Hugh Jackman really is a great person! You can't truly find many celebs like that, there's a couple I've mentioned before but they are that scarce I can't remember them after 10 mins of thinking 😂
Jackman basically starved himself, deprived himself of water and sang 12 hours a day. Hooper (the director) told him that he didn't want people to be able to recognize Hugh, and if they did recognize him, then they should think he's sick. (Hearsay from Jackman) Shockingly, that physical transformation and making yourself look sick is bad for singing. (Seriously, I can't stress enough how bad that was for his voice. He's lucky he can still speak outside of a rasp. Not drinking water for 36 hours, then singing at all is dangerous, working a 12 hour day like Jackman did is more than enough to cause permanent damage. You can trivially find doctors saying to drink upwards of a half a gallon, roughly two liters, of water per day, adding more if you consume sugary or caffeinated drinks. This is just for singing, not working heavily doing anything else.) Doing 12 hour days where "you sing the whole damn song" every take alone can damage a person's voice, but more relevantly for this question, it WILL exhaust your voice. Takes at hour 11 are going to suck compared to what you can do when fresh. Some of the good takes were doubtlessly ruined by the nature of recording the music live (instead of in a studio to later match) and just how sensitive the microphones were. A creaky floor, rain landing on the crew, literally the sound of a pianist playing a keyboard. (To be clear, the sound of the keyboard like when you typed out this comment.) Its a miracle that the film version of Les Mis wasn't just a disaster. Its production was, yet somehow managed to produce a film that some people enjoy.
@@SquallLionhart409 Exactly - I am a musician and absolutely love the movie (probably because of Eddie Redmayne, lol) when I ignore the *cough cough* painstakingly bad *cough cough* aspects of it and my favorite youtuber Sideways explains everything about this movie-musical perfectly ------ ruclips.net/video/1ikqU6G6Xgs/видео.html
Tom Hopper should not be allowed to direct musicals. When he performed that in the movie he was dehydrated, like 36 hours no water, which any singer can tell you horrible idea. They were also singing like 8 - 12 hours a day. I’m currently also rehearsing 8 hours a day an the amount of tea and water oben been drinking. All the things in that movie were so questionable and bad. It’s a wonder no one permanently damaged their vocal cord. There’s a really good video explaining all this. It’s called something like ‚why the music in les Misérables is worse than you thought‘
This basically proves how bad they treated the movie... We could've had this for pete's sake Jackman could sing better outside in the cold, than he could in a carefully controlled environment... This is why "First Movie With Live Recorded Music" isn't an achievement. It's a sign of stupidity
He is actually a good singer surprisingly. His higher notes were more yelling but the lower notes were good actually. He is not on the vocal level of Beyoncé, Christina Aguilera, Lady Gaga or Bruno Mars.
Comparing him to female voices isn’t the best idea. Bruno Mars is a tenor (maybe even a countertenor) compared to Hugh Jackman’s deeper baritone voice. Also Bruno Mars doesn’t have operatic training, so the comparison doesn’t really say much.
Agreed someone said Beyoncé can’t hold a candle to him when it comes to singing. Beyoncé destroys Hugh singing. She has better range, more agility, capable of complex melisma, better control and a better tone. Beyoncé is a star vocalist and Hugh is a C or a B.
@@TheViolinAndMore If he were an opera singer we could appreciate it… Remember this is the Marvel comic character trying to sing pop tunes! It just doesn’t work.
This man is just magnificent....he can sing, he can dance, he has a wife that he is loyal to, that he loves....he is the true Renaissance Man.
...if only he COULD sing---this is pretty sad!
You forgot what he is most well known for, he can ACT.
If only he didn't love her, put on his glasses and saw me and saw true love

Director forced them to do every take live which can fatigue the voice very fast over the course of filming

In the 1997 Aussie production of les Miserables Hugh Jackman was the young student leader.
HE HAS TO DO MORE MUSICALS!!!!!!!!!
He IS a Theatre actor :)
Would love to see him as the phantom from phantom of the opera

Pourquoi un drapeau rouge ???
second only to the great Colm Wilkinson
Colm Wilkinson was the priest in the film...who gave Jackman the candles.

He's much better when Tom Hooper's not directing
He's a better than average singer, but for crying out loud...he's OK. He can't stand up to people like Jeff Leyton or Colm Wilkinson.

What an embarrassment.....do you think he can stretch his vibrato out even further? Actors should acknowledge their limitations!
