    concerning the "thigh support" question, it's mainly used for touring purposes. Airlines have found that by adding more length on the leg, it helps support your weight better so that your back won't hurt during long flights. Simply put it helps support your bodies weight to help reduce weight your back needs to support in a straight position while sitting.

      I heard on long roadtrips it's really nice

      Hear, hear! For long freeway slogs I figure the combination of adaptive cruise control, a very quiet cabin, and the extending thigh support in my Kia Sorento adds at least an hour between rest stops. Maybe millennials don't experience the same benefits but we middlennials (and older) drivers REALLY like those features.

    • @rockervdrive
      @rockervdrive 5 лет назад +14

      I've also personally experienced much less or no 'numb bum' on long road trips with seats like those. It makes sense since your upper body weight is being distributed over a larger surface area.

    • @zaitcev0
      @zaitcev0 5 лет назад +16

      And BTW, only it works for the opposite of "freakishly tall people", e.g. for shorties who can actually put weight on that support. For tall people, like Jakub, the knees are too high and the thighs cannot benefit from thigh support.

    • @MrGreatnessisme
      @MrGreatnessisme 5 лет назад +8

      After driving a car without the extending thigh support, you do feel the difference. There is considerably more fatigue in ur lower back and legs when you drive long distance without it.

    I've been having my XC40 for about four months... great, amazing safety features in it are exactly like what I expected, and running smoothly in addition. But it might not be what most 20s young people, who might be buying cars for exterior and speed, want cuz I heard so many people in my dad's age appreciating and recommending the car (my dad is 56 now).

    So glad you reviewed this car. I just sold my XC-70 after 11 years and I miss it so much. I love the fun interior and just so you know. The seat extension is there for people who have longer legs. If your on long trips tilt the seat back slightly extend the support and you really can tell a difference. This might be more used for men than women unless they have the longer legs and prefer the feel of the position. For just around town...it’s no big deal.

    Reason why I love thigh supports in new car seats: I had knee surgery years and years ago so its uncomfortable to support my leg just on my foot. These thigh supports they're putting in cars now make it super ultra comfortable for me to drive long distances. I actually found the seat in that redesigned Lincoln Continental to be one of the most comfortable car seats I've ever sat in.

    Re the adaptive cruise control not stopping for cars that are already stopped - that’s a limitation of all radar cruise controls. They are meant to work with moving traffic. If you read the manuals, they all warn about coming up on stopped traffic and the system being not able to recognize and respond properly.

    The eco mode tachometer is showing the transmission disengaging when the dials move away from each other and re-engaging when the two dials move back to the same position:
    According to Volvo when you're in eco mode: "ECO-coast operates at speeds over 31 mph (50 km/h). When you release the accelerator pedal, the transmission disengages and the engine speed drops to idle which eliminates the engine braking. This lets the car maintain its momentum by coasting at its current speed and reduces the amount of fuel being used."

It allows your legs to be so well supported to the point that you don’t even need to flex your legs to use the pedals, you just flex with your calves.

On top of that, I just lost my lower left leg in a motorcycle accident and the thigh extender was a godsend, as it supports my residual limb. In my truck (2018 Ram), I have to use a pillow to support my leg. Obviously this is not the norm, but it does answer your question!

    Always a great review from the straight pipes!
    Bought this vehicle is July of 2018. Black, T5 momentum. I have a love/hate relationship with it. There are so many relatable things in this video that I’m experiencing. Pilot assist works 95% of the time but definitely tells you a lot to put your hands on the wheel even when you’re driving. I have to take control sometimes because it’ll drift over the lines or reads an entirely different line and will jerk you left or right. Kinda scary sometimes if you’re not paying attention. My main issue with the vehicle is the amount of times it’s been in the service shop. First thing was when taking delivery battery was dead and had to be replaced (due to sitting in California for months waiting for care by Volvo) next issue I was having was the passenger door handle wasn’t locking and when trying to unlock using that door handle, all the doors would lock and unlock all crazy. One time the vehicle locked the keys inside of itself causing the alarm to go off for hours until I had to disconnect the battery. Had to get the vehicle towed since vehicle wouldn’t start and Volvo had to replace a module. The door handle issue took me to the dealership 5 different times until Volvo finally approved a new door handle. Very frustrating. Also had an issue with the sunroof shuttering when shutting. Volvo had to send an engineer out to reposition clips in the track of the sunroof. That issue took me to the dealership 3 times. My vehicle is currently in the shop because of a message I was getting saying power steering was reduced. This issue has taken me to Volvo twice and I was told when the vehicle was being painted there was overspray that caused the wires to corroded and now they have to replace the power steering rack. I feel like no one knows how to fix the vehicle so just getting the run around. Overall a good vehicle, quick, lots of storage, and pretty decent gas mileage. Just buy a 2020 version and not a 2019 like I did.

      I also trust that Volvo will iron out the quality issues with handles and roof, but fixing the pilot assist may be asking for too much.

    2 thumbs up for thigh support. 👍 👍 I've got the new '18 XC60 Inscription and I have the thigh support fully extended. The best way I can describe it is when you find a really nice, plush leather couch with a deep seat and you throw yourself way back. I just feel like I'm fully supported and embraced. I also find that when driving long distances it takes the pressure point off the mid-thigh and I have seat all the way to the bend of my knee. Feels way more natural.
    So yeah, weird rant over lol.

    I think for the eco gauge, that other little needle is what you need to follow to maximize fuel efficiency. The further you're away from it, the more inefficient you are. This is similar to airplane gauges where something called the "flight director" shows you where you need to be and you have to follow it.

    I can't get past the fact that this looks like the offspring of a Jeep Compass and 2019 RAV4 - maybe it's the black-roof theme they all have.
    The front has the most style, but also looks like Sam The Eagle from The Muppets (Google him)
    Sure there's tech in the car, but statistically this will end up at, or very near the bottom of the reliability charts.
    ~$52k +HST is just too much to consider this any value, given the insane depreciation and reliability issues that are only a couple years away.
    ESPECIALLY for millennials.

    The eco mode gauge .. the closer you can get the floating dot to the digital line the more economical you’re being. Get it to color in between GREEN and you are really doing well. The further they are away from each other without that, you are not driving to save fuel. Basically . You’ll see as the speed limit changes and the car reads the signs, the dot indicator will fluctuate .
