Synopsis :- A young English man is convicted of the murder of one Captain Hamilton of the Royal Air Force and sentenced to hang, His sister and her fiancé, convinced of his innocence, ask visiting detective Charlie Chan to investigate and find the real murderer. In order to solve the mystery, Chan must visit a lavish English country manor house, where the suspects vary from the housekeeper to a lawyer. Events soon indicate that the murderer is still actively trying to avoid capture, but Charlie Chan must set a trap to reveal the criminal's identity. He turns out to be Paul Frank, a spy masquerading under the name Geoffrey Richmond, who had murdered Captain Hamilton to steal plans of a military invention Hamilton had made.

Did they really think they needed to use a made-up county for the location of the estate? If they set a picture in the USA, would they place it in a made-up state? "The murder was committed on a ranch in Utaconsin". Or were the writers so ignorant of British geography that they thought Retfordshire was a real county? Also if someone claimed to be a Captain in the Royal Air Force, they would clearly be lying, as Captain was not a rank in the RAF (although I suppose it would have been in the initial days of the Royal Flying Corps, when it was still part of the Army - but certainly not in 1934). Nor was Major an RAF rank, although I suppose he could have served in the RFC during the Great War. I guess this movie was made in the USA, by folks who didn't actually know much about Britain (and couldn't be bothered to do much research). Maybe I'll watch Charlie Chan In Paris next, and see if that actually gets anything about France right. Not that this sort of thing stops me enjoying the movie - it's like listening to an elderly uncle telling a story, where you know that he's actually mangling most of the facts, but you still want to hear what he says happened next.

Great episode, one of the best, utterly charming Mr. Chan, and an eloquent weaving of events in this murder-mystery, solved in 3 days.
This is a great Chan movie! I do love Oland as Chan. Too bad he died young. I thank this channel for uploading.
Hi Chans character fasinates me scuse spelling shame ee died young cas Dorset
I love him too. Rip Odell Peace ✌️
He died at 58, so although that's younger than I'd prefer, it's not like he died before 35.
I love Charlie Chan movies.
I had a crush on # 2 Son!
The role of "Neil Howard" was played by 26-year-old Academy Award Winner Ray Milland (billed here as Raymond Milland.) This was ten years before his Oscar-winning performance in "Lost Weekend."
Alan Mowbray was skinnier ...but he caught up.
looks older
I watch these movies or listen to them since 2017 fighting cancer only have 3 on DVD but found all these on ytube love them
A very enjoyable movie ! Terrific acting, script- plot twists. Thank you for your work and RIP to the fine members of the cast !
Aren''t most of them still alive.?
@@robertwalker5521They'd all be well over 100 years old, so unfortunately no. How lovely that they can be remembered forever via film.🙂
@@robertwalker5521 All of them are "alive", but on film.
Good movie, thanks for posting. The actress Drue Leyton went on to be bravely active in the French Résistance, helping to hide downed American aviators.
Thanks for comment, roused my curiosity about this extraordinary woman. U r right
Wow! What a remarkable woman.
thanks for this tidbit, good to know.
Thank you for telling us this bit of information regarding Drue Leyton.
so many women involved in the resistance in so many ways. some as only a woman can. such bravery. there were three people even in Germany itself, one was a young woman. they were caught and hanged. i salute them all.
A superb job of cleaning up these old movies, the video quality is excellent.
these B&W Classic FILMS!
most excellent movie of great detective Charlie Chan. brings back happy memories of watching same with my mother many decades ago. thank you so much for showing this ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Oh yes... that famous expression of Mr. Chan... "Thank you... so much" ha!
Glad you enjoyed it
I believe this is my favorite Chan movie. The actress brought me to tears every time she spoke of her brother. Too bad we don't have Charlie Chan in every police station today. I've watched this many times over the years, but today, with the way things are, it just pulled at my heart!
Agree, but almost to the point of being annoying, almost!
Me too
Drue Leyton and Xually all................
No police detective, private or governmental, are that smart or even work the way movie detectives do!
I watch this movie at least 7 times a day. I love chan and number 2 son jimmy. I know number 1 son played with this chan .i like the other charlie to...i just like Charlie Chan period...
A good movie definitely. The Chan movies are elegantly scripted and presented.
Good heavens that was a wonderful movie! The verdict of what makes a great mystery is when you sit on the edge of your seat even though you know the good guys will win.
Wonderful memories 💓💓 wonderful times. Thanks too all.from all over the world 🌍😄🌍❤️🌍❤️🌍❤️🌍❤️
Excellent movie. When I see Alan
Mowbray in the cast I know he is the guilty one. He always plays the villain.
I still enjoy the movie.
Sometimes he's a comic relief! lol
But, not in "My Man Godfrey"
Spolier
Thank you love Charlie Chan ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I thank you for posting these Warner Oland Charlie Chan films, but none I have seen, have the correct 4:3 aspect ratio. Any way to fix this?
Complete excellent film with original exit music
oh wait is this the movie they were talking about in "Gosford Park" lol
I love warner oland as charlie chan.
The most hilarious overacting! Silly fun! Ray Milland was so young!
Charlie takes a lot of crap from just about everybody & still is calm, cool, & collected. Great show but in the wrong format.
👍🏼👍🏼 excellent movie, Charlie Chan. You’re the best what an entertainer so smooth.,, it was nice to see him without any of his son number one or two or three ha ha, ha ha ha ha finally he works alone… thank you for sharing and uploading this movie for us all SeplFilmDhamaka

