  • This week, the hosts debate how religious voters will react to Donald Trump’s betrayal of anti-abortion positions, the evolution of Christianity as the domain of the right and whether religion is actually as powerful as it seems in modern U.S. politics.
    Plus, Ross finds aliens, again.

It's so odd that there seems to be no separation between church and state in the majority this conversation. Bizarre.

Very American, though. We’re not as good at that as we like to think.

This conversation is appalling. I live in a city where there's a prayer (invocation) before every city council meeting. There's a coffee shop/event space next to us which was underwritten both by selling off church-held real estate (off the tax rolls for 30 years) AND city development funds. Religious privilege is REAL and it's CORRUPT.
Shame on anyone who discusses civic (policy) issues by referencing religion. It is immaterial, impertinent, and presumptuous.
      The NYT is slipping precipitously.

Religion is losing pew sitters. Much like a cornered animal facing death, they will fight hardest now. Note the tsunami of proposed laws trying to mix religion into the legal system. Trying to legislate themselves into power because they know their base support is eroding.

I'm not sure why I'm being lectured about going to church by three usually rational people plus Ross Douthat. There doesn't seem to be any capacity to critically reflect on the distinction between being religious and showing up at a church, and even worse, the assertion that religion is somehow a force for good in the world goes unquestioned. This kind of lazy thinking seems well below the standards of the supposed "paper of record."

Did the whole podcast just forget that our country should have a wall between church and state? 😮

Really? Dissecting what trump said about abortion? How about repeating what trump said and then adding, "of course, he always lies." Please don't saddle us with this nonsense.

People shouldn’t have to run for healthcare. In emergency situations pregnant women can’t run & are at the mercy of these anti-abortion state theocrats who want to show their draconian powers off to their ugly base.

Why should people run anywhere for healthcare? Pregnant women with wanted pregnancies going wrong also can’t run when anti-abortion zealots in the government or hospitals deny them needed abortions, as we have seen many time in Texas.
Not sure why my other comment deleted. We’ll see if this stays.
