as pretty as the asian rh dolls are, it is annoying when doll companies can't seem to make asian dolls without including stereotyped traditional/cultural outfits or themes. i think it would be better if they included fashion trends in those countries, like any styles within harajuku fashion would be so cute!!
There's a few other Asian characters that don't wear traditional clothing, Karma from Series 2, Daphne & Emi from Series 3, The Kpop group from Rainbowvision, and Kim from the new series. But I see what you're saying. Not arguing at all, I just thought you might be interested in these girls

@@cloudypastel4089 I feel like that could be a cool premise for a whole line of dolls. Each doll could represent a different j fashion style. There could be a lolita doll, a gyaru doll, a fairy kei doll, etc. They could even do fashion/outfit packs for substyles, like sweet lolita or hime gyaru.

I'm with you on whenever RH tries to do 'alternative' styles they miss (including but not limited to goth, punk, and japanese street fashion). They just seem kind of like trendy top 40 takes on the subgenres, in an appropriative kind of way - as in, by people who did little no research on the alternative fashion they're attempting to go for except maybe some crap article about how some mainstream celebrity is dressing, in heavy quotations, goth today. It doesn't feel like it is respectful or cares about any history around any of it - and there are so few good fashion dolls that do so we're all kind of starved for some authenticity.
I feel like LOL OMG is the closest line giving us consistently more accurate alt styles. Even when one part of it is a miss, like most often the makeup or coloration, the overall look is so easily tweakable to be what it's supposed to be that I don't mind, I'm just glad they exist. Still wish they were on better base dolls though... The fact that not a single line has gotten decora, lolita, or even old school goth right (despite clearly referencing those styles) just makes me sad.
@@psychotophatcat Totally, I do like that LOL OMG has a more diverse array of style references (although RH has gotten better) in general, and a lot of the dolls look very distinct. Would love a lolita OMG! Or gyaru or mori. I am sure a lot of Japanese dolls do this, but Pullips have a pretty good selection of different j-fashion styles through the years - I kind of consider them 'fashion dolls' at least more so than BJDs, except the price points are still high.

True, like how Lila had Japanese, Korean and Chinese inspiration, instead of actually following a Japanese fashion subculture. Shadow High could have done more. But there are a lot of pieces I can put together, plus my own sewing, to make a more truly alternative fashion look. The base dolls can be really good. I see a ton of goth restyles on RH dolls. This is obviously something a lot if people want from their dolls.
Bratz always did alt styles amazingly. Rock Angelz, Midnight Dance, Pretty N Punk, Girlz Really Rock, and more are great examples of representation imo
And obviously Monster High g1 was very alt style inspired too!
While I completely understand why some people don’t like Lyric, when I actually unboxed her, she ended up quickly becoming one of my favorites. I’m also biased because I ended up meeting her VA who was so sweet and signed her doll stand. I was also the one to show her the doll in person and it was just such a magical moment.

I think people hate for her make them forget how great her outfit pieces are. I refuse to beileve all her outfit pieces suck. She has some great pieces despite her base doll not being the best.
Her outfits are fine it's her makeup paired with the old face mold she was given that makes her look scary to me
Lyric is pretty but as a stand-alone doll I wouldn’t get her… I’d only get her because I think she’s a great compliment to Carmen and Vanessa. That said I think we all have a doll that we don’t understand the hate for. I don’t understand the hate for Gabriella… I think she’s beautiful.
I cannot believe how many of these dolls MGA has churned out. So glad I'm not a completionist. I'm at 12 and it's like, enough.
I only got three. Two junior highs because they were 70%off and Deliah. I want to get more but I'm going to wait until they get very cheap.

@@iamsoverybored878 Yeah that is such a nice perk of collecting RH dolls right now, they are pretty much all still available at retail. You don't really have to worry about your favorite doll going for $500+ on Ebay.
The blue, (Coco I think her name was) sporty girl, has always reminded me of Sonic lmao. Like if you gave her a couple of gold rings and some little sonic ears, that would be so cute!

