Also any parts of the plane that fallen during the crash could had landed on the houses as well did you see the person who was recording the garage door got damaged and they lived cross the street from the burning homes so what does that tell you?
The foundation savers are on the case. American firefighting has had too many layers of management and committees define the procedures, and "just put the wet stuff on the orange stuff" has gone out the window
Journey is correct; fires from jet fuel can’t be extinguished using water. In fact, adding water will make the situation much, much worse-if you’ve ever tried using water to put out a small grease fire you can probably imagine what would happen in the case of a much larger fire from a more volatile source. Airport fire engines don’t use water for this exact reason.
@@McKeelix This was not jet fuel. It was a small GA plane with a gas engine, most likely running standard av-gas (gasoline with lead added, because yup, they still do that for small planes).
Unfortunately, we did not see fire operations, we only see men taking out water hoses and watching, and they did not do any extinguishing operations, waiting for the fire to finish its currency by devouring houses. Thank you firefighters for watching
You can't use water on an aviation fuel fire - they had to wait for carbon dioxide (CO2), halotron, or FM-200 type(s) of extinguisher(s) to arrive via helicopter.
Why are they just all walking around? Where is the freaking H2O? 25 firefighters and all they are doing is laying out one hose! I’m mad watching this. What if it was their home !
@@rickchambers73but moving at a snail's pace? Come on. I mean this is right down the street from my house, is this what I should expect if my house catches on fire? Wait, it did when I was 15. And the firefighters took their sweet time on that one too
The fire is spreading fast because a Cessna 421 Golden Eagle has 206+ gallons of AvGas spreading thru these homes. Upon responding the fire commander didn't know he was dealing with aviation fuel. The water might have spread it. The incident commander finally accepts the suggestion of calling for an ARFF (Aircraft Rescue & Fire Fighting) truck from the airport at 8:29. The ARFF truck has the special foam they need to put out the AvGas. This video doesn't show the ARFF truck arrival or if it comes. Per the video the fire department gets the water on after two minutes and 31 seconds. Everybody is doing their job.
Thank you for the detailed explanation. You did a better job than the news team that posted this video. Well done. Edit: It was a maintenance flight; the plane had not been flown since last February.
For a fire like this they should have a ladder truck available ......This is why owning a townhome is dangerous. One neighbor whos a smoker likes candles or has an eleectrical issue and your home is gone too

I'm quite sure those in that plane that crashed met an awful death - may God hold them safe in his arms.......but this just all unfolded in this video as IF it was in slow motion or those responding were...what happened to make this response so slow????? Am I the only one who felt this watching this video????????
Something does seem strange about trying to get the water hooked up. Hard to hear about someone was home at the time of the crash, how awful to be in your own home where we all should be safe & to loose your life like this. I will trade you for your arm chair my firetruck, they have to establish that no one is in the building 1st, then get water and linens hooked up that can be difficult as trucks only carry a small amount the rest come from hydrants, safety as this was a plane carrying flammable liquid , were never ever bored, for the ignorant who arm chair comment we work harder, faster, longer, stronger than anyone to say otherwise is insulting
The ladder truck is right in front of the building. You can see it a number of times throughout the video. You also hear the audible warning as the jacks are being set early in the video

