- Where is G5 Equestria? The magical land has vanished deep in the distant past, without a trace. What happened to the bustling pony world we knew, with kingdoms stretching across the globe and creatures of all kinds living in harmony? Is MLP G5 in the same universe as G4? The answers may lie in some overlooked and hidden details present in My Little Pony: a New Generation.

Sunny's map does actually line up with the G4 map; Maretime Bay is southeast of the Badlands, and Sunny travels north to Zephyr Heights. The compass rose is at a slightly different angle to the G4 map's orientation but it does point north (i.e. the right side of the book is north). There's also a second map in the room at the top of the lighthouse which gets reflected onto the mechanical crystal holder in a few shots, and it lines up with both of the other maps.
Not sure I follow what you're saying with the location of Maretime Bay. I just looked for the map in Sunny's lighthouse and I found it in a few frames such as at 1:18:22, but it seems to be always out of focus. Do you know of any moments it is clearly visible? From what I can make out, it doesn't appear to correspond to the other maps to me.

The geographics of Horseshoe Bay still exist, and straight across to the east is the same channel that divides Griffonstone from the dragon territory. Erosion and climate are probably the causes for the moderate distortion of the shape of the seashores, which is why the maps look a little different I bet. Not sure about where the sources the images stitched together came from but it looks legit.
Under this theory, Zephyr Heights is in the Badland mountains and Bridlewood is the Forbidden Jungle. Maretime Bay's geographical features used not to exist, but eventually a bay of some sorts formed there and then, the city. Wow!

I'm actually upset they didn't make more references to G4. Apart from the beggining scene and Twilight's cutie mark here and there it could be competely unrelated movie.
I understand that this is a new generation and has to be accessible to everyone, but I couldn't stop thinking how could this all happen. For example why there are only three cities, each for one pony kind? Was there some great war that wiped out most of the ponies? What are those crystals? Why did ponies stop being friends?
It's possible the world would be explained further in the show, but for now there is a lot of things unsaid.

Yeah, honestly it's not a very likely story. G5 is seeming more like an alternate universe for the moment, but I suppose trying to bridge the gap between these pony worlds is giving me a topic to make videos about at the least!
I heard a theory that what might have caused ponies to fight each other were none other than Tirek, Chrysalis and Cozy Glow, that somehow managed to escape the spell that turned them into stone and started throwing ponies against each other. It is possible since spreading distrust was already part of their plan in the last season 9 episodes. We know that the spell that turned them into stone isn't unbreakable, since Discord broke free of it in season 2(or 3, don't remember exactly).
There are a few unanswered questions about this theory though. Why didn't the villain trio take over Equestria after succeeding in breaking ponies' friendship? And how did their escape go unnoticed? But even still, i think it is a possible explanation as to why earth ponies, pegasi and unicorns started hating each other.
G5 could also very well be set in a parallel universe. To me something that hints towards that is the fact that in G4 when ponies started hating each other the windigos appeared, but there is no trace of the existence of windigos in the G5 movie.
No magic= no protective barier for Crystal Empire
That means that it is burried under ice and snow for quite a while now :3
Well, technically the only magic that was turned off in the movie was Pony magic, and the Crystal Empire is protected by the Crystal Heart, which presumably isn’t reliant on that silly three-part gemstone…

it also seems that the pegasi have the only real kingdom left, since they have actuall royalty. Meanwhile Maretime Bay is being ruled by a corporation, and god knows who rules the unicorns in Bridelwood. So maybe cities controlled by unicorns or earth ponies could work like their own city states, isolated from the others in fear of bumping into one of the other pony races
The unicorns seem to live in a loose federation of city states, and most of the city states are probably republics.
I find this rather humorous that the roles of Unicorns and Earth Ponies have been swapped.
If any of the locations from "middle" Equestria still exist and are still out there, i could totally picture Sunny and friends possibly finding Ponyville except it would probably be a ghost town cast in ruins, hell half the abandoned town would probably even be covered in vines and plant life from the Everfree forest...but anyway yeah if those places are still somewhere in modern Equestria they're most likely abandoned.
Turns out you were right. Hell I'm the comics Canterlot itself is nothing but a ruined ghost city that looks like the aftermath of a warzone or natural disaster or something.

