Wanna know how I learned that rule? Playing a game, opponent pushes pawn, I calculate to play an intermezzo check and then capture en passant. Do so. En passant no go. What? Can no en passant anymore opportunity to use it missed. Now I'm losing and lost shortly after.
Wow, that tournament really brings back memories. When it was called the Hoogovens tournament (before Corus). I think it was 1989 when I was there (or 1990) with two friends and the father of one of them. I think 1990, as the father was friends with Victor Kortsjnoj and Anand was also playing. I was still very young there (the others were 4 and 6 years older). And it's fun to try to guess what the players would do and analyse the positions with the 4 of us. One being a 2300+ player. But you always get surprised, and they find things over the board that 4 people on the side can't figure out together. Really cool! Later on we saw Anand playing pinball in the local pub. He wasn't too keen on preparing too much it seemed and he was still playing really fast.. Fun... And cool to see Nepo, Ding and Ju in the tournament too!

That's why rich countries farm out manufacturing to poor countries so the pollution can happen away from home, in a race to the bottom, where the countries most lax in pollution control win the largest share of business. In a better world we'd have "worldwide Pigou taxes" so it would not matter where you manufacture, you'd still have to clean up your mess, but that's a topic far outside this forum.