Three people are unaccounted for as of now. The two occupants of the plane, and one resident of the townhouse. The outlook doesn’t seem to be good, sadly.
Well, I got an update. All three people have apparently been located at the scene of the accident. All deceased. The man and woman on the plane radioed the ATC tower saying that they were having trouble and needed landing clearance asap, but they didn’t make it back in time.
The same thing can happen to me or to anyone, fire is very destructive and very dangerous. I feel for the mother and father and for their little children and the other family too, loosing their houses.
I can 100% guarantee you that if this was their house burning down to the ground and all of their possessions being destroyed that they wouldn't take 25 minutes to unload the water hose and get it filled with water to start putting out the fire. I remember I was with a firefighter for many years and even when he was 70 years old he moved about 17 million times faster than any of these people working for this fire department. I'm glad to hear that you like the neighborhood. Take care.
These crews did an excellent job in a tough situation. Arrived to find the rear of four townhomes heavily involved, did a hasty search of adjacent units as a water supply was established, and made entry into the primary with a quick attack line about two and a half minutes in. It would have been difficult enough if the aircraft had only involved one home, but four at once along with the entire gully behind on fire, plus the brush fire where the lines were hit. They managed to contain the fire to the four homes that were hit and knock it out relativly quickly. Well done!
Wow….it takes absolutely too long to get the water going that the fire spread easily to other parts of the townhomes. Also…this is the problem with townhomes and apartments….if this had been a single house…the fire wouldn’t have spread so easily to other people’s places because there would be space between each home….but because they are attached to each other….everyone ends up losing everything instead of just the one house. Those people in those other places probably thought their belongings would be spared since the firemen were there in time while it was still just the one area on fire….then it was allowed to spread and spread and spread while one hose was slowly being hooked up. We need to make every home a separate home with adequate space between each home to help slow the spread of fires.
They put firewalls between structures like this in my city. It is supposed to isolate the fire. This is really sad to watch the whole neighborhood going up. Hope everyone and pets made it to safety
You picked up on a very important stroke of luck. Unfortunately there are groups that intend to do us harm that know that. They are waiting for the right conditions to do massive damage and death. Way worse than the Lahaina fire damage. They put the houses so close you can pass the shampoo, use hardiboard (concrete siding) and hope this doesn’t happen
Word is spreading quickly and people from all over the country are tuning in to see the 'Keystone Firemen' in action. I'm on my 67th lap around the sun and I just hope I don't die of old age before these rookies get the fires out. Too much classroom training and not nearly enough experience.
I was going to comment on how slow they are compared to shows like "Chicago Fire", "Station 19" and "911: Lonestar". I know they're fiction, but damn people! Get the lead out!
OMG!!! They have to turn off gas lines first, and if you look you can see water coming out those windows. This is why houses shouldn’t be built so close together, especially with the cheap materials they use. But you guys should go help.
There need to be more safety rules for small planes. There have been too many deadly plane crashes where they take out people on the ground also. I remember one private plane Crash back east where a young mother, and her three year old little boy and brand new baby boy were killed in their home when a private small jet crashed into their home
Why weren't they putting water on the original burning structure instead of directing fire truck traffic, with no water at all until after two neighboring buildings caught fire and were also destroyed ???
Why are the firemen letting the fire spread to the surrounding homes? they have been there for 20 minutes or more without spraying any water, they are just letting it spread! WTF is wrong with these guys.
I know a german firefighter that was in america to work with the firebrigade for 3 month and he alrdy told me how unprofessional the work there was, Here we can see a prime example of that.
I want to defend the firefighters. This isn't a normal fire. Hundreds of gallons of fuel came from this plane. That's not an easy fire to put out. Fuel burns differently. My heart goes out to everyone.
What is it with that fire department. The whole block could burn down while they fiddle around with one hose. That reminds me of the time our wood pile caught on fire. It was Jan. with a foot of snow on the ground. A hot ember somehow was flipped into the center of several cords of wood. It was sitting under pine trees and the fire was burning from the inside of the pile. The fire department came and the main guy just stood there stroking his chin, thinking about how to get the water to it. Meanwhile I was pulling hunks of wood out of the fire and throwing it into the snow. My husband was shoveling snow onto it. He told us to stop. I got mad and gave him a piece of my mind for standing there and doing nothing.
@@virgilhilts3924 Not really. The guy in charge was a volunteer fireman who worked at Ford and my husband was his supervisor. He was being an A-hole and not the best employee. I was a friend of his wife so I knew him and he was not good with her either.
Unbelievable! It's like they're just standing there watching it burn down. These so-called firefighters are as Useless as a screen door in a submarine. They like a one legged man in paddle boat.
Large numbers of fire fighters seeming to be in no hurry, no sense of urgency and milling around while the fire spreads. What's up with these 'emergency first responders'?
