    BYU fan here. We won a few games that required the ball to bounce our way. We lost the same way. I like that the coach and team doesn’t dwell on what could have been but is looking to improve. I also believe that this season will greatly improve BYU’s recruiting. And we have a coach that seems to learn and improve as he goes. It feels like a bright future.

    The most satisfying aspect of this game from the BYU perspective, was that BYU was better at every position but two. The talent level is getting where it needs to be if we want to be contenders every year.

    What gets me is that, like the host in this video, people keep saying that BYU was just a couple of plays from a 4 or 5 loss season, BUT IGNORE that they were also literally two plays and a few yards from AN UNDEFEATED season!
    The Big 12 is a "meat grinder" conference. That's why the scores were so close. The margins are very thin.

    I can’t stand players who excessively celebrate (for ex. dancing) after rather routine plays. So I had to laugh when the CU defender started a disco dance after an incomplete pass only to find out that he had been called for defensive holding or pass interference. Loved that!
    From what I saw, BYU was better prepared, better coached, better disciplined and wanted to win this game more. I was impressed with BYU and unimpressed with CU.
    Congrats BYU! From an ND fan.

    This was one of the strangest games I’ve ever seen. The thing that stands out to me is how well coached BYU was. Giving that coaching staff an extra week to prepare made a huge difference and it exposed how much better they were coached compared with Colorado. The old adage about winning football games by running the ball and stopping the run was certainly true with 180 yards versus 2. How often have you seen a defense so dominant that you can throw three pics in the red zone and still crush the other team? Most of Colorado’s offensive stats happened with less than 3 minutes left in the game and BYU leading 36 to 7. Despite BYU playing pretty ugly in the last several games, they could end up being the best team in the Big 12 depending on how ASU does in a few days.

  • @Iamghostwriter1
    @Iamghostwriter1 2 дня назад +4

    All the Colorado hype got exposed. Prime did not coach up his team. Too occupied with the hype.
    VS
    BYU was disrespected from the start. They took it as locker room empowerment in four aspects of the game. Offense, Defense, Special Teams and Coaching. Don't ever think Sitake felt any sort of way. I think he felt the disrespect, he gave his team reason to be outstanding. It showed up on the field. His excitement was real. His words mean something to his players. He's still a humble man, but not a pushover.
    Congrats Cougs on a season to be remembered.
    Maybe they get respect next year in the polls unlike they did starting this year.
    Big 12 has a mountain to climb getting any kind of respect. The media pundits' bias is real. It showed up in spades this year.

  • @mjulkunen
    @mjulkunen 3 дня назад +7

    Drake Toll talks like this season is something new for BYU... it's not. Yes, the Cougars are in the Big12, but the expectations for this program haven't changed from the days of LaVell Edwards and the WAC. Cougar fans expect BYU to have several 10+ win seasons every decade and finish ranked in the top 25 about half of the time. When the Cougars have an "off year" the expectation is that they still go to a bowl game. At the beginning of this season, the expectation of BYU fans was that the Cougars get back to a bowl - they far exceeded that.
    I've been following BYU football since before LaVell Edwards. My expectations for next season are 8+ wins. The ball has to bounce your way to get 10+ wins. A CFP spot or national championship is a dream... not an expectation for a program like BYU. The only thing that has BYU administration considering a coaching change is back-to-back losing seasons.

    • @dostacos1
      @dostacos1 2 дня назад +1

      Tbh it’s hard not to argue that was BYU’s best season in history. Sure BYU has had great seasons, but they’ve never had the depth to win against the caliber of schedule that they just played. Not saying that some of those teams in the 80s or the 96 team couldn’t have, then just never really had the chance, but this year’s team did something that no other BYU team has ever come close to, winning 9 P5 games, most of those in a conference setting where the games really mattered.

    • @mjulkunen
      @mjulkunen 2 часа назад

      @@dostacos1 P4/P5 is overrated. Even for the best, most deep, and most talented team, it takes some lucky bounces to win a national championship. If you look at the best BYU teams in history, you will realize that those teams had many talented players that ended up in the NFL. If you have those guys on your team, you'll find plenty of success at every level.

