Jennifer Saunders - Holding Out For A Hero
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 13 сен 2024
- Taken straight from the soundtrack of the movie "Shrek 2". Jennifer Saunders, the actress who plays in this film as the Fairy God Mother covers this old classic first sung by Bonnie Tyler in '84'. The inclusion of this song makes the ending of Shrek 2 even more epic. I remember as a kid getting so amped as she began to sing. Hope you all enjoy =). Copyrights owned by Dreamworks Records (2004).
this song unironically makes the scene it plays in one of the best scenes in any movie ever

"There is no rule that says an imitation cannot defeat the original."
This is literally the best moment in all of DreamWorks Animation's history. Well, the movie scene, of course.
Looks like you aren't alone in that opinion, my friend.
I believe this movie as well as the Prince of Egypt were masterpieces made from Dreamworks lol
@@EmTheFairy_ DreamWorks and Pixar dominated the 2000
i believe DreamWorks really hit it's stride in 2004, everything i can think of that they made then or after, shear greatness, especially in the 2000s, while they were definitely 2nd place to Pixar in animated kids films at the time, they wear 2nd place as a hard earned badge of honor and it suits them, DreamWorks made many of the best kids films of my childhood era, probably ever
@@EmTheFairy_ the Prince of Egypt is also good from what i can remember
FINALLY! A VERSION THAT DOESN'T SOUND LIKE IT WAS RECORDED WITH A POTATO!
Exactly. Sweet candy to the ears.
I just think they're neat!
YES
RIGHTHHTTTTT. FINALLLY FOUND AN HD VERSION
700th Like, gimme 700 potatos
I unironically consider this whole scene as one of the greatest scenes not only in animation but I dare to say that in the cinema in general, the balance of emotions it evokes it's just perfect, the way the fairy godmother seems to be singing about her son but instead it fits so perfectly with Shrek doing everything to reach out for Fiona, as absurd as "A cat in boots, a horse, a man, a giant cookie and fairy tales characters starts a journey to interrupt a royal party" may sound in paper the way they executed the idea was just magistral, proof that no idea is dumb if you know how to work it. There's just a lot to say but I'll just say this will stay forever as one of my favorite sequences in all movie history.
People with Bruno avatars always make good comments.
Did you also come from Schaffrillas? :]
you mean puss in boots.
I think that is just incredible and magical.

It pains me to say that this is better than the original. The original was also good, but this, this is beautiful.

Ngl, I was disappointed "Hit it!" wasn't included but I'm still super happy that is in a great quality now.
im depressed NO versions have the “hit it!”
I mean sure I guess they can exclude her little giggle after it but god damnit why you gotta remove the 2 words that make the start better than it has to be
This works as one of the best villain songs ever because it’s so different. While other songs are about their master plans or inner psychological torment or just them manipulating the hero, this one is meant to accompany the final battle and carry the movie’s message. As she sings, Shrek is being the strong, fast hero that the song is about as he races to save Fiona.
Shrek 2 proves two things. That a sequel to a movie can be better than the original, and that a remake of a song can be better than the original.
Copy and pasted like a champ.
@@NoisyyCricket what are you talking about?
There is no law that says a fake cannot surpass the original.
@@chadthundercock3440 I didn't say it was better. I said it can be better which is how I feel about the movie and the song.
I certainly need more of Jennifer Saunders remaking songs
One of the best climaxes in film history period.
Jennifer Saunders: *Enters. Drops this absolute atomic bomb of a cover. Refuses to elaborate. Leaves*
This is such a masterpiece. The brass, the orchestra and of course Jennifer's delicious vocals
yes, I would love to eat her vocals
Go home
You're drunk
Original is absolute lol
Imitation never defeat the original except Vocaloid songs lol
@@Mahladhan back under your bridge troll! 👍
@@Mahladhan Something's very wrong with your logic when you make the point that since the original is good people must be drunk to have to find the cover good
Her vocals are delicious, but damn it's 2 am. I laugh too hard PFFT
Jennifer Saunders pulled a Jimi Hendrix and made a cover that absolutely smashes the original out of the water.
You're delusional. The original is the supreme.
What was Hendrix' song?
@@benbauer3426 All along the watchtower. The song was originally written by Bob Dylan, but Jimi Hendrix made a cover that was so influential that it overtook the popularity of the original song.
@@ShoahshanaGoldbergShekelstein HA...no The vocals in Jennifer's cover along with the backing choir and band beats the original not to mention the scene that accompanies this