Somebody commented how with these Charlie Chan movies the character of a competent police detective and crime fighter did a lot to improve the image of the Chinese in the eyes of the American moviegoing public.
But there is more to it. The year the movie came out it was still when the We-don't-want-no-Chinamen-here law aka the Chinese Exclusion Act was still in force in the US.'
As a result, one can only imagine the problems a man like Charlie Chan might have had returning to the US from his numerous travels abroad, even with an unassailable American passport in hand.
He was living in Hawaii...and it was not a U.S. State. Your desperate attempts to make chili out of pea soup is.....funny.

"Business of chasing fox, very interesting" 😹😹😹 oh Chan is a quiet riot 😹😹, great flick, and the very dramatic maid, I bet they had to do her scenes a few times, I'm sure the cast was busting Out laughing 🙃👌👌👌🐈⬛
To think how the reality of living through this horror is unimaginable!
you are a very caring person.🌷 very unfortunately, there are people who have had a grueling time and were put to death. also, quite a few innocent people have and are serving time. the law is far from perfect. and poor people usually get poor attorneys. not like the well-to-do, who can afford very good attorneys!! just look at OJ 🤕 (even writing his name makes me sick!!). to end on a brighter note, i wish you a great week! :) 😋🌷🌱

It was a big dead fox..
Always loved the Chan movies, but I have to admit, my biggest smile came when they brought the fox hunt to a screeching halt.
Well said!
Chan is the man. D. Carter, Elizabeth.
Poor Fox. A nice looking, young Ray Millard to be seen and another very satifying Charlie Chan detective story. Thank you.
Damn. So I just started watching you when I noticed you talking about Goldrush🙁 I thought he was legit. My son died(fentanyl poisoning)just turned 19💔and of course I started listening.

how despicable. I guess I forget. Sad😪
I loved this movie! Thank you so much.
Love all these Charlie Chan movies with both actors
Ok, so who was a better Chan, Warner Oland or Sydney Toler? I pick Orland by the slightest margin.
They were better in their own way no need to compare and tear both down.
Love Charlie Chan
thank you
👍🏼👍🏼 Very very well done. This was super good. I just loved it right to the end Charlie Chan. You are the best.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐❣🇨🇦
Another case closed…:)
they just dont make films like this anymore. :-(
I grew up 60's with Sidney Toler and have recently discovered Oland movies, this is one of my favorites.

Such a great movie! Hollywood should emulate these genius plot twists and techniques. Very enjoyable!
Unfortunately Hollywood is currently controlled by lack of genius.
Too bad it's uploaded in totally the wrong aspect ratio. I found it unwatchable after 2min. It's a shame
You should be able to change aspect.
Drue Leyton was a great human being. Read about her on her Wikipedia entry

