I saw Shoshana in waitress back in April. Whenever I hear her sing this song I legit fall into a puddle of tears. When I saw the show, we were locked on to her face seeing the emotions watching her cry and sing with her whole heart. I was in tears. I love Shoshana so much
She wasn't singing or acting, she was confessing her soul in the rawest and most honest manner that is humanly possible. By opening up her soul to us it gave us, the audience, permission to also venture into the emotional complexity of our own experiences. This shared connection makes this song, and her performance, that much more impactful and richer.
She is the ultimate vocal actress in contemporary musical theater. If you haven't seen her version of "Stars and the Moon" from "Songs for a New World" it's absolutely incredible. There is not a single beat that passes that doesn't have intention, whether sung or silent. The best.
And that's the genius of Shoshana Bean. The musicality is absolute. Your comment about focus is absolutely spot on. The emotional connection is astonishing.
Sara wrote such a beautiful song and it allows all who have sung to put their personality on it. This song lead to Sara writing the entire score for Waitress and a Tony nomination. This young lady had me memorized from her first note. Beautiful.
This is my first time ever hearing about Shoshana and also hearing her sing. I am so astounded by her marvellous talent and soul touching singing. RIP Shoshana songs😂
She's perfect, the way that she put her emotions into any song that she sings is crazy, please react to another performance of her where she sings "Make It Rain" its mind blowing
Yes! Thank you for saying that it's so important to use your real life emotions and experiences to make a song. Music is therapy, but only if you ARE the person you write and sing about. The melody releases you somehow.
I love how we can see how professional and in control and confident you are, yet you're not cold at all to the depth and feeling of these performances and performers. I think you'd like Keri Rene Fuller doing one of my least favorite songs, Memory... which has become one of my favorite performances... on the same YT channel.
Shoshana has been a massive inspiration of mine. She is astoundingly talented and such an incredible person in real life. So glad you checked out her version of this. One of the best imo
When I saw you had reacted to this song I couldn't click the button fast enough. This is indeed a master class on acting a song not just singing it, and I watch it a couple of times a week. She shows we mere mortals how its done. She commits everything to her performance, if you look close she has tears in her eyes. There should be a tutorial on how to sound great singing while actually crying.
Thanks for reacting to Shoshanna.... she is also a world class jazz singer as a previous comment mentioned. Make It Rain was recorded live at the Ace hotel in Los Angelis and is one of the most brilliant performances I have ever heard. She has also done duets with Cynthia Orevo and Amber Riley. Please when there is time react again to this incredible woman.
YAY FINALLY! And I’m glad it’s your favorite version now too! Definitely recommend you watch her performance of No Good Deed live on tv. It’s old but it showcases her amazing talent AND all while being very very sick.
My top 3 versions Allison Luff - gave it a feel of innocence and melancholy; technically flawless imho and her melodic lines are so clear Jessie Mueller - just heartbreaking.. you can feel brokenness in her voice; technically very surprising it’s like when you hear her you’ll think ‘oh she won’t be able to finish this so grand, her voice is so tiny, but then oh lord, she rocks it at the end Soshana Bean - she tells a story and then in the middle it gets fierce and angry but she doesn’t let go of the story; technically the most stylistic but she has the strongest most unwavering vocals - and made you think of Elphaba at times especially when she pointed her fingers :)
I'm just discovering Shoshana. First time ever laying eyes on her or listening to her. I listened to MacPfee, then Jordon, and then Shoshana, BUT Shoshana blew them all out the water! I did'nt know what I had been missing! Bravo!!! Simply beautiful.
The very first time I saw Waitress, Shoshanna was playing Jenna and I was just blown away. I had never seen her live before only in videos when she was in Wicked and I loved her in that too. But, woo she sang the heck out of all the songs in Waitress. I saw Alison Luff the second time and she was phenomenal and the last time I saw it Sara Bareilles played Jenna and well *falls to knees* I'm not worthy... Haha of COURSE she was freaking amazing! I love how each performer who plays Jenna brings something of their own to the character and makes you love Jenna even more. All of those lovely ladies are so beyond talented❤
FINALLY!!! it was worth the wait just for the moment when the spirit hit ya, and you were like, “YOU BETTA SING!” do. not. sleep. on miss shoshana bean... she is a beast. whenever you’re ready, check out her “dressing room session” rendition of whitney’s “saving all my love for you” with former the voice contestant, avery wilson... you’ll have a, “Y’ALL BETTA SING” moment!
Shoshana's emotional commitment, AS WELL AS her facial expressions were beautifully done. She didn't need to even ACT with her body; her face wore every single aspect of her emotion. Her voice expressed that emotion beautifully without even looking at the video, but when just watching ONLY HER FACE, she just sells it like she is wearing her heart on her sleeve. Hands down the best performance without even needing to see other performances! @MissTara, your reaction to this video made this even better! You were at a loss for words! It made me smile even more, since you are rarely at a loss for words (I say endearingly)! You were so immersed in the beauty of her performance. That was very entertaining watching you speechless for a change! Xoxo, just another appreciative Tarabyte.
Hey Tara, I'm one of the relentless requesters :) I'm glad you see why we wanted to share this with you - we knew you'd appreciate it. Happy holidays to you and yours ❤️
Wooooooooow! How amazing was that?! And something I always say is that if you truly are in your character often your technique is where you want it to be. This singer demonstrated that perfectly 😍👍🏻
Her take on "Stone cold" on the Postmodern Jukebox channel is my favorite version of this song. Loved the emotion she gave. And (for me), the theatrical setup for the video made it even better by adding to the "don't worry, you don't need to care about me" theme and vibe of the song.. Hmm so good!
I had the privilege of hearing this live on Broadway when shoshana starred in waitress, and you think the focus here is strong, it was even more astounding and amazing in person. I don't think there was a dry eye in the theater after her performance, especially after the emotional scene that precedes the song. So glad her arrangement is recorded so I can hear it again. So beautiful!
I love this song and I love Shoshana and its awesome that you can tell that its her singing it. Shes got her own style in the way she sings that sets her apart
The first time I saw this was in this channel... then I went to watch the performance and started CRYING my eyes out enough to wake up my bf. This song hits on so many levels. Shoshana is a goddess from some planet where they SANG
Omg! Thank you thank you thank you! I love an artist that can bring you to tears! What a beautiful performance. I just played this for my three teenage daughters. Two of whom want to get into musical theater. They are absolutely in love right now.
I feel validated by Tara's assertion that this is the best version of this song I've seen. There are lots of suberb versions out there but this one is absolutely stunning.
Alison Luff does an INCREDIBLE version of this song as well!!! I would LOVE for you to review it!! It would be so neat to see you compare the two songs and the stylistically different choices made on one song by two broadway singers!!

