This was a good one - I fish a lot of shallow ponds & lakes in Colorado, and everything people are dropping in here is consistent with what I've seen as well. The juveniles here develop this vibrant tail that I think resembles a green pumpkin with a subtle chartreuse tip (not like that super-heavy chart of the pre-tipped senkos for example). Second, I have always approached fishing a green pumpkin senko around beds as a straight bluegill-imitating presentation, 1000%.

The fact the wheeler of all people deny that bluegills have chartreuse tails blows my mind. I target gills all summer and they 100% have chartreuse tails as juveniles . A senko style bait around a bluegill bed is deadly, either way you fish it. As far as the creature bait goes, flipping a creature bait is so deadly. I should have won a tournament on Logan Martin last weekend flippin a strike king rodent. I lost 3 fish over 5lbs a piece flippin because I was using straight flouro in stead of braid. Also, it’s a shame that the bandito bug wasn’t mentioned in this video. That bait is legit. Just because they don’t sponsor y’all anymore shouldn’t take him out of the running. Missle baits d bomb is also legit. Glad y’all gave him some love!

I am from Texas and yes the bluegill have chartreuse tails….I have seen maybe a handful with full chartreuse tails but for the most part it is a transition to chartreuse that starts about halfway back on the tail and gets brightest at the tip of the tail. A lot of the other species of sunfish down here also have a lot of chartreuse. I would also say to Jacob’s point I have seen blue tails as well and there are times when a watermelon fluke with a blue tail outshines watermelon with chartreuse

"Imitate" is more of an action to me personally. When the one guy said "yes it can, Imitate, as a wacky, I take that as the action it can make as well. It's more of a round moving object because its pulling from the center and bending it as its jerked, so yes, then would be color into play. I've never seen a bluegill with a chartreuse tail, but when I search Google, I see some yellow but not chartreuse, specifically. They're just vague questions, really, so everything can apply.
P.s. Don't tell me you can call a senko a bluegill but you can't call that "creature" bait a craw. That's where I'll draw the line... 😆 The profile is identical to a craw it just has different detail in the mold. That I would say a bass wouldn't care about.

Yes. If bass are keyed in on blue gill they will hit any watermelon candy red profile with its tail or tip dipped in chartreuse dye! Because a brim has a chartreuse appearance on the tip of its tail! I think the ones that have that appearance is actually called pumpkinseed perch?
Put you a watermelon candy red baby brushhog with the tail dipped in chartreuse spike-it around brim beds and you will 100% catch bass of any size!!!

    Is a bluegill's tail chartreuse?
I believe it depends on the water clarity, environment and part of the country. I have seen what you are referring to as chartreuse, but I would call it yellow. Its definitely more prevalent in younger bluegill, when they get bigger and start to show their spawning colors, more blues, oranges and purples show up. Be careful you aren't confusing a bluegill with other sunfish, for example a Green Sunfish literally has bright yellow and orange tips on their tails.
There is something to be said about how different sunfish look in the water vs out of the water. They do a great job blending in from above, and using the natural dark hue of the water color and bottom to camouflage themselves. If you catch one, especially a pumpkinseed or longear sunfish, you'll be surprised at how bright their colors are.
There is a color called sun gill or summer gill some companies have that might be worth checking out.
