Exactly, in artists mind it's an achievement regardless of popularity. Of course popularity is a nice byproduct but if artists focus too much on pleasing the audience they lose authenticity. This is why Prince will always be the ultimate artist for me

Criticizing one’s art, questioning it too much, outright stifles creativity all together. An artist can end up not creating anything at all because “nothing is ever good enough”, and “something just isn’t right”. I admire free flowing artist who allow their art to be ART, CREATION, because these people know how to get the hell out of their own way, and they don’t let anyone else stifle them with imposed ideas of what’s right and wrong in the ART they are expressing.

He was so articulate and wise. Brilliant musician and way ahead of his time. Saw him 4 times in concert. Nobody comes close.

NOBODY! I’ve seen him 5 times. The greatest show on earth and it takes you 3 days after a Prince concert to come back down to earth and stop grinning like a fool.
Well, it always took ME three days.
So true. It always WAS the greatest show on earth. For me, there's Prince up there and everybody else down there. What saddens me is that many people today don't know who he is. Part of it is that he passed too soon. The other part is that he held on so tight to the copyrights that his music isn't accessible. Don't know if it's his family or the record label. I got to talk to Prince for about 30 seconds in 1997 and I’ll never forget it. What an incredible human and musical genius

@@Modernaire He was performing in Las Vegas in 1997 at the MGM, I went to the concert with my then girlfriend. It was an amazing show I was blown away, and then after he ended up performing at a nightclub I can’t remember the name of it, but we ended up going to the nightclub and prince invited my girlfriend over the ropes in the VIP area. She then told him To please let me come over as well and at first he hesitated, but then he said come on in. He asked my name I told him and we talked about whatever I can’t even remember because I was starstruck and I don’t get starstruck, but it was Prince so I was a little nervous. Then basically my girlfriend could stay but they wouldn’t let me stay so we both left and then just watched the show. I know it’s not that exciting of a story but it was to me.
@@Drjackdempsey9644 No that’s very special because you got invited in you were told to come in and just hang out, that’s very exciting and special. The wanting to keep your girlfriend there is a little strange but he was also married at the time perhaps he saw some thing he could work with in terms of talent or something you never know principles like that. Are used to be a regular at glam slam West which was in downtown Los Angeles back in the mid 90s before he went on the tour you’re mentioning he close the club by that time in 1987 actually closed in 1996 possibly early 96. Anyways, I spotted him so many times he will speak to a lot of people lotta beautiful ladies and they were times when he was completely just chilling at the restaurant section, dancing sitting at a table it was normal but he was still prince he wasn’t like the life of the party but oh my God it was Prince! I have many many stories from that. Just some great experiences. It is glad you had a great time and you chatted with him. As an inside somebody close to him who used to work on his clothes towards the end of his career in life said that when he would let you in like that it was because he sent some thing just think about that. You know, RUclips is a treasure trove for gems like this…I have always loved Prince, since I was a Tweenager. But I never realized how incredibly wise he was. I knew he was smart, talented and deep, but some of these mid-career interviews, I had never seen. I had started listening to him, circa the 1999 album.

Back in 2016 I had just turned 50 years old on the 19th of April. Two days later the world lost one of the very most influential and for me a most iconic artists of all time. And I’m not ashamed to say I wept like a small child. I only knew Prince through his music. But I can say I genuinely miss the man. Rest in peace 🙏❤️