One possibility is that the princesses never died, but in fact; they never lived; and are fictional in the world of G5.
But if they were real and never died, I have no idea where they went. Maybe G5 is like one of those devastated alternate realities created by Starlight and Twi needs to travel through time to prevent it from existing. :3

I heard a theory somewhere a while back, where Twilight's original universe was abandoned by both starlight and Twilight due to the amount of things they've probably changed while traveling through different timelines. It didn't look like it made a change, but it could be possible that both starlight and Twilight was put to another timeline, not where they were born and grew up in. And as for the original universe they abandoned, it could be possible that the original universe would be where G5 could be taking place in. It would make sense as to why the ponies lost their harmony and magic, I mean, throughout the episode, we've seen what would happen if Twilight was not there to guide any one of the tribes. So it would make sense why their legacy would be forgotten so easily.
I have a couple theories:
1Those 3 cities aren't the only 3
2 this is an isolated incident (like the Hoofiel and McColt or the kirin) completely separated from the rest of equestria
3 a villain did something (I know that's vague, but there are just so many things that do so manydifferent things, windigos, tirek, chrysalis, discord, sombra, nightmare moon, pony of shadows, tantibus, or any other villain that could be new)

well Manehatten does still exist somewhat in this modern equestria. if you look to the big arrivals/departures board in the station ruins Zipp takes sunny and izzy to mentions manehattan as well as a few other locations.

I don’t like how all the magic seems to be gone, permanently. Magic has vanished before in MLP, but there were still magical creatures like dragons and Windigos and Rocs and Hydras around. We haven’t seen a single one of them, and for whatever reason, the Sun and Moon don’t seem to need magic anymore…it’s just disappointing really.
My personal take is that G4 must be more or less a type of mythology to G5. In our own world, we have old stories about magic, mythical creatures, and royalty that controlled the celestial objects, which have some elements of truth to them yet are fictional. If you look at the first page of the book opened at the beginning of FiM, it's written in a Middle Ages font, so my guess is what G5 is going for is looking at Equestria from a more "realistic" perspective.
It honestly is a little disappointing, and I probably would rather have seen something more continuous with the G4 timeline, but it could've been worse at the same time. Even only considering continuity, I think the movie is a big improvement from the 2017 one.
@@Cantersoft The amulet used by Twi to control the sun and moon could very well be under the control of the pegasi or some third party. Artifacts lost their magic last in cozy's attack...
I mean, yeah the movie while good is not perfect like for example they could have explained Sunny motivation better and introduced the crystal much earlier. Windigos could be hinted from Argyle story and research but where do you put dragon in the movie about the divided pony race ? They attack them ?

One thing I want to note is that Zephyr Heights seems to always be over a layer of clouds, and the only G4 place we see with that is the Wonderbolts academy (At least that I remember)
And there are wonder bolt posters all over!! I think that makes sense! Cause why would they rename THE most famous city?
9:14 Actually the abandoned station is a hot air balloon port. Look closely and you'd notice the banners are actually giant deflated ballots and the basket used as an elevator has little bags on the side which are used for changing the weight on a hot air balloon. This explains why there are giant fans there for directing the air balloons and why the stained glass has the ability to slide open (That's still too small an exit). This doesn't debunk your Canterlot theory though, because "Canterlot" is not listed on the back wall of travel destinations.
Good observations. Aren't hot air balloon rides a bit of a luxury though, even in our world? Ponies are always seen riding trains in G4, and the tickets seem super cheap, whereas there's only a few air balloons in Middle Equestria, total. Of course all that could've changed drastically as the years passed, or if the ponies of Modern Equestria actually live somewhere where there are no train routes.
@@Cantersoft It may be luxurious, but since ancient Equesrtia was so dependent on magic to the point where even keeping food fresh needed magic, it’s possible that they were more advanced pre magic outage.

Sunny's map also had a constellation chart attached in the lower left corner. It's possible that was an attempt by Argyle to more accurately place the locations using celestial navigation. Sadly that doesn't help us, since we have even less information about the layout and movement of the constellations of Equestria.
I like to beleive that G5 takes place 1000 years after, and something caused the three alicorns to go into hiding. I just like the thought of Sunny finding Twilight Sparkle 🤣
It's possible that opaline's castle might be part of the castle of the 2 sisters.
I think the best guess right now, based on G5 maps, is that Maretime Bay is Horseshoe Bay on the eastern shore of Equestria and Zephyr Heights and Bridlewood are somewhere north-west of it. There are a couple of mountains and forests in that area, so there may be some thought in how those locations are connected to locations on the G4 map.
That could be. I found some more information about this a couple days ago so I'm going to be making another video about it soon.
Regarding the railroad being gone, what if the tracks were taken to be made into something else? I mean, metal is pretty important, as is wood. Though, admittedly, the latter might have rotted away. Not sure how the ponies would have removed it with hooves, though given how much they pick up their hooves might have very well been made with Velcro.
Thanks for putting this together! I see in the comments that you've found Stinken1's tweet on the subject. I do hope you'll make a follow-up video covering that information. Assuming the screencaps stitched in that tweet are reliable, I'm of the opinion that the movie took place in the far eastern regions of Middle Equestria.