What Charlie Chan do you like
@@billquinnett ...which wun yuu rike?
Warner Oland did not die terribly "young". He played Al Jolson's Rabbi father in the 1927 film "The Jazz Singer". The first "talking" movie. The web indicates he was about 59 at his death.
When Oland died, it gave Sidney Toler a chance to take over the role. He also did a remarkable job.
I discovered that both actors did so well, that unless you are specifically looking, you never really notice the difference.
Did you ever see J. Carrol Naish play Chan? In the old 1950's half-hour B&W TV series "The New Adventures of Charlie Chan". Naish is a great, and versatile "character" actor. Usually playing "dark" roles. Perfect for the mysterious Chan. Actually Naish played a minor role in a full length Chan movie: "Charlie Chan at The Circus". Naish did a sensational job as Italian police chief, in the Peter Lorre film "Beast With 5 Fingers".
These jews always change their last names to blend in.
@@rabbiezekielgoldberg2497 The trouble is when they can't curb their stereotypical behavior patterns. Such as the Hollywood studio bosses being absolutely stinking rotten back-stabbing and greedy.
As for name change ... It is often of great advantage to the viewing audience as well.
EX: So, who's this Frances Ethel Gumm that everybody keeps talkin' about? MGM head, Louis B. Mayer told her mother: If you let me change her name, I'll make her a big star. Indeed. She became THE biggest star at Metro, and America's most beloved actress. You know her as Judy Garland. The name being suggested by vaudeville performer, Georgie Jessel. When he remarked: "Well, she's as pretty as a Whole Garland of roses !"
EX: Or consider the real name: Marion Michael Morrison. What kind of a sissified name is that, for Big John Wayne ?!?!
EX: Who ever heard of the un-American, ethnic European name Asa Yoleson? But, he became the greatest entertainer of All Time, as Al Jolson.
Or, Eric Weiss as Harry Houdini. Bernard Schwartz as Tony Curtis. Eugene Orowitz as the greatest TV star of All Time ... Michael Landon.
59 is not old. I'm 74, a long way from that. I love the Chan movies and have enjoyed them for years. I love both actors. But, never saw Naish.
@@dianapearson1771 You can see a dozen or more episodes of Naish, as Chan, on the web. They are all half-hour programs, in B&W. Look them up, under the title "The New Adventures of Charlie Chan". The story lines and acting are surprisingly good for that early era of TV.

Instantly recognized ray milland by his distinct voice. Wonder when he dropped the Raymond for Ray...
I notice these Charlie Chan movies make it hard to determine suspects as every character acts suspicious. Very well done film. I went back & forth trying to deduce and then thought the drunk guy would be the killer but no, he just drunk and silly.....now I wonder if the English still go on their Fox hunts? Looks like fun.
US dudes hunt too. Hypocrites!
The thing to keep in mind about this old British murder mysteries is that Britain did not abolish the death penalty until 1965.
So every villain who had their misdeeds uncovered by Charlie Chan, Hercule Poirot, or Miss Marple, inevitably ended up on the gallows.
wow, it is a young Ray Milland, credited as Raymond Milland. I recognized his voice.....
Actually, if you hold the gun upside down you can shoot center of forehead...
Needs more explaining.
Awesome.
Indeed my good friend and fellow Christian was right about W Oland!
huh?
Excellent movie!!!
the style reflects how little time had passed since the silent films
I recognized Ray Milland right away and the guilty person was someone I've seen much later in various movies.
Mr. Chan fan here! I enjoy crime solving old movies such as Mr. Chan & Sherlock 🕵️ Holmes! Mr. Chan reminds me of Colombo (Peter Folk) with his non pretentious demeanor.
Its amazing to think that it was an era that digital wasn't a thing, that people would have to go to a cinema to watch entertainment
Did they take their phones with them?
U still can.....go watch entertainment, that is.
Great acting and story line. Always love watching Charlie Chan videos.
Thank you for sharing

2:21 -- Ray Milland
The murder was committed three months ago and they're ready to hang the guy? That's super quick.
Yes true and I agree.
In the US, they stall for 30 years, on average. One man was executed after 40 years, aged 80.😂😂😂
Great movie..... These people are way too eccentric and emotional. Love Charlie Chan.
I like the Actor Ray Milland in this movie!
Love this movie. I think the actor playing the condemned brother was in "The Mummy" with Boris Karloff. He went mad when the mummy revived.
If you are an old movie buff, you will recognize the resl murderer as character actor Alan Mowbray, who played in hundreds of movies during that period
And of course , Ray Milland, who went on to be one of Hollywood's star leading
men.
Best ever!!😊