*Shrek 2 and Puss in Boots 2 are proof that animation can be amazing with comedy, drama, action, character development, an unforgettable soundtrack and, most importantly, proving to the world that a good movie is good forever.*
Funny how both sequels to shrek films are better than the original. 😂 o truly belive dreamworks is the only company that can make good sequels.

@@noreoallesWe don’t talk about that
As much as I love Bonnie tyler. Nothing beats this cover. Jennifer really excels here.
To this day Dreamworks, Disney, Pixar, Blue Sky, Sony Animation, Illumination, etc... no animation studio has topped this film at 18 years old I can't stop watching it.
But dreamworks worked on shrek
Shrek 2 is an enjoyable enough film, but let’s be real here, the bar for American animated cinema is tremendously low, it isn’t THAT hard to defy and move beyond expectations. The only US animated films that could even come close to their live action/Eastern counterparts in terms of grand epicness and sheer artistry at the top of my head are Fantasia, Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, The Lion King, The Prince of Egypt, The Iron Giant, Titan A.E., Atlantis The Lost Empire, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Anamolisa, Into The Spider-Verse (maybe), and Soul (maybe),
@@alexgomez6723 those are some good picks. I agree
The film was made by Dreamworks. What are you saying?
@@bengilhooly3616 I think it's more like "they can't recreate the magic they once achieved"but I could be wrong
The fact that noone here are talking about how godly the score in this song by Harry Gregson Williams is should be considered an criminal act. That violin part is straight up fire.
We've seen time and time again that Jennifer Saunders can really belt a tune. This is definitely one of the best.

Isn't there a white knight upon a fiery steed
Late at night toss and turn and dream of what I need
I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero 'til the end of the night
He's gotta be strong
And he's gotta be fast
And he's gotta be fresh from the fight

I'm holding out for a hero 'til the morning light
He's gotta be sure
And it's gotta be soon
And he's gotta be larger than life
Larger than life
Somewhere after midnight
In my wildest fantasy
Somewhere just beyond my reach
Someone reaching back for me
Racing on the thunder and rising with the heat
It's gonna take a superman to sweep me off my feet
Up where the mountains meet the heavens above
Out where the lightning splits the sea
I would swear that there's someone somewhere
Watching me
Through the wind and the chill and the rain
And the storm and the flood
I can feel his approach
Like the fire in my blood
Like the fire in my blood
Like the fire in my blood
Like the fire in my blood

But Shrek 2 did that trope the best, even with its own version.
All right big fella.
LET'S CRASH THIS PARTY.
Literally cant unhear it!
I might rewatch the whole ass movie just for this scene
That’s exactly what I did just now, as of typing this. And boy, did I not regret it. Shrek 2 is peak fiction.

