    I am so pleased I found this video. Sub'd! I just tried this on my K702 using freebie EQ using "QRange" - an IIR linear phase EQ from a company called "lkjb". I own Sonarworks 3 and was never happy with its K702 profile, but this sounds fantastic! Thank you so much for saving me the hassle for continuing to look for different cans and saving me so much time!

    tried this last night after getting my k701's and got a great mix that sounds good on all playback devices i tested on (FINALLY)...thanks for taking the time to do this!
    another thing for anyone thinking about k701s and amps/external DAC's... while they might sound better with an external DAC/amp (i've been looking at the fiio k3 as a cheap/decent quality)... on a macbook pro (mid 2012) at least, it drives the k701's loud enough for mixing with no amp... windows laptops probably do benefit a lot more as sound on those is not great quality, but for apple laptops at least it seems to be enough to get a decent mix.

    • @ScanProAudioTV
      @ScanProAudioTV  4 года назад +1

      IT might drive it, to a good volume, but you'll be hitting saturation fairly early on, and there's also the high pass and lowpass filters on the MacBook headphone out.
      Try something like the ifi Zen Can that i reviewed last week if you want to drive them properly with headroom before saturation.

      @@ScanProAudioTV Thanks, I just checked out the Zen Can review, looks good. Right now I'm using the headphone out on my Maschine MK3 and using that as an audio interface...should have enough power to drive the headphones, but I can't find any decent info on the sound quality... it sounds good to me but how will I know what I'm missing LOL. Do you have any thoughts on the MK3 headphone out? Cheers!

    how do you account for the Q value differences between plugins that have no cramping like pro Q and others that have cramping? I've found this difficult using highly regarded headphone measurements from the likes of orotary and such but their EQ parameters are for EQ's that have cramping at the top end near the nyquist frequency. not sure if it's imperative to use a specific formula to calculate Q as you do get closer to 20khz or if you just sort of match it as best as you can. would love to hear your thoughts.

    I just got my702 fresh off the delivery van… My question is, did you do the measuring on broken in headphones or fresh ones? Do they even need to be broken in or it is going to sound like as fresh out of the box? I noticed it is little harsh in the highs, and weak in the bass range. I had a similar experience with speakers, they sounded good when I listened to them in the shop, than I wired the fresh speakers and they sounded very different, so I did some research, and it turned out that they need to be broken in, after 20 or so hours of ware they had been tamed. Is it the case with 702-s too?

    Hey hello, thanks for doing that comparison ! Can clarify a thing for me, as I'm not a primeraly english speaker, when you say "don't forget to disable before you bounce", do you mean to disable it before listen to the mix, or the master, on speakers ? Also what are you impressions of Binauralizer and Spatial Audio Designer ? Did you tried those ?

    • @ScanProAudioTV
      @ScanProAudioTV  4 года назад

      Yes, disable before you bounce your master mix down from a DAW or playback on speakers.
      Binauralizer and Spacial audio designer (And waves NX) let you monitor surround sound mixes in binaural, none of which really help with stereo translation for music all that much. Can Opener by Goodhertz is my go-to plugin for this.

I found some of the more expensive studio monitors (ie. Focal, Shure 1840, etc) to really lack bass and way too dry. I produce electronic music and can’t mix on very dry, analytical headphones with no low end. I’m not a bass head at all, but why do they call it “accurate” or “flat” when there’s barely anything below 80-100Hz?! Anyway, thanks for doing this and I’m super happy with my K702 which I’ve now owned for 8 years and just had the ear-pads replaced with Brainwavz earpads and the sound didn’t change much at all.

      I wouldn't compare to any headphones but rather to speakers. even the highest end headphones are not going to be accurate. they will have less distortion, better dynamics, stage, imaging, and perhaps closer frequency response but it depends on the brands target. audeze headphones all have large dips in the upper mid which typically need to be corrected for. so again id be more keen to compare against a quality set of monitors in a well treated room.