Shadow high was essentially the reason why I got into the the doll line. I love the monotone colors and greyscale colors and have Shanelle, Nicole, and Heather so far, and bought Natasha for my grandma (she also likes dolls). I just had never seen a doll line where I liked the face and body mold a lot and the color palette as much as I do for Shadow High. I'm not a huge fan of the rainbow high dolls because they seem like mass produced one skin colored dolls with just different main to me, but now some are growing on me after buying from the SH and Costume ball line!
I got Nicole and Shanelle from that series and they will probably be the only RH dolls I purchase. They are so gorgeous! I was particularly excited about Shanelle, cuz true black skin dolls are so rarely done well (or even offered) at the play line level. I got Wydowna Spider and Catty Noir from MF for the same reason.
I could listen to you talk like this for HOURS. I'm not even a doll fan and yet your videos interest me so much and learning about all the latest doll news is so fun on your channel. The way you talk is just so comfy and friendly, I feel like I'm a part of a conversation instead of being talked to

It’s funny how a lot of fans agree how poorly the RH series one’s outfits have aged, and how dated they are. Even though most of Rainbow High’s fashions are very detailed and big brand designer inspired, fans have also pointed out that they’re not really on trend or in style in terms of current fashion(due to the Y2K trends going on). The outfits are more based on late 2010s fashion, which is not really popular right now. I’m curious, if you want the line to go more in terms of current fashion?

I love how individual these lists are. Neon Shadows and the band girls are my top tier favorites, but even though they're not my aesthetic I can't deny the royal 3 are doll masterpieces! I don't even touch mine outside of unboxing, I don't want to ruin them!

P.S. I remember when collectors were miffed over the shimmer skin. I’ve never done it, but many ppl were using acetone to make the skin matte! Usually acetone can be used to remove paint, but apparently it removes shimmering skin as well. In case you wanted to try it on original Bella 🎀
I agree with most you said but Heather Grayson deserved more. Her HAIR. Her JACKET. Her personality. Her, the Storm twins, and Uma have the cutest aesthetic to me personally. Also, I too have always thought the Storm twins names should have been swapped, lol.

I recently just bought my first rainbow high dolls when i went to visit america. Ive never been interested in collecting dolls but when i saw meline. oh. my god! i didnt even hesitate to get her...i had no idea there were eurovision themed dolls and i absolutley lost it! U mention she is texan but in my heart she is a european star! I then got aysha shortly after... for same reasons... she is so eurovision essance, both of them! i think there is a pink or rose gold one that is also apart of the trio, but she is not eurovision essance... so she shall not be in my house! love ur videos btw, u are part to thank for for my rainbow high dolls purchase in wallmart!

RH basically did a "Eurovision inspired event" called Rainbowvision. Schools compete each year for the first place, from all around the world. The series just wrapped up the arch, which was a very, very long-winded one. Felt like it could've been a shorter thing ngl. Totally agree with you on the glam Eurovision vibes for Rainbow Divas.

I'm an Anne Boleyn stan through and through, but I have to say Anna of Cleve's tour actress KILLED the performance. Everyone did an amazing job though, I wish I could have had at least 6 more encores

Im someone who does have a big interest in alt culture-i honestly think neon shadows did a decent job at trying to represent punk subculture-they remind me abit of my boyfriend who is punk himself
And yeah people are right punk can include furcoats and sequence, its what i appricate about monster high as it didnt make all of its characters look the same fashion wise-you got ghouls like ghoulia whos more scene and draclaura whos more lolita its pretty nice way to show how diverse alt fashion is

It strongly bothers me that every single shade of Lavender is different on the Costume Ball Violet, not a single piece actually matches which is the ultimate mistake on a monochrome doll.
Cheer Ruby is definitely my favorite cheer doll, possibly my favorite Ruby doll overall which is wild because I really did not care for the cheer line.
I've been wanting to swap Daria's eye chips with Sabrina's- I think the green would look sooo much better.
I am also a Lyric hater, but as a Sailor Moon stan I would take a bullet for Luna.

Though I am not an RH collector, I have been heavily tempted by: Winter Break Jade, slumber party and costume ball Robin, Brianna, and costume ball Bella. Mwah. Perfection. I love them, but I've made an oath to not crack and get them. Since I typically don't like RH I fear I'll fall out of love with them.
I rarely ever comment but I'm glad we agree on Sabrina!! I plan on getting her and the storm twins this Christmas as a treat for myself and they'll be my first Rainbow High dolls. I think for Sabrina her concept is very well executed. She isn't too simple and doesn't have a hard to swallow look or color scheme. She's just easy on the eyes to look at!

