    You can buy from Merlin Motorsport by phone (not currently on their website) on 01249 782101 - ask for "ITG HMP-921"
    We bought ours from this Ebay supplier for £91.20 inc VAT and delivery:
    www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ITG-Profil...
    In this FREE video which we gain nothing apart from helping other enthusiasts enjoy their Up! GTI, we show you how to replace the standard air filter on your VW Up! GTI with a performance version, in this case made by Coventry based company ITG.
    We used a filter from ITG's Profilter range which is designed to replace the standard filter and fit within the normal airbox.
    ITG don't promise any horsepower gains but they do suggest that torque might be increased and throttle response sharpened which is exactly what we found to be the case.
    The difference won't be night and day so don't expect to necessarily feel a difference like you would with a remap but on our car, on that day, it was there.
    We paid £91.20 which is a lot more than a standard air filter (£20) but it does an important job so you need to pay enough for a decent brand and with ITG's motorsport heritage, they are a brand I trust fully. They last 5 times longer than a standard filter which justifies the price.
    I first came across ITG when I was told they made the filters for renowned Audi tuners MRC Tuning of Banbury which is as good a confirmation of their quality as you can get.
    Also you will get a fair chunk of that money back if you sell your ITG filter on once you've sold the car so don't throw your old filter away!
    Don't worry about the oil damaging your Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAF) - it's not like a normal oil, it's super sticky and not particularly oily.
    Official instructions on cleaning and oiling can be found here;

    Just wanted to say Thanks for these videos. I was servicing the wife’s Up Gti at the weekend and I must admit to being a bit stumped as to how to get access to the air filter. A quick view of your helpful explanation and job done. Keep up the good work Sir👍🏻

    Use a magnetic driver or a magnet, use silicone spray on the rubbers and they pretty much slide in.

    I'm thinking of ordering an UP (then waiting 6 months to get it) but I can't seem to get a definitive answer on if the drivers seat is height adjustable as standard? There's a £75 option to make it adjustable but I've been told thats just to make the passenger seat adjustable.

    It's such a cute car. Sometimes I still think i've should have bought the Up instead of the Polo.

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  5 лет назад +1

      Hey Der Spliff, both great cars. Polo is more substantial but Up! is the essence of a car like a 2CV or a Beetle before it or Fiat 500. Just enough and no more. Likewise the GTI is just enough performance too. Try and get one as a courtesy car and see if you like it.

    Still not got an up!date on my build week on mine which I placed on 10/02 (already spoke to you about this)
    The sales guy did say in an email that he knows of people selling these for more money then they bought them for....which I’m not sure was the right thing to mention but hey ho!
    Will miss the videos on this thing

      Will do Andrew, I've been using Autotrader model px /private selling model as VW UK model currently is shit . Best px I was offered was £11500 in px for a new discounted MX5 Zsport model (UK stock) before their New model arrives. VW PX for my 7500mile UPGTi near base spec but as new was a pathetic £8500

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  5 лет назад +1

      Don't forget that px is price is often dependent on what you are buying so the MX5 may have the potential to be discounted a bit more as old model but instead they give you more in px. WBAC is always the starting point for negotiations though allow £500 for their commission based negotiations when you get there (even on perfect cars). I suspect WBAC would offer more than VW. I wonder if VW are trying to screw as much out of used cars as the new cars are not being sold in anything like the numbers they were?

    Great video Andrew, got to admit when I spoke to you at inters I said I thought the up gti was a strange car to buy with your experience. That being said I have just bought my daughter a lupo as her first car ( unfortunately not a gti) but I was impressed how well it drove for a small car. Having the golf r I can see me talking the missus into having one of these in the family next!

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Andy, you have to drive it to get it. Ideally on a nice country road in the dry. It must be how people felt when they drove the Mk1 GTI for the first time back in the day (just with better brakes!). A real eye opener. Lupo is good but chassis on Up! is significantly better sorted.

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  5 лет назад +2

      It might appear unlikely but I have actually driven one (I drove the one in the Car Wow drag race) and it was fun. But it's quite a lot more expensive than the Up! GTI so is more of a Polo GTI rival and in that case (as per the Car Wow) verdict, I'd take the Polo :)

    Hello, I'm aware you no longer own the up but do you recall a change in mpg between the stock and performance filter? All the best.

    • @peterlewis3540
      @peterlewis3540 3 года назад

      It will all depend on how you drive the car.
      I own a March 2019 UP Gti, Stage 1 remapped by JBS of Chesterfield, from 116hp standard to 144.3hp tuned.
      Driven like a Granny, with fuel economy in mind, ive seen 77.2mpg on the fuel computer.
      Installing a Performance Panel Filter will probably not increase the fuel efficiency of the car, it all depends on how you drive the car, that what matters

    Will there be any more upgrades? Racechip have a couple of upgrades for the ECU with some really good gains in power and torque and reasonably priced.

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  5 лет назад +2

      Hi Richard. I'm selling my car now but, and others may feel differently about this - I don't feel the car needs and more power or torque. It's already getting tripped up (i.e. power is being cut way too soon and too often) by the clumsy traction control system which you can't switch off and more torque will only make it worse especially during autumn/winter when grip will be in even shorter supply.

      @@volkswizard thanks for the reply... Is there any reason why the Up is going?

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  5 лет назад +2

      Yes, leaving the city, don't need a city car :) Long commutes beckon and it's great in so many ways but dark, winter motorway runs are not it's forte.

    Anything you can do about the terrible, crashy suspension? With the 17" wheels and super-short wheelbase, it's so unbearably jiggly on the motorway that I am seriously considering selling mine after just 2 months' ownership. Probably the most uncomfortable car I have ever owned.

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  5 лет назад

      Check the tyre pressures before writing it off (see the sticker on the body). There are two settings, you might find it's better on the lower one. I don't find it too bad on the motorway. It's no Audi A8 but motorways are usually quite smooth so it's weird this is where you are having trouble. HTH

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  5 лет назад

      There is definitely scope for a more expensive suspension set up than the clearly budget limited standard set up. A good set of quality coilovers not set too low should do the job. I've just driven a Mk6 Golf R set low on Bilstein B14 and it was hideous, probably the worst riding car I've ever driven so unless you are careful, it could quite easily be worse.

      I had a Mk 1 Gti and it was a grrrreat car... actually, my first car after having a bike licence for 12 years (which I still have of course!). Cant really see the comparison as the Up! is new tech, smaller and well, yeah.... just as much fun I suppose, if not more as its teeny weeny tiny and for some reason makes me laugh out loud, which surely has to be a good reason to own one. smile smile smile, I may well be ordering one to live alongside my RS4 B8 and the T5😃 as so far a test ride is all I have to go on... but its probably been enough!