Why are they so slow to get started?? Why are they taking so long to throwing water at it? And why are they not taking that white SUV that's in the left burning building's garage out before the fire reaches it and blows it up! They are just standing around and chatting, with zero sense of urgency. I work close to Fairview, but my house is about 10 miles away, I sure hope not all fire departments are this slow! This is a terrible response time!
Prayers for everyone involved and props to the firefighters and first responders who rarely get the credit they deserve. the airliner that crashed in E Portland years ago was a reminder of houses under airport fly zones. Newport has a lot of new planes coming in over the town and this is what we hope to avoid. So tragic and the families we need to send prayers.
Something is very wrong. I have never seen a group of firefighters work so slow. Only 1 active hose ? Absolutely pathetic. Maybe if those were THIER houses their asses would be moving. They must be union??🤔🙄😥
So sorry for the ppl who lost their lives and homes. I hope the homeowners have good insurance. One of my biggest fears, apart from dying, is my home burning down.
Looks like houses made from paper, cardboard and "was-wood".... not sturdy timber from years past. Residential construction is really getting cheaper and cheaper and less fire resistant.
The National Fire Protection Association' Life Safety Code and the International Code Council's Residential Building Code have required automatic residential fire sprinklers in multifamily dwellings, townhouses, and one- and two- family dwellings for over 20 years. Yet many state legislatures have repeatedly deleted these requirements form state and local codes. Why? Politics! They have succumbed to political pressure from special-interest groups and lobbyists representing residential developers and construction contractors. These special interests continually misrepresent facts and outright lie to legislators and voters. They greatly exaggerate the cost of installation of residential fire sprinkler systems when installed at the same time plumbing, heating, and HVAC systems are being installed in buildings under construction. They greatly exaggerate the possibility of "water damage" from one or two sprinklers flowing at maximum 25 gpm each - while ignoring the much greater fire damage in an unprotected building, AND the tremendous amount of water used by firefighters to extinguish a fire in an unprotected building (anywhere from 150 gpm to 1,000 gpm or more.) Instead of criticizing the firefighters in this video, call your state and local legislators and urge them to require automatic fire sprinklers in all residential new construction including townhouses and one-and-two family buildings.
Fire and rescue should have sent at least 6 engines at the onset of the call - they knew it was an airplane crash called in by the control tower after another pilot reported the crash into homes. They're places around our local, small airport I won't live at. Several of my past friends have had small plane crashes into or in front of their homes. It seems that crashes are most common upon takeoff and landing processes. Half of them due to non-instrument landing capabilities during the off hours of the tower. If you can't do it, go to the other local airports with 24/7 manned towers.
They had so much time and manpowers. They are moving without sense of urgency. Why is so casual chit chat going on. House on the left could been saved. House in the middle could only had small damage as well.
Are you there? It’s not a magic trick. You can’t wave a wand and have water on the fire. What about the firemen? Should they just run not knowing what they’re facing. What judge mental people!
@@joyceetter8643think referring to water flow on connecting homes that were not burning but they would be next. Could the one engine pull up some. Maybe the hygerins where to far space. They stated one quit. But I was wondering the same.
Excuse me, SIR. IF you pay attention, you'll hear the firemen INSIDE THE HOME communicating on the radio. The gray smoke is from water being sprayed on the flames on the second home. The first home which contains the plane, was probably not even able to be entered. Spraying water on a roof isn't going to do any good. They could have saved the houses next to the main house on fire. But they are not
That's what I was thinking too 🤔
the houses are right next to each other without space between them…of course the fire is going to spread easily to the next house…and if the wind is blowing it makes it harder! Also any parts of the plane that fallen during the crash could had landed on the houses as well did you see the person who was recording the garage door got damaged and they lived cross the street from the burning homes so what does that tell you?
I pray every one is ok
Why is it taking so long for water?…
They use to have foam sprayers by air for forest fires structures etc. Don't know if they still use such.
@@McKeelixdescription says small plane, Cessna. So not jet fuel?
@@McKeelix This was not jet fuel. It was a small GA plane with a gas engine, most likely running standard av-gas (gasoline with lead added, because yup, they still do that for small planes).

A planes fuel is sticky, burns for hours, and toxic, and this fire will burn a long time.
There are not any fire hydrants close by. The only water they have is in some of the fire trucks on the scene.

A brick house isn't surviving a direct hit from a Cessna either.
Well done!

What an absolute nightmare.
Can't say enough of the bravery of these fire-fighting and rescue crews. So grateful for their work.
That totally sucks.
The planes fly low over my apartment too.

Rookies run in circles.

When my neighbor's house was raging the pumper trucks were roaring water on it within a minute as they arrived.
Why did they not get the white car out of the garage in the house on the L?????

Cheaply built yet overpriced.
Airplane fuel has a bit to do with the heat and spread....
Makes zero difference when hit by a Cessna...ffs.
"If you can't do it, go to other local airports..."
Better yet, *_surrender your pilot's license._*
