- A female bristlenose pleco enters a male's cave and starts eating the eggs that he's caring for. He tries to make her leave, but has a lot of trouble convincing her to get out. The male bristlenose shivers, hyperventilates, pokes her with his cheek spines, and hits her with his tail. Still, she refuses to leave and continues to eat the eggs. See the drama unfold in my bristlenose pleco breeding tank.

Am I the only one to find watching the undersides of the bristlenoses hilarious? Especially when the female was furiously munching away...
They are funny looking creatures. :-)
wow super camera work!
thanks!
These are legit documentary quality now. I also really appreciated your BN pleco breeding video.
Great Stuff!
Thanks for watching the videos and taking the time to leave such a nice a comment. I appreciate the love.
Thanks. That's amazing.
You're very welcome!
Much better when there's a narration... U can watch or listen even if you're doing something unlike the other videos that you have to read. I love the narration amazing!
Thank you so much for watching, and for listening :-D
👍👍 I have two ancistrus in my tank, they are breeding like crazy 😜
I have 8 and I haven't had one spawn.
@@twasbrillig33 still, their spawning is easy… I don’t do anything special, sometimes a good change of water is enough for them to reproduce 😉
MALE: You have done your task laying eggs for me, but now it's time for you to go , please
FEMALE: ... chewing her eggs...
MALE: get away from my eggs, I am a father , it's my duty to care of them!
FEMALE: why? I like my eggs....still chewing eggs...
MALE: get out from my cave!
FEMALE: ...showing spikes... No!
MALE: shut up ! and get out from my cave !!!! ..,.showing spikes... Now!!!!
She got the hint eventually.
Yes, this male seems to be quite polite.
Second option is that lady pleco doesn't want to eat eggs. She may try to clean them, however such behaviour is rare among females. Sometimes, really rare, they take care of abandoned eggs , cleaning them that way
This was fascinating to watch. As hard as the male tried to run her off, the eggs themselves seemed to also self protecting. I’m sure she got some, but it looked like hard work for small reward. Our young male appears to have taken up a more defensive position after clearing her away from his brood. Their hatching would be interesting to see. Thanks for this beautiful film Dave.🖤🇨🇦
You're very welcome, and thank you for your kind words.
@@TheDave333 Always deserved…you never disappoint .🖤🇨🇦
Wow! I watched your wonderful video of how you video this with this turtle type cave. I set up a aqurium similar but I offered another closed cave and he chose it instead. But, I did get a Very large spawn. I had to separate the male so the pair didn't spawn again. The little babies are adorable!! Just wish I had a way to sell them because they are very difficult to keep their aquarium clean as they are growing larger. I must say the Male is a very good daddy and took care of the babies well. They are all albino plecos. Absolutely amazing how these fish raise their own!! Blessings ❤
The zoomed in part is actually funny
It is pretty goofy. 😊
I love the narration Dave. Keep up the amazing work!
Thanks, will do!
Great video!
Thanks!
Good video once again, I found you when I was looking up guppies and breeding. Got more than I ask for but I got 3 thanks around so all worked out lol
*tanks..
Thanks for watching the video and taking the time to leave a comment. Best of luck with the breeding projects.
Awesome
I may have to give pleco breeding a try , great info .
You should! And thanks for watching.
I sometimes call plecos " freshwater nurse sharks".
Because of the nurse shark's barbels?
@@TheDave333 Not only that. but also the shape of their bodies.
I can see the similarities! Both sharks and plecos also have skin that's covered in tiny teeth. . .
Hello, Dave, how are they doing?
Hi Chi, I am doing well. Thanks for asking. I hope that everything is going good for you. I'm working on a betta video with lots of beautiful bettas in it. I'm hoping to put out two different videos this month.
Snickers for the beast.
My bristle nose female just Layed eggs 4 days ago and the male was doing his job in the cave “fanning them and guarding “ but I noticed yesterday a few of them were white maybe just under half of the bunch of eggs. I removed them from the cave and put them in a mesh net with a air stone under it . Hoping I get a few baby’s .
If the male is in the same tank, he might try to get into the net with the eggs. Hope it all works out. :-)
my pleco eggs just hatched last night great video keep it up!
Thanks, and best of luck with the baby plecos!
What did the American Eel say to the sea lampreys? So long suckers! Get it?
I get it. Did you know they run in opposite directions? One is anadromous, and the other is catadromous. . .
@@TheDave333 Oh yes!
nice Ancistrus pair becomes momy and daddy
I'm thinking that cave is too big if she can get inside with male and chomp away. I use the terracotta water spikes, it's easier for my male to defend. I have also removed the male and his clutch to a breeder box to avoid problems with corydoras wanting to sneak in and eat the eggs.
It's never happened before. . . It usually works out just fine.
thats cool, thanks for the vid, ive got the same exact pair/s in my tank
Thanks for watching the video. I especially love the albinos. They're very bizarre looking. . .
Excellent
Thank you so much 😀
❤

I wish bristlenose plecos were common in India There is a fish shop near our home and only white and black plecos were found so yeah
Yeah, but you have native fish that are also amazing!
Witch cave do you use and how do you stick it on the glass
Hello and thanks for watching the video. All of the details about the cave are in this video on the Bristlenose pleco. ruclips.net/video/sVxD17xj-4k/видео.html I've also added a link to the cave in the description section beneath this video.
@@TheDave333 can you send me the link because I can't seem to find it

And how did you stick it to the glass
I thought they were vegeterian 😥😥😥😥
They like a variety, but mostly vegetarian. :-)
more bn vids soon?
Maybe. I've got a bunch of albinos that I'd like to film. So many fish, so little time.
@@TheDave333 please do i really enjoy the bristlenose content
Are you the One… Mr Attenborough?
Unfortunately, Sir David Attenborough has passed away. He was a great man. I wish I had his accent! ❤
Wondering a bit why you just let this go on unless you didn't care about the fry? I felt kind of bad watching the male being stressed out
I care, but it wasn't a serious problem, and the encounter didn't last very long. A couple eggs may have been lost.
It's being documented obviously... Do you know that most humans interfere with nature has been destructive?
Thats life
bad pleco do not eat the eggs 👿
Cannibal pleco!!!
Pleco father must be protective suspecting everybody for wanting doing bad things to eggs and babies. However it's very rare that lady pleco eats eggs ! Only if she is starving ... More propable is that female on the video is trying to help babies to hatch. She may be inexperienced yet, she wants to help too early. Perhaps she suspects that male doesn't provide them right nursing? Who knows. Such behaviour is pretty rare too. Some females is capable to do it.
Yes, this is the first and only time that I've ever seen this behavior. I'm glad I was there to c
get it on video.
Awesome
thanks!
