I was up at the highest point in Alaska between the Beaufort (Arctic Sea)and Chukchi Sea, North of the Bering Strait. The ocean from Alaska to Russia is only 100-150ft deep. When the storms come through you can find all kinds of bones, and the occasional mammoth tusk. My colleague found a carved wood figure, that was ancient. I asked the natives if anyone ever went diving for anything there. And they said no, just the researchers studying climate change and marine life. My gut tells me there is so much prehistoric evidence just under the sand in shallow water.
Really enjoyed your video and sharing of your adventures, where I live the area was a coastal lowland, most of which was underwater. It finally began to fill in after the volcano chain, that makes up our coast range, collided with the lowlands forming what is now the Willamette Valley. East of the mountains is covered in thick layers of volcanic ash and fine cinders. We do have at least one area were you can go and collect mostly coprolites and plenty of agate and other rocks. In 1986, found a 2x2 inch flake of ivory and a nice 12.5 carat opal. As soon as the temp gets above 50F, going to try and get over to do a walk about to see what I can find on the surface. Keep on hunting, but keep an eye open for them thar crocagators, hate to see one of you guys get munched. Cannot wait for your next video.
I love this kind of off the cuff archeology.. none of this tiny brush and rubber glove nonsense. If I could go back in time I would've been an archeologist. Love your vids gentlemen you've earned a subscriber today
@@xploration1437 and you need to seek mental health help if you have nothing better to do than attack me. So do yourself a favour and leave me the hell alone. You don’t know me so go and troll someone else!!!!!!
The swamp kids were out in force that day. It seems like it would be difficult to just scout an area if you find some good stuff, and not get hooked on doing a full thorough hunt. Especially knowing how fast some fossils can get scattered and destroyed by the water flow. Thanks for sharing your adventures!
Love the new intro! EDIT: Admittedly i did not watch the whole video before my initial comment. But now that I have: I love the whole new video format from the intro, to the pacing, the fun facts. But the thing i enjoyed the most by far was seeing Joe more happy. That really gave this video that extra shine, extra joy! Keep on digging science boys, looking forward to the next one.
Thank you! I got lucky with what I managed to record and I hope to make more videos following this format. And I couldn't agree more, Joe is actually on a river scouting right now and probably happy as can be!
I can’t see how you can go into the waters, knowing there are alligators lurking everywhere. I couldn’t concentrate on what I’m doing. Good luck to you both 👍👍
my ISP went out from 1:20pm yesterday until 20 mins ago, I had the first 8 mins of your video loaded so my only source of entertainment for over a day was the first 8 minutes of this video. I finally got to watch the end 8 minutes of it and it was worth the wait. I can literally word for word the first 8 minutes of this video now though lmao.
With your new intro, you've stepped up your game! A pleasure to watch you find amazing fossils and cameos by gaters. I'm sure they are not that much fun to see in the water!
About 12 years ago, I found a fossilized tooth in a river, in Ohio but it was too large and round to be a mammal that I know of, but not a horn for sure. I wish I still had that, because it was an incredible find, especially for a child.
Just stumbled on this fantastic channel, the same way our heroes stumbled upon the giant beaver tooth. Jewels in the dust !! So, are the finds in this area representative of 10-12K ya ? Maritime coastal ?
I understand there is a lot more then just to find these fossils like being on the road, the process, the excitement, being eager to explore and so on. It's all great and exciting if you do it for your collection but there is so much of them. So, what do you guys do with all of these finds? Collect them and pile them up in boxes at home or do you sell them? I mean, I love metal detecting. Finding stuff then going home and doing research on them. But that's it. And after a while they just pile up and I dont know what to do with all of this. Great video btw.
I am a retired person used to do scuba-diving but I am absolutely intrigued by your breathing apparatus can you please give me a little bit of an idea or what it is called and how much it cost I would be very interested
You would be able to hunt and also educate people. Would be able to afford to donate fossils to non profit exhibits and museums. They will legit put any trash on Netflix Im 100% sure if they gave you a Netflix show it would be a hit.
Damn! That's one hell of a scouting trip!!! Have you guys ever used small firecrackers thrown in the water to move Aligators out of the area? If it would even work?
I really like the new graphics on your video! I've mentioned before that a longer better edited video would be awesome for your channel. (This was a good length too.)You guys are amazing and I would love to see you get more funding from RUclips so that you don't have to sell as many fossils. I even love Grumpy Joe.😁
I’ve watched your channel off and on for a little bit and I have a question. The knowledge of the type of fossils you find is amazing take the bear fossil for example. Do you know all of the bones of that type of bear? Or is it that you find a certain type of fossil consistently that it is easily identified?
true....ive noticed everything is everywhere perfectly as it should be as according to what may be found ever so matter of factly...oh wow...just now...now just have a look at that...and this...ooh and right here we have a, and another, and then right there.......................
Joe still cracks me up... I probably won't murder you unless you find a brick red mastodon tooth... lol Great finds Jon, always fun to see your video's. How much do you think a fully rooted intact mastodon molar would sell for? Or a mammoth? Your backyard is much more fun than my backyard. One of these days when I make it to the Tampa area I want to meet you and Kat...
As a Kentucky resident that already loves metal detecting and magnet fishing, I believe I now need to get myself some river gear and get into fossil hunting after seeing the "Dig This" on Mastodon extinction.
In Fort Erie Ontario by Buffalo New York the entire shoreline is littered with ice age sea shell fossils from when the ocean was where the great lakes are today. Tonnes of marine fossils at the Great lakes!
what made me sub was the joke that both yall made at the end and he lowkey put out there he just might do it if u found another i took a second and laughed out loud made me click and and hit sub

Amazing location. I have been collecting on the Peace for 25 years and never found a spot like that. GREAT find!!

hello from Denmark 🌸🌱
This is seriously some of the coolest stuff ever. Would love to get out and do this sort of thing. Just moved to central Florida
Every fossil looked like a rock to me 😅. I recognize your knowledge 👏
When they're in the sediment for millions of years, they turn black pretty much lol
New intro is awesome. My favorite fossil related RUclips channel 🤘🏼
Wow! Some beauties on that hunt!🙌🏼
If you haven’t already done it, would be cool to see your top 10-20 favorite finds all cleaned up & together!
