She had almost 5 years to practice and learn; especially with LaVile and Samuels as allies sending her books and journals and who knows what she discussed with them on their many visits (which was completely unprofessional on their part). She also had, and still has, access to in the prison library. She has had plenty of time to learn and study the correct verbiage and how to play up to cameras and use theatrics effectively. Fortunately not effective enough as she was found guilty of 1st degree murder with aggravating factors especially cruel proven. It was a shame that sentencing phase was a mis-trial, but with her now defending herself in the new penalty phase September 8th she is most likely either going to seal her own doom, or she will use it to humanise herself to the new jury as they wont have the same experiences that the former jury had to get to know her as a person. My guess is that that is the reason she has chosen to defend herself as it's the only way she can build some sort of relationship with them; therefore making it harder for them to sentence her to death. She also had, and still has, access to in the prison library. She has had plenty of time to learn and study the correct verbiage and how to play up to cameras and use theatrics effectively. Fortunately not effective enough as she was found guilty of 1st degree murder with aggravating factors especially cruel proven. It was a shame that sentencing phase was a mis-trial, but with her now defending herself in the new penalty phase September 8th she is most likely either going to seal her own doom, or she will use it to humanise herself to the new jury as they wont have the same experiences that the former jury had to get to know her as a person. My guess is that that is the reason she has chosen to defend herself as it's the only way she can build some sort of relationship with them; therefore making it harder for them to sentence her to death. She is taking a big risk, but she probably figures that she doesn't really have much left to lose now.
