Came to hear the Behringer mostly. I'm a little sad we didn't hear an acoustic instrument other than a steel string guitar but I understand that's what most viewers are interested in. I'm planning on using it to boost a piezo with no pre-amp on a classical acoustic and am aware of my others (e.g. violinists) who are interested in this.
A fine presentation! Thank you for using a guitar that is like the one most of us would be using (i.e. not a super expensive guitar). The Yamaha sounds great! The sequence, timing, cinematography (pedals pictured on the side while using) are all excellent. The idea of sounding great on a budget is also appreciated. y favs are the AD21 and the HB, though I didn't dislike the others. Cheers!
Really great comparison and a nice clear and concise video. Great job. My favorite out of this is the Behringer, but saying that the Harley Benton has some other effects that none of these has, so I will have to check a video on that unit to see how these effects compliment that pedal
The Begringer ADI21 is an excellent copy of the Tech21 Sansamp Para DI an amazing option. I love mine, had it for over 20 years and still going strong.
I've had the bass version of that Behringer pedal for a very long time. Now using the Acoustic as well. The plastic case and button are really not a problem. I think you would have to really abuse it to break anything. It's so cheap, buy two and have a backup if you think you'd break it. I love that something so inexpensive works so well. I did put a little dot of silver paint on the knobs because in a stage situation it is hard to tell which way they are oriented otherwise.
I also use the Behringer ADI21, and in this video I thought it, and the Harley Benton, sounded best. I also marked the knobs to make them easier to see. I've used it on stage many times, with no problems. I bought it to boost the signal from a fairly low-output Fishman magnetic soundhole pickup, which it does very well. As I prefer magnetic pickups (a Shadow SH145 is better than any piezo in my opinion), I haven't used it with piezos.
My experience of the Behringer is the same. I've used one for more than ten years and many, many gigs. The battery connector has failed but the pedal still works fine with a plug in power lead.
Yes, I'd love to see and hear the non-budget versions with a comparison against the budget models. It's always nice to know what you're paying that non-budget price for.

Find it more natural. Glad to finally hear a German say 'Behringer', BTW. This video is gonna help me in my ever lasting argument with my British and Spanish friends. Thanks Kris
Thank you for this comparison...I was actually considering an AD121 and this convinced me to go in that direction....being a solo act, I am not as concerned about being too harsh on the pedal, and thanks to Clifton's response/experience with that pedal, that pushed me the rest of the way.
ADI21 is analog, not digital. This is also why it sounds more 'warm'. the' BLEND' knob is a tube amp simulation...but dont go crazy with it; so anywhere from 12 o'clock onwards will give a tube-like tone to your instrument. If your piezo instrument sounds very bright, the 'BLEND' may also help tame the highs.
I use an ADI21 live since a long time. I’m really happy with it, and I have no reservations about sturdiness. Granted, since I play mainly in church services, there’s not a lot of stage diving going on. But it eats batteries like there’s no tomorrow, even when it’s unplugged and switched off. However, the overdrive is great when it’s not the input stage clipping. I think you could do a more in-depth review of this piece of kit.
Try the NUX Optima Air, beats all of these pedals, no doubt, though the XVive is not that bad! IR, affordable and it was already around when this clip was made....
For as cheap as they are - buy 2 of the Behringer ADI21 pedals. Use one, keep the other as a backup (or for dueling acoustic jams). I just bought one, already have the bass pedal, as well as 2 of the guitar pedals (for my sound production business, if ever needed). The XLR out has speaker emulation, super easy to plug right into a PA system. :)

If the sound is not good, you might start to experiment with better placement of the piezo, also try with multiple piezos plcaed, also a piezo needs a high-z preamp, for instance just a simple j_fet opamp circuit, failing to do, you get bad soundquality. Hope this helps
Hey, thanks for the comparison! I have a Lakewood M54 with a LR Baggs Anthem that delivers a pretty good and natural sound. I wonder if it is reasonable to also have an additional preamp to tweak out the best of the tone and additionally have a good notch filter. Hey man this was a very well put video, I loved the cinematic camera angles. I’ve been an acoustic player since I started, and I’ve never had a pre amp pedal , and Im wondering if the Xvive Mike can also work on acoustic bass, or does the bass need an acoustic amp specified for a…Bass?
