  • In all of rock and roll history, there are few Strats more iconic than Stevie Ray Vaughan's iconic Number One. It's the guitar that single-handedly brought the blues to the forefront of American musical culture in the eighties. It also helped rocked a million faces across America as Stevie set the arenas ablaze with his fretboard pyrotechnics. Now, the Fender Custom Shop has honored Stevie's legacy by giving the SRV Signature Strat a permanent place in their Artist Collection. We are proud to present the SRV Strat, a guitar that we believe captures the essence of his sound and vibe.
Cosmetically, the SRV signature Strat has all the details right: a nitrocellulose lacquer 3-Tone Sunburst that allows the wood to breathe and resonate, the iconic ""SRV"" engraving in the pickguard, and a left-handed vibrato system that allows you to use your elbow to manipulate pitch.
But, the Custom Shop Stevie Ray Vaughan Signature Stratocaster doesn't just look right: it feels right. The neck has a special oval profile that's just a bit thinner on the treble side, which makes those huge bends easier to reach for. To that end, it also comes equipped with jumbo frets and a flat 12"" radius, which makes bending strings effortless. As a result, the SRV's fretboard is a blues player's dream, and it provides a remarkably expressive playing experience.
The real magic, though, lies within the wires of its three Custom Shop hand-wound Texas Special single-coils. They are as hot as a July afternoon in Texas and as spicy as a jalapeno pepper. Their highs scream, their midrange bites, and their lows are robust. But, they also have a vocal quality that lends itself to dynamic, expressive playing. So, they have a little Jekyll and a little Hyde!
We're proud to showcase this lovely instrument, and we know it will inspire you to reach new heights on your fretboard journey!

I do the same thing holding a SRV mod, add all the srv sig riffs into one long rangy peice to hear all the similarities. Especially with the TS mod JRC4558D chips and Thomas organ inductor boards in old crybabys or vox wahs

I have a 93 srv . I realize this is a custom shop / relic. I notice the missing paint and the off color fret dots. The only thing that bugs me about this one is that mine was played a lot. And the paint … white paint on the pickguard that has srv is not worn at all. Looks brand new. Can’t tell by the vid but the srv is actually routed down in the pickguard. On mine it’s all worn off. No white at all. I just figure oils or something neon my hands over time cause it to peel away. Also if the fret dots are yellowing. The pickguard paint should be too. I’m not into relic guitars at all other than naturally played ones. Also not a guy who would buy a guitar and stick it in a case for 20 years thinking it may be worth something some day lol

Played one a few years ago Don't care for the 12" radius or the brittle ass TX Specials and had a baseball bat neck Not for me I love my 65 Strat

You didn’t play one of these custom shop models. If so you must have tiny hands lol
By no means are the necks baseball bat necks. Nicest neck on a strat I’ve ever played. My favourite strat, I’ve owned a least 40.

If I'm not mistaken jimmy Vaughn selected the Texas specials. He claimed that they would make it easier for the average player to get Stevie's tone. Rene Martinez ( Stevie's tech )
Wired the original pups (57s or 58s I believe) to be noiseless and shielded it too. I think the better choice would have been to use the Fender 57/58 era specific vintage noiseless pups Fender used to make. I think that would have more closely replicated the original pups and mods that Mr Martinez made. Is that a new SRV? Mine is several years older and the finish and color is much much nicer.

I just can’t get on board with the texas specials. I’ve had them before and hearing them now they just sound like over compressed solid state. Not knocking the playing at all. I wish they’d put period correct wound pickups in these. Because when you have those with a cranked super reverb that’s when the magic happens.

I had one of the first SRV signatures made, back in the 90's. Gotta say, not my favorite guitar. I just couldn't ever get into the feel. Maybe the custom shop version is better, but they sound about the same. I wound up selling mine.
