Dear friend. Stop saying that you are just a guest in Poland. You have
Poles ancestors, your heart and mind confirms it. As you have noticed we Poles have
a lot of flaws. We also have advantages. Please feel at home in Poland. You
deserve it. The fact is that you are doing for Poland more than lot of Poles.

      Krzysztof Konefal well said brother.

    • @LS-Moto
      @LS-Moto 7 лет назад +5

Krzysztof Konefal You have to look deeper into it. You have to understand that he grew up in a different culture and moved to another place. While he feels comfortable living in Poland, there are aspects in his life, where he still approaches it as a foreigner. It is just like Polish people that move to the USA. They become American citizens, but many of them still feel more connected to Poland that America, because they grew up Polish. I'm also a Polish citizen by birth being born in Germany, I speak Polish pretty good, but not as fluent as a native. I have lived in Poland, but I have also lived in Canada, Germany and now in Belgium. I feel strongly connected to Poland, but there are also things that I strongly disagree with what most Poles agree, and when I'm in Poland - I'm more foreign than a Pole that has constantly lived there. So I get where he is coming from, considering that he would be even more foreign than me. Its not that he feels bad in Poland, but you have to admit, its not always easy in Poland as a foreigner regardless of citizenship - especially not now with the political tensions in Europe.

As for cases of racism in Poland - we are still rather homogenic society, actually comparable to Japan when it comes to our cluture, tradition and open/closed-mindedness. But I have to admit Poland has really changed over the last 15-20 years, and the new generation is very curious and open towards foreigners. Polish people just keep watching what's been going on all over the Europe, and we just don't want terrorism in Poland. Because right now Poland is one of the safest countries in Europe.

Really? I was reading a little about the history of Poland: it was a melting pot of cultures and peoples for centuries, destroyed by Nazis who hated Slavs, among other people. Poland only became "pure" because of aggression and murder of everything it stood for.

yea, i can understand this. I worked in korea for the last two years and people still stare at foreigners a little. People are just not used to other people in such a homogenous country. I plan to go to Poland in the summer and Im a bit nervous since Im clearly not Polish lol.... but I will take it with a grain of salt if I face some ignorance here and there

      No, you don't...
He makes it out to be so nice.
      The racism/xenophobia thing.
Is partly true. To americans or westeners it ay seem poles are racist, but were are simply not used to people from other races. I still often commit the well bad thing. Of constantly asking stuf of people from different countries. To the point they get annoyed. Simply because if you live in Poland... there are only Poles. Maybe a Gypsy or Ukrainian... but generarly it's 99.9% Poles.
Also it does not help that in school we are taight to hate every country which is not Poland, Lithuenia or Hungary...
Poland is also quite poor and has lov living standards compared to the west.

    • @m4rt1nDRK
      @m4rt1nDRK 7 лет назад +46

Vjorp I don't know where you come from brother but I was never taught to hate anyone, neither in school nor in home. I was taught pragmatism and to never trust Germans, Brits, Russians or Ukrainians, for obvious historical reasons and the fact that majority of my family died while fighting those 3 and betrayed by the one.
You should be more optimistic :-) I have travelled through Europe in the day and I can tell you that living in Poland, especially in bigger cities, it is not that much different any more. Quality of life in here is not bad at all :)
      Regards and peace

      That was what I meant.
In big cities yes, but in small towns even at the german border it is still far behind germans just over.
And in the east people still live under hay roofs.

My dad comes from Macedonia and he travelled to Poland only because he met my mom when he was on holidays in Bulgaria ;) he totally felt in love and now he speaks polish fluently, he also says that he feels like a Pole, he is supporting all polish players/national teams. He doesn't feel like an intruder there. Polish people aren't racists - we come from a small town and my dad never felt wronged or worse than others. I hope you'll also feel like a real Pole soon! ;)

Ryan, I was wondering how do you feel about Hungary? Last year was year of Polish-Hungarian solidarity, and we have national day of Polish-Hungarian friendship (23 march). These nations have so much common history. Hungary are really only Poles true friends for so many centuries. Most aware polish people sees Hungarian as brothers - we do say in Poland "Polak, Węgier dwa bratanki - i do szabli i do szklanki".
I could write that in polish, but i prefer to use my poor english to encourage you to use polish language same way, but it's topic for another discussion. :)

Ryan, I fully understand your preference to expres your thoughts in your native language, not polish. I am living in your native country and consider myself fluent in English, yet feel much more comfortable explaining more complex subjects in Polish. If one was raised in another country doesn't have the same background, as natives. Doesn't matter if it is a Pole living in USA or American living in Poland. One might be curious, open minded and adventurous, fluent in the language but that communication "gap" will always be present. I believe you are an excellent ambassador of Poland, and it's culture.