Shoshana had me at "lonely" She's literally in a sad place while singing this song. Shoshana has taken the moment in her life that made her feel like this an living it all over again while singing. That can be difficult to do when you've already moved past that moment (or moved forward). She is masterful! I bow down to you Shoshana!
I saw Sho's last performance. As Tara said, this version IS flawless! I agree! It should be noted that her closing night performance of this song was 100 times richer, deeper and heartfelt than it is here. Imagine the heartbreak we felt as an audience. Sheer Perfection! Sho's performance that day is in the top 3 things I seen on stage (the other two being Colm Wilkinson singing Bring Him Home for the first time, and Nobody's Side from the original London production of Chess. I don't recall who the singer was. It was near the end of the run.)
She used to be mine is top five favorite songs all time for me. This song has all kinds of meaning for me. This made me cry and made me remember why this song is so special to me SHOSHANNA just sang 💓 💖 💗 💕 the best version of this song I have ever heard. Thank you.
Okay, Tara, now let’s MAKE IT RAIN with Sho 😏 Also it’s my first ever comment on RUclips. Just to understand how awesome Shoshana is. And you’re doing a very good job !)
Late comment but she gets that emotion from her fiancé that was killed in a hit in run before her run as elphaba I think she carries that with her a lot and that’s where that emotion comes from you could see it when she did her no good deeds as elphaba it reminded her of him.

Sho was BORN to sing. There aren’t enough positive words to describe her stellar vocal abilities. It’s just beyond categorization at this point.
She just owns this entire song and creates a fully vivid picture. It's like you can SEE every scene she sings to. It's incredibly good.
Shoshana is the only singer that can actually snatch my wig in 8 different octaves 😂
Hum? Have you ever heard about Mariah/Whitney/Celine?
@@Rihanna8K i don't really like mariah's lives ... Always nerveus "pitchy" singer .... And here we have shoshana the perfection live shows
You should check out Dimash. His range is INSANE (more than a 6 octave range)

Sooo jealous! I'm afraid to see it live because I don't want to think, " that wasn't as good as Shoshana sang it!"
Shoshana sang “make it rain” live in this beautiful hotel. I suggest watching the video cause It’s an experience and she takes the breath out of you.
Unknown Lover yessss. That performance was an EXPERIENCE
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASEEEEE
I love the above cover, but this is the performance that everyone should be requesting. Shoshana's best performance that I've seen
I asked for this too a while ago!!!! Make it rain is amazing when Sho sings it
Yeeees please watch her Make It Rain cover at Ace Hotel!!!
She is the ultimate vocal actress in contemporary musical theater. If you haven't seen her version of "Stars and the Moon" from "Songs for a New World" it's absolutely incredible. There is not a single beat that passes that doesn't have intention, whether sung or silent. The best.

that version felt more raw and angry and resentful and true.
Oh lord yes this performance. It's like Alison slits an emotional vein on stage & just pours it all out.
