I still have this unit, and it is just superb. I bought mine new on first release. I’ve never checked any internal batteries or the like, but it still works perfectly.

Brilliant model the MU100R. I own four and have six different PLG boards (AN, DX, AP, VH, VL, DR).

Nice, I just ordered the MU100. I'm using a modern Mac, and although I'm not fearing having to use the front panel to set up and edit patches, I'm wondering about some form of computer integration. I see there's MIDI Quest, but it looks like I'd need the Pro to be completely happy, and it's expensive as all heck; great for people who have a whole ton of modules and synths they can use with MIDIQuest, but too much for just one. Is there another editor/librarian I can use, or really, any kind of prog or file that can be of help? Thanks.

I'm not a Mac user so any ideas or recommendations I give will be for Windows XP, which has some good options like Yamaha Studio Connections, so you can use your MU100R and PLG boards just like VST plugins. Weirdly the best place to download the free English language Yamaha PLG plugins for use with Studio Connections, is only from the Japanese language website! They have the full range of software on there, whereas the English / USA sites have very little support by comparison.

    Very nice demo :)
I got myself the half rack version (MU100), and I was considering getting one of the plug-in boards, except there are two issues:
    - It's not clear if the PLG150 are better choices than the PLG100 for this particular device
    - The PLG1x0-DX are out of this world in term of price, which leaves the choice between the VL, VH, XG, SG, AN and PC, and I'm not sure which one would be the best choice to complement it
    Suggestions welcome!

Not sure if it might still be of any use but the 150 cards have Motif/S90/(the more "professional workstation" type devices from Yamaha" specific extra memory allowing to save and recall patches to memory for those cards, where you're previously limited to sysex.
With the 100 series you *have* to save/transmit any custom settings or whatever over MIDI.
If you have a MU unit, either of the cards that have both a 100 and 150 version are fine, the MU units just cannot use the extra memory functions (but they *can* still *use* the 150 cards just fine)
So for example, either DX card is identical in spec and performance, the only difference is that if you had a Motif keyboard and the 150 DX board, you could save 150 user sounds, while you can't on the 100.

@@NeoTeAika I got myself a PLG150-PC and it indeed worked without any problem in my MU100 (at least, after I fixed the cold solder problems on some of the MU main board).
Thanks for the answer, I did not know this specific difference regarding saving of data, useful to know!
