As this game is being compared the all the deduction party games but not like Battlestar, or anything like that, it is a bit one-sided. Maybe i am in the minority in this review, but i find it very intriguing, especially with it being a 2-3player game.
The modules definitely add complexity/more interesting elements and overall give the game a boost for sure. Wouldn't say they turn it into a totally different game or anything though.
Very nice review Blake! I'll be receiving my copy shortly. I'm excited and intrigued by a 2P social deduction game, even though the playtime is longer than I'd prefer.
It's way late, but for what it's worth, I have found this is absolutely not like that. My wife hates confrontational games, even just bog standard dueling games like Blue Moon, but we love Mantis Falls. It's hard enough as a cooperative game that all you need to do as a betrayer is play a little poorly, and in fact being hostile before you've got the winning betrayal in hand is usually a ticket to a quick failure. Likewise if you aren't a betrayer, you don't need to act in a hostile manner to win, you just need to hold back the tools to survive when death comes.
The camera angles used in this review were not as flattering to this game as they could have been. Some extended closeups of some of the individual cards would have been nice as well as a dummy turn to give viewers an example of how action cards are used and how event cards are processed. Also, nine is not the wound maximum for all players; only for those players with the Pugilist character card. I wish you good luck with your future submissions.
Very unique concept, I think I would agree with you, if I only have 2-3 players I am not sure this is the kind of game I would pull out especially at a 60-90minute play time. Always enjoy your reviews Blake! Keep up the good work.
Nice review, but the audio was really poor and the glare on the cards and angle was kinda hard to figure it out. Takes a lot of work to nail it so keep going.
Making a review without having an played the modules, which the gane itself recommends to introduce as soon as possible is certainly unprofessional and makes this a bad review.
@@thedicetower I was not speaking about the game being good or bad, I was criticizing that you made an incomplete review. Shame on you for not even reading the manual which clearly states that one of the modules is required for three persons to play, the circle should be added as soon you learn how to play, and the third is to make it more complex (roses). And I am not still referring to the quality of the game and its game play. Sad to see that Dice Tower is becoming more and more cocky over the time with their reviews. From a personal perspective the game is quite good, it is indeed a race to the end of the street which may or may not be cooperative. To create a hidden role game for two players is a great challenge as this category is mostly reserve to high player counts and Mantis Falls certainly creates something that not only does it work properly, it is quite exciting. The game is hard and this forces the players to work together to reach the end of the street; the plausibility of betrayal is where the tension lies. And for me, it works very well.
@@elbenchyour comment sold me the game, better than this 10 min "review" where cameras don't even show what the cards look like or do not show an example of a turn. Why is the camera filming a guy and half of the room, and I cannot see the cards properly?

In a three player game there can also be 0 assassins. Did you forget to add the module that's mandatory for 3-player sessions?
He barely bothered with the instructions at all then bashed the game because he didn't understand it. 🙄
You didn’t really speak to the modules. How are they changing the dynamics? Do they address concerns you have with the base game?

I see this on BGA and want to try it out so bad!
I was thinking the same while seeing the review. A long, 2 player traitor game sounds like the fastest way to win the "sleeping in the couch" raffle.

3 players and 60-90 minutes? That works for almost all Euros
Blake, your reviews are so good! Hire him as a full time reviewer, Dice Tower!
I enjoy your videos a lot. More, please.

Can you please make
Top 10 most innovative and unique game of 2021 as well as of all time please !!!

Nope. Nope. Nope. If you have to play modules for a game to be good, they shouldn't be modules.

@@thedicetowerwhat on earth is this logic. Says who? I don't really understand why someone would say such a thing.
Love a new Blake review! 🤙