This is a really considered review/comparison. The bodyrez sounds exactly like a piezo, albeit a good one (Yamaha usually have pretty good piezos). The Mike has better treble but still that gravelly bass chatter. More or less the same with the Artec, but it seems to have less tonal range than the Mike. The Behr has great chordal sound but still chattery on single strings - definitely the best of the bunch. The HB just sounds like a piezo - like the Bodyrez. I made these judgements listening to each one separately, and confirmed when you did the back to back. Your comment about the build quality of the Behr was interesting, but it wouldn't rule it out for me as you don't need to have it as a stomp. You could just have it on the whole time and keep away from it - even mount it on an amp or a stand. Not pretty but effective. It's better by far to just stay away from piezos if you can, IMO. By the time you spent the money for a non-budget box, you may as well replace with something like a Fishman rare earth + internal mic or (even better) the Skysonic knock of at 1/3 the price.
I am new to pedals.... but for acoustic guitar I was also expecting Zoom AC-2, AC-3 in this list.... how different is that pedal that did not make it to the list?
Hi, Kris here. There is no mic in the guitar, but a piezo pickup. It's the stock pickup in this Yamaha guitar. Check out the video descrption box for product information. You'll find the guitar there too. //cheers, Kris
maybe a best pop in pickup like the dean markley pro mag series? and thanks for the SLAYER it reminds need to re-shoot my acoustic death metal vid I shot for Andy :) OOOH I lost so much (great) stuff.
I felt the BodyRez did the best job at achieving something closer to a mic'd guitar. All the rest retained that choked off piezo sound. I can't help but assume the Harley Benton preamp, with all its knobs, has a lot more potential when tweaked just right, but the fact that the BodyRez did its job so well with only a single knob absolutely sells it for me. I've watched many reviews of these and other acoustic solutions and, pound for pound, BodyRez takes it. It is definitely a one trick pony, but that trick is very well executed.
I'm a little bit new to the world of guitars. So my question I plug my electronic guitar into one of those pedals and my e-guitar will sound like a accoustic guitar?
No. But there are other pedals that do that. Try “acoustic simulator “ and see what that finds you. That said, electric and acoustic guitar are like piano and organ, similar but also very different.
I use the TC Electronic Bodyrez on electric guitar. It seems to be taking out some mids and adds a bit of compression, but it's a cool sound that gives me plenty of compliments on my tone! It's a no brainer for my acoustic guitar, since it makes the transducer sound much better.
Starting with the guitar, if it feels good in your hands and you like the way it sounds, then that is a good guitar (i.e. it doesn't really matter about brand, etc. I chose my Washburn with electronics over a Martin or Taylor, even though I like Martin and Taylor). Next, the amp. Do you want a natural sound? A Fishman acoustic would work well. I like a solid state for bars since I can goof around with reverb; but I use a PA lots of times, that's why I watched this video - so I could figure out some inexpensive ways to make the piezo sound better :) An eq pedal of your liking will help, then just decide if you want a little chorus, reverb, delay, etc. Most of all, have FUN with it.
Great info here. I'd have loved to hear the guitar Without Effects for a reference-tone, so we can Hear exactly what each pedal is doing to the base-sound.
love this review, most piezo guitars sound like sh#t direct into my inears. Right now I use a Line6 hx stomp pedal to accomodate my acoustics but I would like something more aimed at just acoustic. PLEASE do a non budget version!
I didn't think ADI21 was digital. They are a cheap copy of Tech 21 SansAmps and those were analog. I could be wrong, I am not insisting, but that is my recollection :)
They all sound more like plastic than an acoustic guitar. It's hard to believe how advanced amp modeling is for electrics now, but we can't make a real acoustic sound loud enough for performance.
I know this video is old but I just don't see the the value of a pedal to "enhance" an acoustic instrument sound that doesn't involve an impulse response.
