@@vulpix9210 It's always best not to assume but I get what you mean. I'm Turkish but I live in Belgium as I grew up here. In my case I simply got really lucky and got a brand new 64GB unit for cheap. Think what people are missing is running games with proton on linux isn't the same as doing it on ARM, the Steam Deck is still an x86 machine all proton does is convert windows Direct X calls to something that works in linux, On ARM not only do you have to do that but you also need to emulate the x86 chip on top of that, that's fine for games that are 10+ years old but expecting a ARM chip to emulate a x86 game that has come out in the past 5/10 years or future games is crazy
Apple is already doing something similar with their Game Porting Toolkit for their ARM systems. It works surpisingly well, even latest Wukong can be run throught these tools on MacBooks. It can be done and I imagine Valve has more interest here than Apple...

And even after getting a decent desktop setup, I still couldn't live without having a gaming laptop, though handheld gaming PCs have now kind of made my gaming laptop redundant lol. @@DeckReady Nice! My hope and expectation is that most everything will work as desired right out of the gate, but it will ultimately depend on overall hardware and software compatibility. On the off-chance that you do encounter meaningful issues with games/graphics in general after the initial install, you might want to look into the process of “rebasing”. This is a super simple (just a couple of terminal commands) and very cool means of “automagically” switching between different versions/installations of Bazzite, as well as other immutable, atomic Fedora Linux desktop distributions. For Bazzite specifically, you might decide to rebase between the open source and closed source/proprietary Nvidia driver builds of the OS to see if one works better than the other for your hardware and overall gaming needs. I like the steam deck OLED because it’s a PC/console and a chain held so it’s all built in one with the TV in it and the screen in it I think is better than the TV that I play Xbox and PlayStation, but I would like to have a handheld from Xbox that I can play Game Pass owned I know you can do it on steam deck, but I don’t feel comfortable installing windows. I did see a video on RUclips not too long ago how to put windows on a SD card but it looks like a long process. I did recently buy Starfield for a steam deck because it’s portable and it doesn’t require Internet to play it like it does through Game Pass and I can take it with me on the go. I could please Starfield through the Xbox cloud on my phone, but that requires Internet and mobile data if you’re riding in a car it doesn’t always work that well
I got a Steam Deck recently and its honestly a game changer (no pun intended lol) The fact it's a hand-held that runs a huge amount of games and is a solid desktop all in one is its best feature! Linux is not that steep of a learning curve either. I have a PS5 as well and a bunch of other consoles but the deck does things they can't.
With Forza its definitely a marketing decision, they just made their profits double by doing this steam and Xbox thing, as you say you will get your achievements but not saves. This is indeed to make you buy another version of the game. Simplest play ever but yet it works...
game pass on countries with bad internet kinda idiotic , and those countries has no issues of pirating due to console prices is too damn high still remember ps1 waited for a massive discount just to buy 1
M3 Max already proved that emulating x86 game is so playable on ARM hands down provided that you got adequate gpu shading units. I won't be surprise if valve handheld and VR will switch side from x86_64 to ARM64. PS6 already decided to stick with AMD x86. It would be interesting if XBOX and Steam devices switch to ARM64. Even better if Intel would start to design ARM chip to compete with Qualcomm.
For the whole ARM processors is that AMD and Nvidia are planning on making mobile/desktop ARM CPUs so if that ends up being the case then an Xbox handheld could be using those since it was said that it would happen during 2025 which if the AMD chip would perform like a R5 5600 or even 7600 and have an iGPU close to an RX 580 then Valve could also use that for the next Steam Deck since ARM is more Linux friendly and also a lot more games could look a lot better than what they look on the current Steam Deck.
Steam has a big opportunity to take a dual boot windows machine, make windows a VM in Steam, take all the dlls that you are licensed to use, make their own compatibility layer. Reverse engineer those dll when microsoft changes the license. Take the WHOLE market.