The corresponding scene is so powerful. When Charming drops the rose to try to kiss Fiona, and she picks it up… that was the moment she knew what she had to do
Jennifer Saunders, you are truly absolutely fabulous ❤️
1:37 and 1:23.
I really liked Jennifer in Sing the Movie.
And Jennifer Love Hewitt is good as well!
Shrek 2 is a perfect 10/10 movie.
It’s the best one out of the 4
Are you kidding me? I had no idea this existed. Go Jennifer. You ROCK.
🇺🇸❤️🇬🇧
2:30 I want a violin version like this 🤧
Never forget how epic these scenes are and how tense it all is. Watching the big gingerbread die is literally heartbreaking, but he is a hero, giving Shrek and his friends the chance to get in, Donkey is a noble horse carrying them the whole way, and when they run into trouble, THE MAGNIFICENT PUSS IN BOOTS STEPS OUT TO RUN THE FUCKIN FADE!! MAN SAID "EN GUARDE!" WHILE THE BEAT DROPPED! Savage. This shi just a gas ass sequence and shrek 2 was fireee
honestly i dont think theres a better cover, i genuinely prefer this over the original, and will actively seek it out over the other
Same here
Sometimes I hear this song, my eyes are tearing cause I miss my childhood life so much. :'(
Just like yesterday……
I propose a toast to the creator of this song (I believe it was Bonnie Tyler who first sang it) for such an amazing song and for the fact that it helped create one of the most beautifully crafted scenes in animation history!
live love jim steinman 🙏
I don't care what anyone else says I prefer this over the original song, I love both versions but something about this one is just SO FUCKING GOOD
I usually despise remakes of original oldies but this one was amazing.
Wanna test to see if you are a true Shrek fan? Listen to this song, close your eyes, and see if you can visualize the entire seen point for point, word for word.
This was an un-ironically amazing climax.
This scene..... this one scene. Was peak cinema
Hearing this again made me realized the beats are awesome with orchestral accompaniment
The chills I still get watching this part of the movie. Hands down the best part!
This is one of those covers that's so fucking good I don't even think about the original anymore
Little did she know she created the most original cover possible.
18 years later still awesome song
Love the violins at 2:34
When she said ‘Superman’ I felt that...
Sometimes the cover can be better than the original...sorry Bonnie
Sometimes, the whole damn thing is better than the original.
I literally just said the same thing to my dad. Just like I'm a believer (originally done by the Monkees) is better by smash mouth
Try frou frou cover its kinda good
I wish there was a Jennifer Saunders Holding Out For a Hero topic right here on RUclips, Because I definitely don't love the original Bonnie Tyler version😤😡
Bonnie's version is still good. Her style is more of pop rock 80's style
So I forgot how good this cover was, and then later on I realized Jennifer played the Godmother. When I realized, I looked this up and I am windblown by good it is and I wanna know how I possibly could have forgotten 🤣
Not gon lie. Hot take. This remix is better than the original. ESPECIALLY with the scene. Shrek 2 hit a LICK with this one, and Jennifer Saunders KILLED it. Epic. 👏🏾👏🏾
This is why I prefer this version of this song
i wish i could rewatch this scene for the first time again
After all these years, yep, I still love this cover even more than the original. Orchestra and choir fan.
I am convinced if they did a cover of any other song for this scene it wouldnt have been as memorable
I’m glad they remixed the orchestration and instrumental. Had they use the original song and had her sing over it, it wouldn’t have sounded good.
This is one of my favorite Movie climaxes' of all time.
Great vice and a fond childhood memory.
Behold, the studio that made Boss Baby. How the mighty have fallen.
I'd like to thank Harry Gregson-Williams for this boss ass instrumental.
Can we all agree that this version is so much better than the original?
THIS. IS. THE BEST VERSION. OF THE SONG. XD
Sometimes we forget that in-universe the future of the kingdom depended on the outcome of that night; if Prince Charming kissed Fiona that would lead to him marrying Fiona essentially making Fairy God Mother queen.
I can’t believe this is Jennifer Saunders. I heard it when I was way little and then as I grew up, I found Jennifer Saunders through the Uk comedy videos on RUclips. So I guess I had taste back then and was foreshadowing hahaha
How could they remove the iconic "HIT IT! 👹" ?
We all came here for the same reason. Bonnie Tyler made a banger, this movie made the song even more iconic. But the scene it plays in, I think we can all agree, is a cinematic masterpiece.
I feel old I was in the theaters in 04 watching this movie lol I was 5
