Gday mate, I’m finally replacing my heater core pipes and hoses. I’ve watched your video heaps of times and now have dash removed. Thanks. I’m going to attack the heater soon. Thanks for the instructions. I’ll let you know how I get on. Cheers

G'day Billy, thanks for the detailed how to video. I am going to have to do this on my Magna thanks to the hose connectors breaking off inside the hose.
Definitely as an interim I'll bypass the heater core but then organise a time with a mate to remove the dash and replace the core and connectors.

Most welcome Andrew, hope my video makes it easier for you to do the replacement. I also made one on bypassing the heater core if that may help too.

Thank you. If I didn't film or clean the interior trims etc then it would have taken about 5-6 hours, but in actuality I spent most of one afternoon followed by the next morning refitting some interior trims and mats that I had cleaned the previous day.

So far I can't understand why you have to strip the car to get to the heater core...a radiator with 2 bes heading through firewall. Ok 10 minutes later it seems the heater box has to be totally accessible to come out. Bloody stupid design but it is what it is, Why not test the unit before replacing dashboard?

Certainly a weak point in an otherwise well designed and engineered car, I've no idea why they chose to fit plastic outlet pipes.

Great video Billy, I done this to a KJ Verada I had about 7 years ago, my KL Verada 2 days ago had the heater pipes fail in a big way , not a slow leak it was gushing in to the cabin, full of steam and water, both the pipes had snapped off unlike my KJ it was leaking seals, I'm dreading doing this job again, I bi-passed the heater core yesterday and ordered new pipes today, how long did it take you to do the complete job? I remember I took the front seats out of my KJ when I done this.

Thanks dean r, much appreciated. If I didn't spend time filming and cleaning up the dash when it was in pieces I could have probably done the job in about 5 hours? I haven't watched my video in a while but seem to recall that I had the dashboard ready to remove after about 90 minutes then it was another 30 to access and remove the heater core. Given you've replaced it before you'll have an advantage there. Removing the front seats will provide more space to work but isn't neccessary unless you have massive flooding and need to remove and dry out the carpet.

@@billymasonpi thanks getting back to to so fast, much appreciated. When I done this job last time I done it over the Xmas holidays, this time I will have to do it in one day or maybe the weekend. Is your Magna still going well?

@@Djr67 Unfortunately it’s been under a car cover in garage storage since Christmas with no time to take it out or do any work on it. Hoping over Easter to get it out of hibernation and make a couple of videos. I’m also thinking of reinstalling the standard height springs which might be a little controversial but apart from the visual appeal of it being lowered it’s otherwise pretty impractical and the top nuts on the rear shocks keep coming loose on sharper bumps because the lowered springs are shorter. I’ve installed rubber and metal washer spacers but no luck, maybe there’s a specific shock absorber for lowered springs?

    • @Djr67

@@billymasonpi I have read you can get shocks more suited for lowered springs, but don't blame you going back to standard height springs, KL Verada is low enough on standard springs as the driveway at work is pretty uneven and if I don't go out on an angle the front hits where the tow hook thing is and my tow bar hits the ground, I have to go real slow and on an angle especially if I have some workmates in the car. Thanks again for you replies Billy, hope you get to have some fun with your Magna over easter, I will be tackling my heater core this weekend.
