Really loved this overview of great modern sounds! And the shoutout to session guitar crew. Betting Brent Mason and Tom Bukovac are all over these tracks
Thanks Hank!! Yea I've noticed on RUclips everyone is talking about the guitar gods and how awesome they sound on the records - but country and particularly those session guys like Brent Mason, Tom Bukovac (though he's rightfully so gained a cult following of his own now), Guthrie Trapp, etc. dont get enough love for the amazing work they do. Hopefully we can help change that
Great vid dude. The hard thing about modern country guitar is the guys making the records are unsung hired guns, and the tones are often dialed in quickly for pay-by-the-hour sessions and are long since forgotten (unless documented on a recall sheet somewhere). Because these guitarists don't get a lot of public spotlight, their tones and musical genius often flies by unnoticed under the pop-esque cliche lyrics and smooth sultry voices of the metro-dude "country" singers. Premier Guitar just did a rig rundown with Brother's Osborne--def check it out! Btw, MY fav country guitar tone? Brad Paisley yo.
This. Yea the hired gun scene and quick turn around doesn’t really allow for signature tones unless the artist plays like Brad Paisley, John Osborne or Keith Urban. But hopefully videos like this help get their names out there more or at least more curiosity about these unsung heroes. I’ll definitely be checking out the Brothers Osborne rig run down - love a good John Bollinger rundown. And yes - Brad Paisley for the win!
Tele, in to a Fender amp, clean, but ready to break up. Deluxe Reverb, Super? Nice compressor pedal helping out just a little, a few great dirt boxes, Hotwired is my current fav. A little slap, some nice verb and or trem from the amp when possible, with a few extra pedals on tap, MXR Phaise 90 when you gotta bust out some Waylon. Throw a nice boost in to kick up your solos and you're great.
Definitely some single coils preferably a telecaster, a clean amp with some compression and delay. Amp doesn't necessarily have to be fender but that is classic choice, but as long as it's got some good clean headroom. I do like the Midland tone, definitely has that 90s country kind of vibe with a mixture of 60s/70s depending on the song. I guess I like that Brent Mason, Albert Lee, Danny gatton kind of vibe.
Yeah buddy! And yes I would say the Andean tone is similar to the Bros. Osborne tone - definitely on the more rocking side. Jason Aldeans guitar players rock 5150s, Peavys and Budda amps so definitely on the Marshall side of things. I would say Aldean is a bit more ambient - think heavier reverbs, delays and a touch of phaser - especially on the rhythm intro to something like Tattoos on this Town
Great video man. Gonna put you on the spot tho.. I want to create a modern country tone. That of say Brad Paisley or Luke Bryan... I have an Ibanez Gio and a Line 6 Spider amp.. no pedals so what settings would you pick to get a more contemporary tone? Thanks for your time and have a great new year! 😉
Hey dude! I would say definitely say the clean mode - a lot of what Brad Paisley does is clean or slightly over driven and a lot of that sound comes from the technique
Do any modern players dial in those old tones from the David Allen Coe and Waylon records with that phaser? It’s phaser I’m thinking of right, or flanger? 🤷♂️
Howdy, came here as a Helix user looking for a fat modern country tone. You had my attention mentioning Aldean, Gilbert, Combs, Bros Oz. Love to see a more in depth video for this dirty fatty country tone using les pauls or SG's for the meat and potato stuff.....no treble twangy slapback echo.
Hey Scott a brothers Osborne is currently in the works and so is Keith Urban which does have twangy slapback but also far dirty rockin tone. I’ll add the more rocking country tone to the pipeline!
Know what you mean “not country at all “IMO this modern stuff shares more DNA with southern boogie, than Tammy Winett ie skynnerd ,Blackfoot ,black oak Arkansas…go comment ya all

Love the silver tele with the roasted neck! Is that custom?
Technically, yes.
The body is from Fender and the neck is from Warmoth. Then i put in the Brent Mason pickups and found som gold hardware :)

Quite a variety these days. Good showcase video.
Yeah David the country tones these days really run the gamut

I hear a few songs that use it. I think it’s more of a tremolo pedal.
Great Channel👍
Thank you my friend!
Thank you for sharing, Not my kind of country, looking for something more traditional on a Telecaster
Yeah of course.
That’s something I’m planning on doing in the near future
Dig it!!!
Thank you my friend
Colt, can you do one of these for the Texas Country/Red Dirt scene.
Yeah man for sure!
🤘
Bakersfield sound for me
That’s the tone!!

I love that idea. I’ll add it to the hopper.
@@ryansnydercg In case you decide not to make it I’ll pay you to make it if you’re interested. I need their tone for my gigs🙏

@@ryansnydercgwhen will the Florida Georgia line tone video release ?
Stapleton usually plays a jazz master not a jaguar
Yeah I slipped up on that one
I thought so I was like wait what
What matters is his taste, I mean wow
The tones are mostly great but the music sucks.
Ha thanks
I hate pop country
