I love Minako Yoshida. I've listened to City Pop for nearly 4 years. When I heard her voice I knew she was my favorite. I could hear some of her influences just by the way she sang. And I love her Monochrome album cover.
Way too many of the city pop artists seem to refuse to even speak about their past/current careers, even the superstars of City Pop. It's almost like they prefer that it never happened or existed. It's really nice to see Yoshida-San speak front and center about herself. Thank you so much, Alfa, for showing this. And to Yoshida-San, arigatougozaimasu!
I was "introduced" to Minako Yoshida by a Japanese woman I was dating at the time. I was already a fan of Japanese pop music and liked many of the Japanese artists but still, the first time I listened to Minako's Extreme Beauty CD I was completely blown away and instantly hooked!!!! She's got a rare soulful voice that I'd go as far as to say is on par with other female recording legends of our time such as Anita Baker, Chaka Khan, Stevie Nicks, Barbara Streisand, Diana Ross and Gladys Knight.
More please. Minako seems to have been promoted more in the US, as Sheena & The Rokkets were, rather than other Alfa acts that were pushed more in the UK in '81 - '83, for example Sandii & The Sunsetz. Despite that, I was aware of Minako's recordings due to her being mentioned in the press in the UK, particularly titles like Record Mirror and Sounds.
Uffff! Nice to see a fresh interview of Minako. I still hold hope of watching a live show of her and to hear a bit about her career start. Nice to see you guys in youtube officially promoting the artists works and experiences.
Discovered her at a soul food bar/restaurant in Chiba, Japan called The Apollo. The DJ played her song "Town" from the album Monsters In Town and I've been a fan ever since.
Because I fell in love with the CityPop music，I took a special trip to Tokyo last year and bought several beloved classic CityPop CDs. 吉田美奈子is one of the best CityPop musicians ever！！I hope Japanese CityPop music can be embraced by more young people and everlasting❤

Yoshida's one of the coolest musicians out there! The albums "Let's Do It" and "Light'n Up" are definitely ones I keep coming back to!