Hi Ryan, I like your videos ... I used to live in Poland as a foreigner too, my husband is Polish and we lived in Poland for 3 years... I learned the language but now I don't practice it much...you are fluent so just keep it up, it is a superpower! I try speaking to my husband sometimes but then I get to a point when I forget the words and I have to keep on in English... my grammar is not very good but I try because I don't want to lose the language, it took me lots to learn it! I think it is more difficult to learn it from English because the sounds and the grammar are so different, my native language is Spanish and from Spanish the changes on the cases when you speak Polish make more sense... English lacks some prepositions in some cases in order to understand why you have to modify the word, but it can be also because I'm not an English native speaker. Anyway, have a nice Easter time and a beautiful spring (I love Polish spring, is the nicest I've seen)!

This film was sent to me. It was somewhat interesting due to three reasons: (1) The love of kultura; (2) Linguistics varibales; and (2) Being an aficionado of history, political science and ethnicity.
My American grandparents always spoke positive about Poland. My dad use to send packages of books to the stary kraj (old country). I teach my granddaughter the Polish language. In fact, we never communicate in English (unless we are required to do such). If it were not for the fact of grandchildren, in all probability, I’d be residing in Warsaw. In fact, I was ready to buy a home in Polska. To insure dual contact and have amenities for friends, future vacations… I purchased a retirement home in the SunShine state. This is where the old adge of “one never knows about tomorrow” comes in.
I have no idea what kind of education the director of this video Kult has and/or what kind of travelling experience he has. However, his commentary about racism provided fascination.
Most people don’t hate others. That’s indoktrynacja from monopolio media and presstitude. The fact is, most people just want to be amongst their own kind. It has nothing to do with what scholars all around the world once referred to as Bestire Africanae. That’s propaganda. It’s used by those who recognize that most of the Dark Continent’s SubSahara environment, about 125 years ago, were engaged in cannibalism and other cultural traits. It’s also used by those concerned with turmoil in unofficial Afro City States around the globe. It’s loaded dice.
The homo nuvus seeking to improve that segment should not move to the Baltic States, Byelorussia or Poland. They should consider immersing themselves in a colourful raj by taking their skills to Somilia, Haiti or other needly places that could truly be enriching for themselves and (2) assist the needy. He lived in Chicage. So, why leave such a paradise? To bring up such a topic is asinine.

Chicagoan here. In my time dating polish women, it's clear that they take more pride in being women. One former polish girlfriend would get upset when I would cook and clean for myself.

Poland was voted second safest country in the world. There's a reason why that is. Poland is mostly Christian and mostly Polish so call them racist but it ranks as one of the safest countries for men and women!! No politically right BS in Poland, lol.

I like Poland too, it seems to me like a nice country :) Another reason is that they liberate us at WW2 (General Maczek). Back in the day at school early eighties (cold war), a teacher try to say that we should be forever thankfull to the Americans, Canadians and English that they helped us. Well that was partial true and I told him so, I hated the western propaganda and I told him nicely that the Poles liberate this part of the Netherlands. I guess he was happy that I was leaving school ;)

Poland is a country where you can have a good time and have very good life. It is common thing, that the place of accomodation (houses, apartments) we mostly want to buy for our own, rather than to rent them. (In opposite to UK, where you rent it and have the temporary existance, having no own property). No natural disasters, no bomb/terror threats, we invited refugees but they dont like us ;) (they have chosen better paid socials in Germany ;/), no such social stratification between rich and poor, the society in general is getting richer, nice and kind people, great food, beautiful forests and lakes.. in shops large variety of products... richer than in other EU countries. When I was living in UK I was pissed off that I couldn`t find popular global products, you could have the mostly UK brands.. :) Poland is great place to live, many polish people are more convinced when they leave the country and then come back to Poland. I truly invite you to Poland, to find out the reality of our country. Regards.

I strongly disagree we Poles are racists. It could be, that our strong patriotism and love for our own kind projects Your misconception about it. Please, give us a concrete example or situation You experienced that would support Your point. Thank You.

Seriously? I've experienced racism many times so far. Poles ARE racists and they cover it by their patriotism. It's very weak. I don't like racism, I don't like nationalism but I must agree that protects us from terrorism and keeps us safe. It's only one a good consequence of polish mind-closeness. And it's only one reason why I still live here.
And yes, I'm polish and I say all of these things about my own country. Cheers!
