Awesome attempt. :) I too have attempted this etude years ago, and it was a nightmare. Be proud of yourself for having played this, because damn, saying this piece isn't easy is an understatement.
people be complaining here but bro, i loved your playing, specially AND unironically, the sound of the piano too, thanks so much for this video, keep up with the good content.
Thanks!! I originally was going to give it 9.5 but I tried some of Alkan's harder etudes and decided this one wasn't quite there haha. Now those Liszt transcriptions are another story...
@@maarane Some of Alkan's work are very difficult, say Concerto for solo piano from etudes op.39, the Grand Sonata Op.33 ...etc... In my opinion, the most difficult works (technically) by Liszt are his transcriptions composed during 1830s, 1840s. You have made a great achievement for recording all Liszt's 12 Grand etudes!! Looking forward for your playing of Grand etude no.12!!
@@chowkammoonckm82 Yes! I tried the concerto and comme le vent, both I would rank above any of Liszt's etudes (probably 9.5 each). However the Liszt Beethoven symphony transcriptions are something else. The technique and brain power to bring out all the voices have to be astronomical, so the more difficult movements among them may be even harder than Alkan's etudes. One day may also I hope to record some of those. :o
@@maarane Look forward to your playing of Liszt/Beethoven symphonies (no.9 !!!!), Alkan's Concerto, comme le vent (love this work, very innovative!!).....
I really like the slower aproach in the beginning rather than playing in tempo at a fast speed, and i really loved the way you played the middle section from 3:35 to 4:07, this is prob my favorite piece of all time (alongside mazeppa or No.6/8 S.136) you are my favorite pianist 🤗🤗, btw will you ever try the S.136 etudes? Theyre the first version of these etudes and are much easier but some pieces sound more better than the S.137/9 counterparts, take care :3
@@thenotsookayguy Ah I meant just this etude I'm not going to play this version. I actually like some sections from S137 in the other etudes and they're generally more manageable.
@@maarane I think one time for a Cadenza or coda I wrote a a hand span of 16 and forgot to put an arpeggio symbol and now ppl complain because there is already another melody playing in lh and they say you need 3 hands to play it
Haven't tried it! But I heard that the written tempo is obscene and unplayable, similar to how Alkan's written tempi are ridiculous. So maybe it might be harder if you consider the written tempo.
@@maarane wow, I'm impressed, are you amateur or are you studying the piano in order to become pianist ? Or are you already a pianist ? And would it be wrong to assume that you are french ? (Based on the name of your channel)

I'm sure would sound even more amazing in a better piano :/ I don't know if it's out of tune or the piano is just old, but either way, great job! This etudes are such a pain
Yeah it's the same piano I played when I first started, not the best but I'm somewhat attached to it (also can't afford a grand or anything). I try to make do haha

This is more difficult than the feux follets? The follets is often lauded as the hardest original Liszt piece.
The performer definitely believes so.
