  • This video is a tribute to my frame drum teacher, the late Layne Redmond, author of the book When the Drummers Were Women.
It's Layne's birthday. She would have been 71 years old today, 8/18/23.
Seeds of reclamation and threads of inspiration and connection began to germinate in me when I encountered Layne and her teachings.
The lessons continue to open, unfurl and bloom with each passing year.
It's taken me a lifetime to nurture these strands of learning into a tapestry of artistry and understanding.
The potent teachings about the ancient myths and rhythms of the sacred drums and the people and cultures that played them continue to inform my worldview and inspire my body, heart, mind, and soul.
It's always been about more than just learning to play the frame drum.
The path of the sacred drum is about nature and culture, connection, creativity, self-expression, passion, sensuality, bravery, story, myth, nature's rhythms, the cosmological cycles, the Great Mystery, and more...
Yes, it seems there has been quite a lot of meaning assigned to the subject of the frame drum! Lol!
But again, it's about more than just a drum...
It's about the human need for ritual and ceremony, trance and flow, music and rhythm and connection, as medicine for the heart-mind, body, and soul...
...And that still doesn't cover it all!
So, I'm sharing some thoughts and reflections and the inspiration that arose in me from witnessing a woman living her life as an artist, muse, mythologist, way-shower, oracle, author, teacher, researcher, mentor, and more.
Thank you for watching and sharing how this might inspire your path.
Here's to flourishing within the great rhythms and natural cycles of life.
    Please subscribe for more. 🎶꩜🐝🙏🏽

I love hearing each one of you, Layne's long time students, tell your stories. I was blessed to have studied with her over one long weekend toward the end of her life, studying the bee priestess tradition and the frame drum. What a blessing her life was and continues to be. ❤

I’m so grateful for this video, Krista! I hung on every word. I love how everyone of us in the sphere, in the hive, of Layne Redmond, has a unique story. Love the differences and the common grounds.
And I loved how you segued into a beautiful teaching about the herstory, the deep spiritual connection, the remembrance, and how to move forward! Such an interesting time of the world we live in, and what magic we can weave through Rhythm, through the Frame Drum, for ourselves and the collective, and how it connects us to one another, is really poignant to me!
And how the synchronicities abound, when we step into the world of Layne Redmond and When the Drummers Were Women... How Layne impacted our our lives when we were young, and continues to impact our lives, as well as those who continue to discover her and the sacred drum!
And as I just said that, the cicadas sounded a really big cheer, it was so loud, like a big YAY!
PS - awesome how you used that dark pulse in your video, wow…
    😘🙏🏽🌸⚪️🌸
