R.I.P.. Ronnie Hawkins. Thanks for posting this, Laszlo. What a great rockabilly concert. musicians and singers include: Ronnie, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Levon Helm, Robbie Robertson, Jeff Healey, & Lawrence Gowan.
I think his son, Robin Hawkins, was playing guitar -- the big, young man standing near Ronnie -- and his daughter, Leah, was likely one of the singers. @@leekosmin8788
To whoever put this up: God bless you. As a Canadian boy and a respectful fan of everyone on that Massey Hall stage and the amazing musical talent and legacy embodied there, this is a musical/cultural experience that, even though I experienced it well after the fact, has uplifted my soul. I feel blessed.
Ronnie and the band use to play at the Concord Tavern in the 60’s. They would come into our family restaurant for meals when they played there. Our place was 6 doors down from The Concord. Our family lived above the restaurant, as well.
As someone who was taught classical pianio, this man has all the free style I loved & took me a while to remember, classical music is beautiful, but is quite rigid for the player & removes the natural rhythm inside your soul, well it did mine. Thankfully got mine back by listening to the likes of The Killer, Little Richard etc etc
Nobody can play rock and roll boggie woogie honky tonks piano like Jerry Lee. Who would have ever thought that in 2020 Jerry Lee would be the last original rocker left.
How do we contact to add Jerry Lee Lewis to the curriculum! I cried when he died not only because we lost him but because so many people didn't know who he was!
If this don't move ya then nothin will! If your healthy haaaa!! Shake it baby shake it baby!! Our Canadian Jeff Healey I miss seeing him live in Vancouver BC Canada 🇨🇦🍁 God still hard to believe your gone 💔big time big big time! Woooowhooooo!!!! 🎸🎸🎹
My buds and I used to slip the door man the humongous sum of $20 to be snuck into the backs of the honky tonks on Toronto's Yonge Street strip (where we couldn't be seen) to hear the great Rompin' Ronnie. To me he was and remains the best live performer I have ever seen. Of course, you didn't bring your girlfriends with you, ... but that's another story 😉
Jeff was admired by millions, during the late seventies and eighties, but was, it seemed, left to die, by his entourage, once his popularity and contracts played out. they bought into the blind great musician, and when loyalties changed, as they do in rock 'n' roll, the followers just left him to die.
On the day I learn Ronnie Hawkins has left us. This amazing Rock and Roll video shows up. Remembering Ronnie, Jerry and Jeff. Carl Perkins and Levon Helm also "backed up". RIP in rock and roll heaven all of you. Only Gowan remains with us. ***My mistake and apologies to Jerry Lee and his many fans. Jerry is recovering from a stroke and very much alive.
He could but was never comfortable with it so he did not play it traditional. Jeff was a good guy, no different than you or I, I knew him, first meeting him though a friends at a show at Albert Hall in Toronto, he was a kid, 19 I think, he was a master killer player then. ,,As big of a star he became he still played local clubs and sat and had a beer with his pals on break. Not once in the twenty one years he had left here after I first met him did I ever see him play guitar traditional style...But you are correct, he was taught that way in blind school but never liked it or played public that way...
At Sam Spade yes Jeff can hold the guitar the traditional way but they actually make guitars to be laid on your lap and that's what he plays he is not playing a regular guitar, BC that is his preference
This is so good.
RIP Ronnie, Levon, Carl, Jerry Lee, Rick and Jeff.
Absolute legends.
Hard to believe they're all gone.
Imagine the rocken going on up stairs , you'd like to think that's what's going on .???
What's not like, how cool is is Killer, long live honest, real honest music that liberates my soul, this as good as going to church on Sunday.
Finally noticed Jerry Lee helped escort Jeff on stage for his hit songs. Jeff looking like he couldn't believe he was playing with Jerry Lee. Magic.
Grant i also noticed that and i think that was the best.
jeff was good enough to play with anyone, anytime, anywhere. just because he didn't the publicity jerry got didn't he wasn't just as good.
@Denis Lessard Jeff would have rocked ol Jezza out of the building, and oh nasty but wouldn't have known he'd gone .
Just found this video Jerry Lee Lewis and Jeff Healey together! Never knew that played together - what a find
R.I.P. Ronnie Hawkins! Thanks for coming to Canada and bringing all of your very talented friends here with you---Plus giving The Band their start!

R.I.P.. Ronnie Hawkins. Thanks for posting this, Laszlo. What a great rockabilly concert. musicians and singers include: Ronnie, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Levon Helm, Robbie Robertson, Jeff Healey, & Lawrence Gowan.
Couldn't see Robbie but noticed Rick Danko (next to woman singer) and Garth Hudson, playing 2 keyboards at the same time.
I think his son, Robin Hawkins, was playing guitar -- the big, young man standing near Ronnie -- and his daughter, Leah, was likely one of the singers. @@leekosmin8788

A lot of people don't realize but, Jerry lee Lewis is a dang good singer, as well as a piano player!!!
As someone who was taught classical pianio, this man has all the free style I loved & took me a while to remember, classical music is beautiful, but is quite rigid for the player & removes the natural rhythm inside your soul, well it did mine. Great gig by the way xx
Casual Carl Perkins in the background

Well it's 2022 and Jerry lee is the last one left of the original rock and roll player's of all time!!!

Without Ronnie Hawks’ tutelage, we would have never had “The Band.”
There was a lot of talent on the stage for Ronnie’s 60th.
