Interesting design challenge. It seems to me that nobody can change gears while getting tossed around like a rag doll, so maybe try some kind of a CVT. That last berm before the summit is a killer, basically a straight vertical. Not sure how you get past that even if you were driving both wheels and got your weight ahead of the front wheel... 🤔

awesome!!! would seem to me that if they re-built the seat much lower they could more easily balance the bike when they're on the extreme vertical hill sections
@5.25 That engine is just nuts! Aside from the drill touches, it's a water cooled engine with no water cooling lol. Also, welded casing joints because that engine is scrap soon lol. Fantastic!
They don't really need a radiator, water takes a lot of energy to warm up, but the tradeoff is sloppy clearance and damage when cold. So I'm guessing they warm them a bit before starting, but it's going to take at least a few minutes to get the water up to boiling even with these monster engines.

Rarely do I ever see someone make it to the top anymore. That's some scary stuff. I sure wouldn't do it lol. Be too afraid of popping up, then rolling down the hill with my bike close behind, slamming down on me as soon as I came to a stop. It sucks that video footage and pictures rarely do courses like this or offroad trails in general justice, concerning how steep they actually are in person vs. what it looks like on a screen. Was on a trail in my FJ last month and a few people captured pictures on a steep incline with large boulders and massive dips, but the pictures looked like I was nearly level and the obstacles were small lol. The only tell was that in one pic, my front right tire was off the ground.
An electric drivetrain could be very beneficial for them. You only need a very small battery and you can place it anywhere to improve the center of gravity. The percition of electric engines could be used for better traction control settings. Maybe coupled with a gyroscope to prevent backflips.

Back in the 70s as a teen we would watch a known hill climb on a lake. Nothing like this climb but rapidly got steep with the last 5 feet being almost vertical. Red moist clay with deep worn previous unsuccessful grooves. Good ol boys drinking beer would get their heavy ass Harleys and after enough beer and dares would end up destroying them. Perched on top were usually a couple girls flashing boobs to encourage them. Then one day some guy on a Yamaha showed up "brave" and despite the boos and taunts proceeded to blast right up and over the lip. Turned around and dropped back in!! Waiting for him to be pulled apart instead the bikers started pouring beers on him and the guy was a celebrity for 5 minutes.

Such a damn fine line between keeping momentum and control.