I know I'm kinda late to the party, but Zephyr Heights very clearly is on a red rock mountain, not grey rock like Canterlot. Taking also into account that the entire movie seems to take place over just three or four days, it would make sense to place Maretime Bay at Horseshoe Bay like you did and Zephyr Heights in the nearby Badlands, to account for the short travel time. That information puts Bridlewood in any one of the nearby forests.
Those are some good points! I actually made an updated video about this because I found another map that provides a little more evidence towards the pony cities existing farther southeast. I didn't really think about the fact that the Badland mountains are the same type of rock as Zephyr Heights's before. That's some fairly solid evidence.
Give me to wonder could Izzy’s home brywood forest could be another breed of the ever free forest ?

why would Sunnys Twilight toy be a young Twilight and not the tall, flowy-maned pony that ruled Equestria for (presumably) at least a thousand years? Young Twilight (or normal height Twilight) wasn’t around for nearly as long. Maybe like 25 years or so? Because Cadence isn’t that much older than her and shes already growing into a full alicorn in G4

Fun fact: reforestaion is something that can happen naturaly, when the tempriture cools a location plant life can reclaim arid locals. The stranger part to me is that maritine bay overlaps with cluge town, I don't know how it's spelt. Also asuming that the water levels rose over the apptoxomate 1,000 years that could explain the bay.

I like to think that G5 is an alternate universe where the mane 5 turned on each other and brought their races with them, and the G4 universe mane 5 lived happy long lives and their legacy still lives on.

The gen1 cartoon makes a cameo in gen5 on a TV which is strange because in gen 1 the three pony races are freinds but in modern equestria they all fear/dislike eachother, hmmmm, mabye Sunnys father isnt the only pony who knew the truth that unicorns, Pegasus and earth ponies used to be freinds?

In my AU of g5, zephyr heights is built on the ruins of canterlot, bridal wood is in a now tamed everfree forest, and maretime bay is where mane hatten used to be. Until I found this video and the map. But other than that, this video is amazing!
Middle Equestria seems to correspond to our North American Continent. The rough shape and geology is similar and place names (Vanhoover, Manehattan, etc.) seem to support this.
I've heard theories that Modern Equestria might instead be on what we know as Europe. One supporting fact is the license plate on Sprout's vehicle, which definitely looks a lot like most EU plates and it even has the German license plate font (so called "FE-Schrift"). Some people assume windigos are only native to the Equestrian equivalent of North America, i.e. Middle Equestria, but they haven't spread into the "European Equestria" (i.e. Modern Equestria). It might also explain why the legend and stories of the old Mane Six weren't widely known to the ponies of Modern Equestria.
Also: FiM was produced in Canada (North America) while ANG was produced in Ireland (Europe).
So I actually think that the map Sunny owns is a hand made map of lower "Equestria", or rather, the land where Tempest comes from.
Just below the Badlands, I believe Zephyr Heights is located within the "Dark mountains", Bridlewood is the forest just below, and Maritime Bay is just beside that
Well since the magic was gone for awhile canterlot went into chaos and ultimately collapsed. Also since there was no magic left twilight passed from old age since she didn't have any magic, because that was how Princess celestia and Luna were able to maintain their immortality.

Zephyr heights appears to sit atop canterlot mountain, and if I'm not mistaken, a district of canterlot I swear was mentioned in g4 that indeed contained a skyport. So if this is true and that zephyr heights sits atop canterlot mountain, and we see the ruins of the skyport under the zephyr castle, what happened to canterlot proper that sat on the side of the mountain, it looked like midway up, let alone the the lower district that sat at the base of the mountain?
I'm now wondering about what happend to the dragons the changlings and griffins yacks

I think that G5 is a bad future to G4, because in G5 Twilight is in her younger appearance instead of her older Alicorn appearance, it would make sense if G5 takes place in a world where Celestia and Luna both die in the final fight, and since Twilight didn't get a proper ceremony to become the ruler of Equestria, everypony eventually stopped listening to her since she isn't technically the ruler anymore, resulting in the three races splitting.
Next generation take place 1000-2000 years After Friendship is magic

I like to subscribe to a theory i heard someone else told about Alicorns and immortality. Where born ones like Luna Celestia and Flurry are all immortal while the ones who earned their wings/horns like Cadence and Twilight only have somewhat expanded lifespans. So i think that Celestia and Luna are still in retirement but since equestria is no longer their issue and since theyre immortal and probably witnessed the rise and fall of many other pony civilizations they decided to just let it go and enjoy their freedom from burdens

@@Cantersoft np not to mention with luna's depowered form not being seen when she first transforms into Nightmare Moon. It suggests that Celestia and Luna are more than 1000 years old and are using that relative time gap solely because its relevant to the conversations they are in.