    Colorado's glaring weakness this season was their inability to dominate the trenches. Both the offensive and defensive lines lacked the size and strength to compete effectively against stronger opponents like BYU. This became painfully evident as the Cougars physically overpowered the Buffaloes, showcasing superior size, strength, and speed.
    The age disparity was also a significant factor. Many of BYU's defensive linemen were mature, experienced players in their mid-twenties, some even married with families. This maturity and physical development translated into a clear advantage against Colorado's younger and less experienced linemen.
    Coach Prime clearly recognizes the need for significant upgrades to the offensive and defensive lines. Acquiring more talented and physically imposing players in these positions will be crucial for Colorado to compete at a higher level and challenge the top teams in their conference.

    We need to be HONEST about DEION Sanders.
    WHY was BYU so much better prepared for this BOWL game than CU was?
    FACT: Coach Prime has only won 1 out of his last three bowl games going back to Jackson state. (Correction, Deion has NOT won any bowl games.)
    FACT: The responsibility for for having your team prepared falls on the head coach. Yes, there is an OC and DC, but they answer to the head coach.
    FACT: Coach Prime has allowed Shedeur to hurt his team by holding onto the ball TOO LONG and NOT THROWING IT AWAY. RUNNING BACKWARD 20 or more yards and getting sacked will NOT FLY IN THE NFL.
    FACT: As terrible as CU was before Coach Prime took over, the run game was actually much better. CU has had had great to very good RBs in the past.
    FACT: Lack of any type of consistent meaningful run game is a problem. Passing wins games, but a run game WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS. Any credible coach will admit to this.
    FACT: Severe lack of TEAM DISCIPLINE. Colorado ends the 2024 season as the most penalized team in the BIG 12.
    WHAT WE DON'T KNOW
    We don't know if (OC Shurmur) was just calling plays to pad Shedeur stats and make him happy VS having terrible running backs and a really bad run blocking OL. In games where CU made an a decent effort to run the ball, the RB's were not world beaters, but they ran well enough to take pressure of of Shedeur.
    PROS:
    1. Deion is GREAT at promoting and getting media exposure.
    2. DEION has a done a VERY GOOD JOB at getting better players through the portal and some out of HS.
    CONS:
    1. Deion is NOT good at clock management.
    2. Deion is NOT good at having his team prepared in BOWL games.
    3. In inadequate emphasis put on the importance of a solid run game.

    I personally wasn't surprised it was a blowout. I expected BYU to win close. But blowout was always on the table. It's not like Colorado hadn't been blown out this year.
    I always thought Colorado was good but also a tad overrated. If you look back on their schedule there were plenty of warning signs for this. Barely getting past North Dakota St. Getting blown out by a very average Nebraska team. Looking sluggish vs G5 Colorado St. Splitting their two games against the best teams they played in the regular season (Kansas St and Baylor). Getting blown out by Kansas.
    Also and I want everyone to remember this... Shiny records are always suspect when teams have the schedule luck of avoiding the best in their conference.
    Indiana got lucky and avoided Oregon, Penn St, Illinois and Minnesota this season. The only top Big 10 team they faced was Ohio St who murdered them. But they had a shiny 11-1 record after beating up a cake nonconference and the bottom of the Big 10 so the committee put them in the CFP and to no surprise they got dog walked by a more battle tested team.
    Same thing happened here to Colorado. They were lucky to avoid BYU, Arizona St, Iowa St and even teams like TCU and Texas Tech on their regular season schedule. And that helped their record look better than their actual strength probably was. Then they get put in the Alamo Bowl and get dog walked by a much better much more battle tested BYU team.
    Keep this in mind for games going forward.
    One that comes to mind is the quarterfinal between Georgia and Notre Dame. Now Notre Dame has beaten good teams like Indiana and Army. And I don't expect them to get demolished by Georgia. I think it will be a game. But Notre Dame hasn't seen anyone like Georgia this year. Georgia has seen several teams on the level of Notre Dame.
