Awesome video and the more I watched the better it got. I have to say that I laughed so hard every time you chatted with the 'co-pilot'. Hahaha. Gold! But I am sold, this is an awesome rendition of the H160 and cant wait to fly it.
Hi, I like your enthusiasm regarding rotary-wing flying. I'm a retired ATPL rotary-wing, CFI, IFR + Commercial Fixed-wing. I enjoy your in-depth flights. One comment, don't raise your landing gear until 1. you have achieved translational flight, 2. >300ft AGL so you have time to get your gear down should you have an engine failure because you cannot hover on one engine. Cheers.
Hi Tom many thanks for that and you are absolutely right about the gear. I keep forgetting that! I love getting into helicopter flying. It is something I haven’t done in the real world and it’s great fun doing it in this sim plus it’s a nee challenge for me. Always learning!
@@Dreamsofwings Sorry to dash your hopes, but it absolutely did not disappoint ;) I think I will take the H145 to Rome in a minute. From a rational point of view, the H160 is not so different from the H145. But it just looks so sleek and sexy that I will buy it the moment it is released!
Couldn’t understand your comment and then saw what I had written! Have corrected it now to what it should have said! My apologies! Glad you enjoyed it! The H160 has a slightly different feel and the extra automation adds a new level to it.
OEI Hi and Low selection is the amount of TQ the single engine will provide until the NR droops. On the EC135 there is a selection button on the collective that allows you to cycle between the two. OEI Hi is usually limited to 30 seconds and Low is limited to 2 minutes. Depending on obstacle clearance ahead when you have the engine failure will determine whether you use 30 second power or just 2 minute power
Bit late to the party, but I can add some information regarding operation of this aircraft's predecessor(?), the AS365N3 which uses the OEI Hi and Low system. Slight differences between Class 1 and Class 2 profiles, but OEI high is automatically selected when the FADEC detects the engine failure. As mentioned already, it gives you 30 seconds at the engine's highest OEI power rating, limiting available power for you so that you only need to concentrate on selecting the appropriate NR. On a clear area profile after TDP for example, you would then select OEI Low once you hit VTOSS and have started climbing. Now you're into the 2 minute rating which allows for climb to 200' and acceleration to Vy. Once you hit Vy and climbing (or if the OEI light is flashing) you would hit the button again to drop into MCP. @@Dreamsofwings
I hope they bundle the action pack and the initial version together, as I don't feel like paying for the helicopter essentially twice. It's why I never did it for the 145.

What a great video on what seems to be a very cool sim addon. Can't wait to get my hands on one of those. I do hope that on the release version they fix the main rotor, someone seemes to have hovered a tad too close to the hangar wall. :-)
So when a helicopter like this has wheels, can you land and take off like a fixed wing using a rolling start? How often does that happen? I've seen them being taxied on wheels...
Normally with heavy loads pilots do the rolling takeoffs. The movement of the air over the rotor disc will give extra lift. There is a maximum Groundspeed limitation which you cannot exceed. Hence the rolls are normally short and into wind.
If you change out your cpu, it will get rid of the stutter and eye strain without having to shell out for a new gpu. I just got a 7800x3d and it made everything buttery smoothe, even running star citizen.
@Dreamsofwings maybe from recording at the same time. It is just apparent when you change your camera angle. That's why I thought i was the cpu, because it still scrolls very smoothly. Thumbs up for the video as well.

Jiminy Crickets, Can't wait for this to hit the shelves. Looks like they nailed this but I'll wait for you to do a test flight before I buy it. Maybe they'll have the collective fixed (the issue you pointed out in this video). I'm also wondering if I should wait to buy this AFTER I have upgraded my Intel CPU from a 12900K to the 14900K using my same motherboard z690 Asus Rog Strix "E" DDR5? What's your opinion?
I think the collective is down to my settings and not the H160 so I wouldn’t let that put you off. My CPU is an I7 8700k so you’ve got a better one than I used for it already!
I want to see something like this fly an ILS, for hilarity. I've seen the big Sikorsky S92's come in and out of Broome and they fly those approaches like an aeroplane. With the auto-take off, I'm kind of surprised there isn't an autoland feature or a land assist... or is there and I have just forgotten? Been quite a while since I've flown the H145.
At 1:16:26 the AP actually went to ALT mode to fly level at 50 feet on the RA. That was just before you took over manually. After flying an ILS the H160 will do a fly level at 50 feet by itself.

Yes in theory although my understanding is it is a very short roll. I guess you might use a rolling take off if you were heavy maybe.
Normally with heavy loads pilots do the rolling takeoffs. The movement of the air over the rotor disc will give extra lift. There is a maximum Groundspeed limitation which you cannot exceed. Hence the rolls are normally short and into wind.
Also useful if your power limited when recovering and have runway available, you can do a roll on landing.
