    I discovered your channel through a van wives episode. And I am hooked. I have been playing marathon catch up, viewing your videos.
    From the build of your deck, what a game changer that was, your bathroom install, road repair/build, the solar panels install episode. And I am just getting started.
    Who knew that I would be riveted to the episode of repairing the bulldozer. Riley is that proverbial “jack of all trades’s.” He is amazing.
    And Courtney, you go girl. Haven’t seen a piece of equipment yet that you don’t open the door jump in and operate it like a pro. Totally fearless.
    Can’t wait for your next episode.

    A quick screw alignment hack is to use an awl and hammer to punch mark the screw holes on the metal while stacked. The dimple will transfer down through multiple sheets. Repunch as needed before the marks disappear. Just make sure the ends are even and the orientation is correct. This will give you laser straight lines and speed the process.

    What I enjoy most on RUclips is construction videos. Both of these channels offer a lot of DIY unconventional building. Stuff like this is pretty unique in a sea of conventional building videos. I'm especially interested in solar stuff, since I have my own DIY ground-mount array. And yes, I did it all except for a concrete pump that I hired. And even then he ran the pump while I operated the business end of the hose. I think a workshop made like Ambition Strikes' new building might be in the cards for our ranch.

    My brother in law has been building metal buildings for several decades now and when we were building our carports he would pre drill all the sheets when they were uncovered from the factory and they were perfectly lined up every time because they were all the same. They are big RRBuildings fans, as am I, he advocates against punching/ drilling roof panels due to the danger of the shavings scratching the panels since they tend to be slid across each other and get walked on. He does punch the walls. Having said that, when I built my building I did drill and have not found any scratches.

    You do realize that the wood blocks you glued down to support the decking and screw into ( to anyway ) looked like OSB which lasts in wet/rainy weather for a week or two tops before becoming sawdust and wood chips.

    • @wadebeauchaine1297
      @wadebeauchaine1297 7 месяцев назад +4

      If that is happening to you, you are not using exterior grade OSB. I have had some exposed exterior OSB for 3 years and it has turned gray but is still solid.

    • @fredrikg120
      @fredrikg120 6 месяцев назад

      the wood itself is untreated, so it will last about as long as the OSB =)

    You should of extended your roof all the way across the top of those containers. You would have created some extra storage plus you wouldn’t have to deal with a water and snow on top of the containers. Depending on the amount of snow, you get this winter, you might be wishing that you covered them up.
    A friend of mine did it the way you’re doing it and he lives to regret it

    I'm concerned that there is no bracing to prevent the 3 foot high walls holding up the roof from falling over (one into the building, the other onto a shipping container) due to wind load. I had hoped that you would extend the roof over the shipping containers, which would have solved this problem, but you did not.

    • @guygrotke8059
      @guygrotke8059 7 месяцев назад +2

      People don't realize their trusses are super strong at taking side wind load, but either don't brace them or use skimpy braces against end wind load. They can all fall like dominoes without that bracing. All it takes are a few 2x4s running from the top of the end trusses down diagonally to something solid, to create those structural triangles. Those can go in as soon as you have a few trusses up, and they hold the end trusses rock-solid vertical which makes every subsequent truss perfectly vertical. In the case of AS's building, I would put just such a diagonal brace from the top of each end 3 foot tall post down to the bottom of the next post. Gotta make triangles, folks. Squares can collapse.

    If you pre-drill the entire stack of roofing (just after you unwrap it), all the screw holes will line up and you won't have to spend all that time scribing for drilling each hole on the roof.
    Just line up the edges of the stack..lay out the drill pattern with a square and drill all the sheets, all at once..on the ground.
    HUGE timesaver and one of the most fundamental things you can learn when metal roofing.

    Been with Jaz and Crystal for a very long time so to meet you both is a bonus. Loved watching you all achieve so much in a short time, it was amazing. Subscribe to your channel now so looking forward to being with you two. I live in the UK, in a village up near the Yorkshire Moors near Huddersfield in West Yorkshire. I’m 75 but still very active, but do nothing like you all do. It brings me so much pleasure to watch you build your homes and follow your dreams. See you soon ❤️💙xx

    A great way to put panels on is to predrill a bunch in a stack. That way when you are up on the roof you just drive the screws into the holes and they are all perfectly in line!

    How cool Jaz & Crystal decided to come help & give you some instruction. Not gonna lie, as someone that owned/ran a construction company for ~ 30ish years, I'm glad to see it still holds that women are a great asset in the industry. I found women are preferable bc they are receptive to training instruction & frequently don't need "retraining" once they have done something. There is no 'ego' to argue with nor do they try to 'get away with 'shortcuts' or clown around like with most guys.

    Build a man basket for the skidsteer.. This would be a good indoor winter metal Fab project and you won't be teetering on a pallet. You won't believe how handy it will be.