Dollar for dollar AMD actually performs better than Nvidia, especially when running in a linux environment. Caveats here being native resolution and rasterization. If you want to throw RT and upscaling into it, some would argue for Nvidia.
yeah especially when you build a pc in the low to mid range you will get better rasterization performance with AMD with of course the disadvantages that you mentioned which are RT and DLSS but to be fair AMD also has some advantaged like afmf 2 which is still missing on Nvidia. I think Nvidia has just become so big that most people will just assume Nvidia is always the better choice but i think when you look into it it's not as obvious despite the market dominance.. when you have Linux i think it becomes very hard to recommend Nvidia but at least it's good to see that they seem to slowly put a little bit more effort into Linux.
@@7MBoosted Why do you say it though? What's the reasoning behind it? CUDA works on Linux. DLSS works. As far as I know, RT works too. Nvidia drivers are stable on GNOME. Mostly stable on Wayland. I've only seen the occasional bug on KDE Plasma. So what am I missing? Why does it suck? Also, I'd say that AMD is performing better than Nvidia is only a half-truth. When it's a fact that software features can increase fps by over 50%, it needs to be taken into consideration. And frankly speaking, Nvidia DLSS performs better than FSR.
I get the feeling that if SteamOS gets released, it's meant to be used with other handled devices like ROG Ally, Legion Go, and others using AMD SoC's, not desktop PCs.that have dedicated Nvidia GPUs, and have either AMD or intel CPUs. I'm sure that will come later, but will take time.
It's GTA Online is busted on Steam Deck, due to BattleEye being implemented, it's broken in GTAV in story mode since you can disable Battleeye for that. This will allow you to play GTA Role-play FiveM mods.
The companys want their own hand helds so they can make people only able to use their system. Valve makes it friendly to do what you want with the system you own.

Nvidia gpus are better on windows and overall for creative apps and gaming
I still go with nvidia cause of that
@@7MBoosted Why do you say it though?
Xbox handheld purportedly using an ARM chip - ya like the Qualcomm CoPilot laptop was such a home run.
It's GTA Online is busted on Steam Deck, due to BattleEye being implemented, it's broken in GTAV in story mode since you can disable Battleeye for that. This will allow you to play GTA Role-play FiveM mods.
If you build a PC, you should wait until AMD's new GPUs come out. So probably early next year.
I won’t buy a game from a company who breaks games on the Steam Deck or sue due to using game pics or gameplay videos.
7:01 i hate when people say that...
its like 100 games? 1000 maximum? i know it looks like its endless but, come on...
The companys want their own hand helds so they can make people only able to use their system. Valve makes it friendly to do what you want with the system you own.
9:36 an more likely scenario...
valve make steam games work on android devices.
at least with indies and old games this should be possible.
I just wish they were this proactive about fixing thier janky over priced dock.
Rockstar can kick rocks they are a lousy developer when it comes down to their customers.
I choose to stay with AMD over Nvidia because of nvidia's horrible price.
I'd like to adjust the amount of magnification int he magnifier tool. let me set the zoom!
the arm tool valve is working on is for their new vr headset, likely not for a new handheld
Actually most Adobe apps have native ARM versions these days.
I dont only see what you invision for proton, but imagine also if people with horrible game performance on a snapdragon windows laptop can install steam and play games with near perfect performance via proton? it'd be amazing! or if the next steamdeck was a snapdragon based chip.
What exactly is valve’s protection to keep people from pirating games?
I wonder if they will do anything more for windows 11 users?
Quit drinking, bro. You look way older than 31
There was a 1998 WH40k Chaos Gate game.
this guy thinks valve can comunicate Dumass
"Gaming" Laptop... cough. I will never understand people, buying a laptop for gaming, when mobility is not your undisputed priority 1. Nevertheless: Great vid! i really appreciate your ongoing effort to focus on bs developer decisions and to call out for valve's help for the steam/steam deck community.
I used to own a gaming laptop. An Asus TUF A15. Though it had some problems with hardware so it was my first and last gaming laptop. It's a hit or miss when it comes to reliability of gaming laptops. I can say though that they are quite convenient if you're far away from home and not only using it for gaming. Nowadays I use a desktop and it's lasting me almost 3 years now. More than my useless broken laptop. I've contemplated on getting another gaming laptop here and there, but I've blocked those thoughts every time cause I don't really need one.
It’s fun to be able to play in different rooms or at my friends house pre deck
