device when demonstrating multisig rather than trusting the address that Sparrow Wallet generated. It's vital not to rely on the address that a software wallet generates and to always verify the same address is showing on the hardware wallets.

Question for both Ben and Craig:
I've been scheming up a way to privately create a similar wallet as Casa uses in their 2/3 and 3/5, but with Sparrow and Blue Wallet. I'd appreciate your thoughts on how this may integrate. I notice in fact that you have even directly integrated the bluewallet vault coordination import/export feature, which is handy. Let's walk through the 2/3. I would create the first key on blue wallet/sparrow as a hot wallet and not back up the seed (seedless rotatable key for convenience). Either desktop or mobile offline signing would be possible with that key immediately. Then as normal import xpubs of the two hd keys. Export this coordinator setup to all wallets/bluewallet vault/sparrow. Backup those hd keys on steel. One key goes to deposit box as recovery key/inheritance key. One key goes in the safe.
Now the trick is, can you setup the transaction on Sparrow, then visit your recovery key and sign it using bluewallet on mobile (offline signing), and return to Sparrow to import that psbt from the remote coldcard? It's almost like transporting your signature, and then broadcasting later on another device.
This could then be ramped up to a 3 of 5, with multiple locations. The idea being that Sparrow is where you construct transactions, but bluewallet is taken to each location to collect signatures. Import all signatures from bluewallet to Sparrow, and broadcast.
    Is this possible/interoperable?
Love the software. It's very clean, and I like that all the information is available clearly.

If you switch to a fresh Coldcard, and set it up with the same seed, you will need that same txt file again I assume? You can export it again from Sparrow at any time of course. But in Sparrow, it's not enough to backup my seed, right? I assume I will also need to keep a backup of each wallet? Feels a bit intransparent compared to just putting one metal plate in a safe.

  • @RyanMacWilliams

Thank you for the excellent tutorial video. One thing I have not quite wrapped my head around is the creation of the hardware wallet and the seed phrase. So, if someone was to create a wallet using trezor suite, they would have to record a seed phrase. However, when I watch your video here I see that no seed phrase is associated with the cold wallet creation in sparrow. Do you only ever need one seed phrase for multiple wallets if you use the same trezor? Thank you for the great content and any time to answer this question.

    • @BTCSessions
      @BTCSessions  3 года назад +7

      Hey great question!
So for this video all these devices already have been set up with seed phrases. No need to create new ones if the device is already initialized and you just want to use it with different software - the backup remains the same. Most hardware devices are compatible with many different pieces of software.
Wallets like sparrow are simply another way to interact with the same Bitcoin network. Think of it like an internet browser. You can use Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer... But they all connect to the same internet 😁

Why do airgapped devices need this extra information on them for multisig? That's a part of multisig I don't understand yet. The ledger/bitbox only needs to get connected for example.

    • @BTCSessions
      @BTCSessions  Год назад

Good Q - there's a few things to understand here.
      1. A multisig takes bits of info from all signing devices and combines them to create what is effectively an entirely different wallet.
      2. When you use a wired device, it communicates with the computer in real time. This means it can see the multisig setup, and that its private key is a part of it, thus able to sign transactions.
      3. Air gapped devices have no way of knowing they're part of a multisig unless you tell them (by scanning a QR code or using an SD card). If they are unaware, you basically are saying "hey sign this transaction!" and the wallet is saying "I don't know what this is, because this address does not belong to the private key I hold".
      I hope this makes sense!

I exported xpub from coldcard, not seeing transactions or utxo (there’s only 1)… I can see the funds on mempool in my address, I can see them in green wallet (created wallet on jade, recovered on coldcard). One simple check you should do: there's a switch down in the bottom right to ensure you're connected to the bitcoin network. is that on? • @BTCSessions

So you can use the individual keys of a multisig to create any other single sig wallet you like. If someone gets that ONE key, they can't compromise the multisig wallet at all.
In order to actually access your multisig, a person would need your wallet configuration file (basically the map to your digital vault) and the minimum number of keys required to unlock it.

Given you're likely to use hardware wallets with it, you should be ok as long as you check your device as your "beacon of truth" when doing transactions. I been charged 0.0001895 BTC as fee for this Transaction , it's quite high, and that is the lowest options from that wallet
when I checked "view in explorer" I saw this
"This transaction could save 42% on fees by upgrading to native SegWit-Bech32 or 31% by upgrading to SegWit-P2SH"
May I ask how to lower the fees ?
    Thank you .

Guys, i really don't know which to go for, foundation passport or coldcard. One is relatively new but super handy whereas the latter one has a good reputation over the years.

"...nor will your words be good if you don't remember your password..." If you forget your password you should be able to recover your wallet/import into a new wallet with your words (seed phrase). So this does not make sense to me.

Unfortunately this wallet is way too complicated for beginners. Developpers need to work on simplicity otherwise there's no need for any more wallets out there.

This is 100% not a beginner wallet - it is made specifically for power users of Bitcoin.

There are many good Bitcoin wallets that focus on simplicity - Blue Wallet is a good example. Sparrow focuses on deep visibility into the Bitcoin protocol to serve the needs of those who need to see the details. Bitcoin has no undo function, and the best way to avoid a potentially life changing mistake is to understand what you are doing before you do it. Visibility leads to confidence leads to fewer mistakes.

@Yoriichi technically, Specter might be a little less secure because it’s browser based. Still better than most other options tho

I know, it's constant. I've blocked/reported so many of them already but it's impossible to keep up. If you see comments like that, it's super helpful if you can report them. Thanks for the heads up!

Informative YT video on a niche area, ads allow him to monetize. I’d assume you’ve watched shows with commercials and happily let those go by and you learned nothing from the show.
      Something to think about. Cheers!