Thanks for the budget comparison. I would venture to say that the highest percentage of players are not "professional musicians" and can't spend astronomical amounts of money on a high end kit. Doesn't mean we don't want good sound tho
Got a thormaan single cut larry carlton. Replaced the bridge and tuners, because the D tuner was overlapped by 1\4 inch! of badly cut head stock! It will not stay in tune!! for 1bar !! Let alone a whole song!
Don't use a under the saddle transducer to start with. Fifteen yrs ago I learned this, after five years of spending hundreds of dollars and man hrs scooping mids, compressing and smothering the quack with whatever worked. I still hear a quack. Get rid of that thing.
Im sorry to say this, but all of these devices sounds bad and is hopeless. Whatever you do with these effects, you will never hear the real acoustics of the guitar body. Beside that, the sound is artificial, lifeless and flat. It's a shame that most brands don't have any knowledge about amplifying the real characteristics of an acoustic guitar. They mostly placing an 'under the saddle' pickup because it's the easiest way for them to place but it's worst nightmare for the sound. You must begin to replace the factory pickup with a piezo disc which should be placed inside on the soundboard. The position of the piezo disc is very important, but if you know how to do it... you will experience a great real acoustic sound which you've never heard before on your amp. No need for pedals or effects anymore. If you want to know more about this, feel free to write me a message.
Sorry, but only the TC sounded good here. There's no solution other than to embrace the Piezo or combine it with a different system. Embrace the full range, scoop the mids and let these highs shine like how they do on a mixed acoustic guitar. Throw in that compressor and reverb because these systems will never ever sound good dry. Most people don't know how to use the Piezo and it's sad.

@Vadriel Theelf I agree 👍
I'm a little bit new to the world of guitars. So my question
I plug my electronic guitar into one of those pedals and my e-guitar will sound like a accoustic guitar?
Shouldve tried a 10 channel EQ in comparison too
Hello. I have a question: Are these usables with nylon guitar? Thanks.
What equipment do you recommend for a budget including the pickups and other required things...
I have no clue what to get...
Hello.... at the beginning of comparisons he does play a plain guitar sample.... 4:53 no pedal.
@@zacksovine6923 Yeah - Thanks. I just re-watched. I love this channel. oNe LovE from NYC
love this review, most piezo guitars sound like sh#t direct into my inears.
They are analog from what I understand.
Body Rez is fine, but I found myself wanting more after awhile
Slayerrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!😂😂😂😂
Merci Toto
They all sound more like plastic than an acoustic guitar. It's hard to believe how advanced amp modeling is for electrics now, but we can't make a real acoustic sound loud enough for performance.
I think MIKE is pretty impressive...
Think I'm gonna save up for a Fishman aura though...
I wonder what the guitar sounds like without the pedals ...
Got a thormaan single cut larry carlton. Replaced the bridge and tuners, because the D tuner was overlapped by 1\4 inch! of badly cut head stock! It will not stay in tune!! for 1bar !! Let alone a whole song!
Artec and HB sound good
Can you do reviews of affordable acoustic guitar pickups too
need to be honest the arteq is simple and clean to my ears
Nux stageman and optima air..
Don't use a under the saddle transducer to start with. Fifteen yrs ago I learned this, after five years of spending hundreds of dollars and man hrs scooping mids, compressing and smothering the quack with whatever worked. I still hear a quack. Get rid of that thing.
Plot twist: a cheap 5 band EQ pedal works just as good
Im sorry to say this, but all of these devices sounds bad and is hopeless.
If you want to know more about this, feel free to write me a message.
i totally agree!!!
Hi Jerry, I’d be interested to know more about out the piezo disk 😊
Prefer the Artec.
Artec seemed to yield the most balaned tone
Sorry, but only the TC sounded good here.
There's no solution other than to embrace the Piezo or combine it with a different system. Embrace the full range, scoop the mids and let these highs shine like how they do on a mixed acoustic guitar. Throw in that compressor and reverb because these systems will never ever sound good dry.
Most people don't know how to use the Piezo and it's sad.
Would love a non budget version.
buy Neumann mics
Best way to un-piezo you guitar?
Buy a Fishman Rare Earth pickup.
I hate the sound of piezos!
