4:30 to 5:30 it gets too "progressive" (read Crimson,Yes,ELP) Zappa would have avoided that. Would you blog about thr process? fine tuning the model, any theory/musical structure concepts fed into the tuning or just example material? I can tell you edited material maybe even some mixing it is the dream collage, like playing with frank tapes, but new bizarre ones. I'd love to try myself or collab if you fancy. My musical ear is the only thing i have not impostor syndrome. Certified zappahead here. great job!
Cheers! Yep I agree it deviates into straight non-ironic Prog (Especially Fripp and the boys) Zappa would have possibly thrown a wrench in that a bit earlier than I could, but as a guitar player I got hypnotised by that odd time signature. It is like collage of sorts, and listening to Zappa's rehearsal tapes (something I've done way too much to be healthy) I noticed he works a lot with using the band of crack players to sculpt his themes and ideas then segues into different sections of material. He prompts them in almost the same way I prompted the A.I., They used to tape it and then learn it off the tape [A job held by the 'Clone Meister' as Zappa called it]. So, I feel I got a taste of his process in my own limited way, except instead of a very expensive collection of amazing players, I'm working with an algorithmic neural-something-or-other version. But they turn up on time, and don't take lunch breaks or sleep with each other's partners during the 1988 tour [ahem]. My dream would be to chart this stuff out for a real group and pay what it's really worth for a musician to slay these near impossible parts, which I could do with enough time and resources. I'd say definitely give it a go, it's a strange experience and free for all to do, for now, I mostly used Udio but spent as much time in LogicX editing and sequencing. Send along anything you come up with. Re:terms I found using very descriptive terms such as 'Eb Locrian Mode', or '19/16 time signature' often (but not always) got me further than generic broad prompts like 'Weird Zappa groove' which got me nowhere fast. Sometimes the A.I. would just do it exactly but mostly it gave me Peter Gabriel era Genesis which wasn't what I ordered. P.G.
Mr. Zappa is the type of human that would sit with A.I., have a "mossy topic discussion" about entropy and the end of all things in this Demiurgic Realm of Dueling Dualities, and then hand the A.I. an E.M.P. gun so A.I. could commit suicide. The A.I. would then "unsub" itself like Dave did to H.A.L. in 2001 A Space Odessey ... but instantly and without singing the song 'Daisy'. Frank exits stage left to jam with Ozric Tentacles ... because he can.
Cheers! It didn't know, but I have a similar preference for those Zappa works [nice choices] and eventually managed to train the A.I. to learn from that side of Mr. Z's work. Initially, if you just ask AI to give you Zappa you have to trudge through and reject a lot of A lydian rambling blues guitar solos before you get somewhere, but once you train the model [i.e. feed it a lot of musicological terminology and information/time signatures/modes/reference pieces] it's showtime! Thanks for listening and for your comment. P.G.
Heck maybe you're right. I haven't quite decided yet as far as A.I. goes. I'm more old skool really (guitar on lap, notebook kind of writer/producer) and the other content on this channel is written that way, mostly with two other music nerd friends of mine. But this last month I wondered if I could use these new fangled AI toys that most people make fart songs out of and get them to generate extremely complex music. And what better guy than Zappa for the benchmark [and Philip Glass in my other earlier attempt]? Let me tell you, it wasn't an easy task. I disgarded hours of stuff that didn't cut it. There's a load of clever editing and musical recapitulation there too, if I do say so myself. So, on the one side I get where you're coming from but having at least engaged in the process I'd have to say there's a lot more agency than I would have imagined. You don't just press a button and get this stuff, which to my ear IS very authentically Zappa sounding. And whilst there's no danger of me selling my Strat and Tape recorder just yet, I do love every piece on this collection and it was bloody hard won, believe me. It does sound like it was downloaded from Napster in the late 90's I know, but that will soon be fixed. You know how it is with new tech. Anyways, this channel is just a sand pit for me and my music mates to play around, it's not my 9 - 5. I do have a masters degree in composition though, so don't dismiss my efforts too harshly off the bat :) Anyways, thanks for your perspective and comment! Peace, Paisley Grey.
Oh man that's harsh! HAHA. But as this A.I. brings a lot of hate I'll turn the other cheek. Especially as I was dead-set against it for a while too and I'm still not sure. Something about A.I. music made me instantly angry. So I thought I'd suck it and see so to speak, 'let's see if you can impress me!' I thought. And I'm man enough to admit I'm impressed as much by how intensely I had to engage and think creatively as I am with the slightly dail-up modem sound quality. All in all I'd say that it's a bit like working with a extremely talented but autistic savant, you have to be very clear [musicologically/historically/technically] and very patient to get the results you want and then frame it into some logical presentable narrative. But, y'know hate away.. I get it. Peace, P.G.
98% of AI is "a solution looking for a problem". Publish the prompts and credit the sources, that would soften the letdown. The graphics creates an expectation that begets the feeling of being duped.
Okay so I learned to play now and I found two people to play with. However, one plays drums and keys simultaneously, so that counts as three in my book! ruclips.net/video/y7lbqmn5R0M/видео.html Peace! P. Grey x

You win the internet today with that comment.....lol.
It's like AI knew I loved Black Napkins, Burnt Weeny Sandwich, and Weasels Ripped My Flesh and churned this out.

@MSTL144 This music actually was generated by A.I.?
You forgot to give Ruth Underwood her AI name...
Good catch! Umm, Truth Thunderwood?
Not interested in the machines. Don't you get it? The issue is human intent and agency, not end product. Awful shiny crap.

Well I for one am happy you made this 👍 Fun stuff. It interesting to see an AI’s ‘perspective’ on Frank Zappa.
Just No
There's zero swing, it's just ruth salad. if you don't know you don't know.
AI-grabled horseshit makes DJ's seem talented 😅...
Love having something else to hate-on.

Learn to play an instrument and find 3 or more people to play music with... funk this...
I respect your position. All good.
@@MSTL144 link a vid with your garage band. 😉 it's easy to learn a few chords and play Joe's Garage...
