    I got the Ferret for Christmas. It was one of my first Cobra vehicles. The articulated machine gun and steering really made it special. It still tops my list of favorite Cobra vehicles!!

    I always understood that the "cannon" on the ferret is a recoilless rifle, or some kind of anti vehicle rifle. As a kid ai just assumed it was a laser gun.
    I'm sure there is at least one model of recoilless rifle that can be put on a large ATV. An anti tank rifle definitely would could be mounted on it. Of course to use them with any effectiveness you would need to park the ferret and use them dismounted. For the early concepts of Cobra that was about insurgency and terrorism this works well. A small agile vehicle you can use off road to transport an anti vehicle gun.
    Jeeps have been mounted with recoilless rifles in WW2 and Korea.

  • @dmathiass

    The autocannon could be ranging from 20 to 40mm. it would have a significant recoil at 40mm but manageable. It's probably though an automatic recoilless rifle. The large hose could be venting the excess propellant gas downwards, below the Ferret. That with the big muzzle break may diminish the recoil. Also, in the 1950's the French Army tested Vespa scooters with recoilless rifles for paratroopers, which may have been an inspiration for that weapon. Don'nt forget that many Cobra operatives had on their filecards mentions to French Army and Foreign Legion, so it's not that far fetched. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vespa_150_TAP

      @MrKersey 4 года назад +1

      Recoilless gun was my call, too. It would give enough firepower to the vehicle and still make it stable, just like M40 106mm recoilless gun mounted on a Jeep.

    Awesome review as always. Cool vehicle I remember as a kid somebody had this and we didn't know what ATV stood for, god that was so long ago anyway I'll put my 2 cents in and say I really love the brighter mailaway one the best, somebody on FB put a photo of a custom army green one with the guns painted dark grey it looked really good

  • @samfrito
    @samfrito 4 года назад +1

    Yeah Timmer! He does an excellent job! And I get his jokes. The Ferret is awesome, one of my first favorites and for a vehicle that cost less than most Subway subs today you get a rolling (on real wheels) vehicle that was closer to real world than most Cobra weaponry. Glad they didn't slap a tow hook on it.

    This is one of my first vehicles. When I was a kid, imagine the double sided missiles as launching sideways and called them sidewinders... Also the cannon, since it has a hose, we assume it was a big flamethrower.

    In the Sunbow animated series episode " Lights, Camera, Cobra" Zartan refers to the Ferret as the "Python cycle". I am guessing that when this episode was written Hasbro was going to call it the Python as HCC 788 mentioned at the start of the review. Despite not owning one in my childhood, I must say it is a nice looking vehicle that you can use with any Cobra character you want to.

    Really enjoyed this review. Personally I love the Swampmasher. It’s my favorite vehicle. It was my first vehicle and I had a lot of fun playing. Despite the fact that it doesn’t have as many bells and whistles as larger vehicles, and can’t hold many figures, I truly liked the fact that it is small and manned by a single figure. I liked the idea of the lone operative going on solo mission with only his vehicle and his weapons, and the Swampmasher worked great, especially with its wheel setup that allowed for all terrain navigation. I typically had either Muskrat or Storm Shadow V2 Manning it. I really hope your review the Swampmasher!

    The missiles on the FERRET were weird, but I always imagined each of them as being able to split and launch forwards AND backwards as 2 independent missiles, thusly, instead of having 2 missiles, it had 4. That's how I approached the issue anyway...

    For some reason I can imagine HCC going to a ATV store and demanding a dark blue ATV.
    HCC is right Cobra never showed any concern for their operatives safety. Then again GIJOE barely showed concern either

    This is or was a great vehicle , as well as a nice army builder for Cobra. The steering was a nice attribute and added alot to the play value. I've always considered it Xamot and Tomax' vehicle, but really any Cobra is fine. I'm surprised you hadn't reviewed this great vintage vehicle yet. GI Joe really didnt need the Tiger Paw version, but Tiger Force was a way for Hasbro to repaint and spin the vehicles it had already molded. I'm already subscribed to Timmer and have been for quite awhile now. I love his comic book reviews they're quite funny and entertaining. Best of luck to you both. Cant wait for Cobra Convergence!

    Has anyone else experienced problems with the black rubber parts having a chemical reaction with the blue plastic parts of their Ferret? Long time contact between the two results in the blue plastic melting where it contacts with black rubberised black parts, the wheel rims seem to suffer the most.

    Not a fan of the ATV as a weapon of war, because of the obvious lack of armor. This model was beautifully done, however, and the extra addition of rubber wheels really sells it. I wish the VAMP and other vehicles had rubber tires too.

    Why would Cobra have a vehicle called a Ferret? Ferrets hunt cobras. That should have been a Joe vehicle.
