flashtu Engineering Explained did a video on this comparing summer vs winter during the winter but with no snow and the summer tires actually still got more grip! We think because of how the tread is designed for snow it will actually have less surface area when on smooth dry pavement. ruclips.net/video/TJsV2ORMsms/видео.html
Actually tests have shown that even at 30 degrees f that summer tires stop and start faster on dry asphalt compared to a winter tire, by about 20 feet longer stopping at 60mph. winter tires probably are better starting at like 10 f. but dominate with any snow or ice.
Proper snow tires are the best, I usually buy mine in the summer time they are really cheap then, then store them until the winter time

I live in Mass too and its amazing how many people do not drive with winter tires. I have michelins xice on both my cars and they are amazing in the snow! Great video!
I do sidewalk snow removal out of my Crown Vic Interceptor. Winter tires, limited slip diff and around 750 lbs of ice melt bags in the back seat turn it into virtual snowmobile.

I couldn't believe to RWD chevy Colorado 2011 can bet all FWD vehicles in most of situations on icy and snow roads, until I buy hakkapeliitta 9 tire, they completely changed acceleration, stability and breaking

People get very confused about Summer and Winter tyres. Here In Sweden we have a lot of snow and ofc you need a Winter tyre it is called like that for a reason. However you CAN use Summer tire on Snow but NOT on Ice and as well your braking distance will be like double longer on summer tires. If you wanna cheap out you can put new Winters forward and leave summer behind if you own a front wheel drive car but it is not recommended.

Huso I know brother!! I was being ironic. We get at least one or two days of heavy snow every year (nothing compared to Norway, of course) and you can’t imagine how many people gets stucked because of bad tyre choice. Winter tyres are important.

Thumbs up on your video. I live in Minnesota and a lot of people seem to forget that summer Tires should be change for winter but they don't see that up here. Many people anyway. So off I go with my rear wheel drive Ford Crown Victoria with really grippy tires with extra weight in the back end and I pass them up. Yes it's rear-wheel drive but extra weight in the trunk and good tires makes me get through the snow pretty easy. I also have high clearance. I have been noticing a lot of these new cars now are very low to the ground. And if we get 6 to 8 inches of snow a lot of these import cars will not move at all even with good tires because they don't have the ground clearance. Thanks for uploading, peace .

Phahahahaha some Quattro are 4Motion (as in Haldex) in many tests the System is superior to Torsen, in deep snow however it is not. Regardless you are funny since you are ignorant.
In these conditions all wheel drive just get you into trouble quicker. Its an even playing field for braking and steering...

All 4. The back of the car will swing around due to poor grip while braking with only winter tires on the front. :/ it’s a shame winter tires are so expensive

You start off exactly how you shouldn't....who just starts spinning the tires every time???
Not 100 percent sure but because he is driving a manual the minimum wheel speed with the clutch engaged is whatever the idle speed is. So depending on the gearing it could seem like its excessive spinning or not.

Hey great channel just started to follow... I'd like your opinion on wheels... I have a 2016 Jetta tsi 1.4l with a injen turbo intake and a unitronic stage 1+ tune. I'd like to get F1R F21 wheels for my Jetta and Id like your opinion on the look it would take with them. Im not trying to build a race car, it's my daily driver and I'm getting into VW'S. I like going to car meets and hanging out with the VW community. I went to eurotripper in February and it was a blast. Thanks for your thoughts keep up the great posts.

A more fair test/comparison would be your GTI with snow tires vs a car that is all wheel drive with summer tires.
Obviously the winter tires are better, because it's for..........winter.
Even with a light dusting, your summer tires are useless. Because summer tires become hard as a rock when the temperature drops. And a winter tire has a softer compound so it stays soft when the temp drops.
I just put hankook icept's on my wrx. I can't wait for it to start snowing.

How is a not a more fair comparison? You're comparing a tire that's meant for the condition you're in, in this video vs a tire that is not meant for it. Without even making the video everyone knows the results.
Summer tires aren't meant for winter period, even if there is no snow on the ground. The rubber compound is much different in a summer tire than winter, disregarding thread pattern, the rubber compound actually makes the most difference. Summer tires get hard as a rock when it's cold and a winter tire doesn't.
If you wanna use your logic, at least do winter vs all seasons.

It's a massive difference... don't think you can come to Norway now for example and think you can use your summer tires. You would be of the road even before accelerating
Huso I use mudd terrain on my ZR2 4x4 S10 that should hold up just fine, now our commuter honda accord that's front wheel drive probably not so much