I wish we got more dolls with wigs :( I love Avery. I think she's the only one who looks good with the series 1 shimmer, not to mention the only girl with an extra short hair option so far. I might just make her some wigs sometime.
I'm surprised that there's Margot de Pearla hate! Is it because she's not fully realized as a theme, since she's only partially iridescent and pearly? I got her at a steep discount and she's totally gorgeous even though her outfit is lame. Immediately put her in the lavender skirt from Avery's closet instead and washed her hair, now I can't get her cute bandana to stay on and that was the only clothing item I liked lol. Wouldn't have paid full price for any Pacific Coast doll though; I agree with you that I wish they had second casual outfits.

I think it'd be cool if you ranked all of the Barbie Movie dolls. Some are so cheap and badly made, while others are super well done quality wise and very pretty.

Awww, I love the video and feel more educated on all the RHD options. The only thing that bugged me was why all the hate on the boy dolls!!!??? You probably have stated this before but thanks! Thank you for your perspective and your passion in collecting! Thank you for representing boy doll collectors!!
It's just that most boy dolls, especially in in RH, aren't very well realized or have super boring outfits. RH has really weird head sculpts for all of their male characters that make them look several years younger than the girls. The SH boys are less weird due to having new face moulds, which is what DD mentions in the video. Male dolls have a lot of potential that most lines just don't explore very well. LOL OMG has done amazing designs for boys, but then they have almost the same heads as the girls and wind up looking weirdly young just like RH. And then there's Mattel, who can't seem to design for poor Ken beyond "slightly oversized shirt and board shorts." I have no idea why so many companies struggle with male dolls!

This was a fun watch! I actually don't have many Rainbow High dolls myself yet, only four. But it was fun seeing your take on them! Since I don't very actively collect them (yet), I didn't know about a good chunk of these, and now there's some that I want to buy in the future.

While I’m not the biggest boy doll fan, I think Finn and River outshine some of these lower tier girlies to be honest. Especially River with all the detail in his outfit overall.

I only have one rainbow high doll and it Delilah Fields. She's honestly one the best designs for a doll I've ever seen despite me not being a Rainbow High fan (I too find the fashion repetitive and overpriced).

For my Phaedra doll I made her some dark blue-ish purple shorts that match her hair and I use the cover up skirt she comes with as a top and it looks so cute!!! Her hair is so soft and beautiful!

You're probably the person who got me into Fashion Dolls this year :D, I was just curious, do you have any opinions on the Mermaze Mermaids dolls? I'm a bit obsessed with their designs, their tails are so unique, especially with its sculpting. Also, the clothes are really fun too. In the winter line they introduced tails with water+glitter inside them and it's really pretty. I'm really hoping they'll get more popular!

I made a tier list for myself and of my S+ tier I am realizing that my favorite dolls ever are Carmen and Tiara. Absolute perfection. And a VERY honorable mention to Emi, Harley, and Sabrina! (Those 5 were the entirety of my S+ tier)

Before watching this video I went and did the tierlist myself quick and just... did them based off vibes of the little icons in the tiermaker because I don't know/recognize most of the dolls or characters haha. I did put the 7 dolls I own in the top ranking because obviously I love them if I own them... but most of it was based on vibes. Some of the dolls have odd facial feature proportions and I don't vibe with them haha
Edit: I love s2 Amaya and she's actually the first doll i got and the reason I started paying attention to rainbow high at all. I love the blue with rainbow of her hair, even though, yeah, it is a little odd? The sequin outfit very much sucks, I put her in the cheer outfit and have not changed it since.. maybe I am just a big fan of rainbow hair... most of my s+ and s tier are rainbow/multicolor hair dolls lol.
The first time I saw Delilah on shelves I *immediately* snatched her up. I ended up going home with 2 dolls that day (Delilah and one of the mermaze dolls) when i only intended on buying one (oops lol)
One of these days I want to get the whole Neon Shadow lineup (I have Uma). I honestly really like them, especially compared to the original shadow high lineup. The slightly tinted skin and the neon hair is just cool to me, I dunno haha
Heather Grayson is my favorite Shadow High doll from the original line, although i agree her hair is... something. It's odd.
Holly and Laurel are very cute, I love that they're matching! They look nice side by side centered on my doll shelf
Uma is nice and I love her design, her color, all that. The biggest drawback of her doll is the studs on her jacket sleeves just... fall off at the slightest touch. i lost a decent amount just unboxing her.
I'm not as big a fan of white hair Amaya as I am s1 Amaya, but a good middle ground (imo) is actually jr high Amaya. I like her. and she looks tiny next to the rest of the dolls haha
Maybe it’s just because of the color scheme that Minnie Choi reminds me of Rosé from blackpink.