I don’t think Bridlewood is on the other side of Equestria from Maretime Bay. It’s somewhere between Maretime Bay and Zephyr Heights in that forest area between Horseshoe Bay and Canterlot on the G4 map.

G5 might just be a different destination because that map is different nothing looks the same as it was in G4, or it could be a separate timeline remember what happened in G4 with Starlight Glimmer she went back in time to stop the sonic Rainboom. Or it could be something totally different I might be wrong.
Have you tried looking under your bed? I often find lost civilisations and kingdoms under there. Maybe you will have some luck there yourself :)

One would think about what people thought of the old maps. And yeah, there inaccurate, BUT, you have to realize that some landmarks may have been either, eroded, lost, or destroyed. I speculate, though either been wrong or never have thought of it before, that everything changed with time or probably destroyed or lost in time. I'm more interested in how ponies have or had been in a war or some other bloody and deadly battle of some sort. This seems to me, that the ponies had some kind of fallout with each other. What's the closest thing that we know of some kind of conflict that we know of that was almost to this scale? How could it shed some clues into how it relates to this current problem that we gave in figuring out what happened in Equestria? What was the ignition that lit a keg full of explosive powder? I’d imagine it has something to do with the loss of magic in Equestria, which would be in the spin-off series MLP: Equestria girls. There was a crack between the two worlds as stated in Sawtooth Waves’ video. I bet it might've been twenty or thirty years after the rest, except for Twilight and the other two alicorns, that there were some conflict of sots that was going to cause some massive casualties in the numbers. Say, war, take over, or something else entirely.
It sound like G5 dont have a ruler like G4 is the Royalty . Seem like the civilization have changed a lot and no longer exsist the Royalty ruler type . I think the Harmony Tree should be the location still exsist cause no matter what happen in Equestria , the Harmony Tree still exsist . If the tree is not here than this is not Equestria cause the Harmony Tree is the witness for all of this

When I watch another episode on that on different channel, sorry! I say it there own land and bet they might go there in show if even pop up. And once there, they help the mane 6 or cough 7 to 8 next war or other issue. A with the creepy intro of genn5 movie. It kind of clear the alive. And seem like it kid dream to find the old hero’s off mlp world. Or could be twilight save them if the evil pony come back. But I’m guessing the other way. Twilight may be explore pony but not as hiccups and his dragon. In the movie how to train your dragon.

Heres a theory, twilight stored her magic in these relics, causing her, her alicorn-hood, and maybe even her life. She probably hoped her magic would last longer in objects as it says in my little pony, season 5. Hoping that one day magic would be restored. Since magic in pony's usually wear out earlier then objects do. And maybe she stored her magic in these objects because the same thing happened before, as in generation 5.

The "Middle Equestria" doesn't look Medieval at all to me. The Ponyville may be a newly settled agricultural town, so most of its buildings are made of Wattle and Daub. While Canterlot is an old (thousand years) Capital and Manehattan was an industrial town, hence many stone buildings.
Putting the time frame of G5 on 1000 years into the future seems strange. Since trains already exist, industrialization, mass produced steel, and even magically powered machine also exist. I would say around 500 years or less. remember that we, humans, entered the industrial era 200 years ago, then we go from the first flight to the landing on the Moon only within 66 years!
Now we still don't know if a catastrophic tragedy hit the entire Equestria that regress their technological advancement (Perhaps the Wendigos?) But if this theoretical Catastrophy really did happened, then you're right at 1000 or 1500 years into the future, not at 5000 years though. Great video anyways, I'm waiting for your newest theory.
Thanks for providing your thorough insight! I think it could be a short amount of time (a few hundred years) if all the alicorns were killed. G5's world seems a league more advanced than that of G4, but you make a point, not by enough that it would make sense for such little progress to be made in such a long stretch of time.

What if the three pony kinds got separated based on what actually happened in the past for example the earth ponies learned that unicorns could shoot horn lasers and fry brains, what if that had actually happened in the past and was true because it doesent seem to made up and in friendship is magic we found out that they could actually do that. And what about the pegasi swopping down and snatching young Earth ponies maybe they have actually done in the past with them. Unicorns learned that earth ponies were lazy and had very small brains what if they were actually lazy and how would unicorns know they had very small brains if they could not read minds or even fry brains
