- People often ask me what the difference is between a funeral, a memorial service, and a celebration of life. Well, here's the answer.
0:11 What makes a Funeral - a funeral is when the remains are present (casket or urn).
0:24 Variations on the Funeral - there is a range of formality for funerals.
1:07 Difference between Memorial and Celebration - there isn't one; a memorial service and a celebration of life are the same service with a different name.
1:57 Purpose of all three services - for Christians, the purpose is to bear witness to the resurrection. It's a worship service and the focus is on Jesus more than the deceased.

Thank you for this information and explanation of true meaning of a funeral.
You're very welcome!
Thank you for this information and clarification
You're welcome!
Wow, that's a plus up for me as an event cinematograph.
celebration of life sounds warmest/happiest
Thank you
You're welcome!
for what? lying?
👍🏾👍🏾. The only thing I would encourage you to look up, when you feel it's right, is the origins of the word "God" and also of the name "Jesus." In my research I would say the concepts are unchangeably correct, but the names being used to express them are a considerable distance away from their original intended power.
You lost me at the god part! What do we call it if you don’t believe in god and death does win?
No worries 🙂 The services would still be called the same things, just without needing to acknowledge God, Jesus, or the resurrection 👍
Pastor Dave, good information but a funeral with a casket present is not the same as any other type of service. Cremated remains in an urn aren’t the same as natural human remains in a casket. Just observe people’s behavior around both.
Oh I agree. Casket vs urn are two very different services in that sense. Broadly speaking though, they both fall under the category of funeral.
