This was recorded in October 1983 or September-October 1984 because:
-Javier Perez de Cuellar was the Secretary-General of the UN (1982-1991)
-Marwan al-Qassim was the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Jordan (1980-1984, 1988-1991)
-Israel had new governments in October 1983, September 1984 and 1986 (when al-Qassim was not Minister of Foreign Affairs of Jordan)

@@imranhatim.3264 Just remembering my young days when I used to visit Doha, Qatar. With a Yagi antenna & rotor, I could pick up nearby channels without an booster amplifier. With a sporadic E layer present during the summer, could pick VHF channels : Channel 3 (Aramco), Bahrain ch4, Kuwait, Abu Dhabi, Dubai Ch 10, Oman (Mct), Local Iran stns, sometimes Pakistan (Karachi ch.4) & Jordan tv.
ON UHF, could pick Dubai Ch. 33 & Bahrain ch.55.

    عِيشِي بِلَادِي عَاشَ اتِّحَادُ إِمَارَاتِنَا
    عِشْتِ لِشَعبٍ

In my business dealings with people from MENA (all via e-mail), those from Arab nations such as Egypt contact us mostly in Arabic so we have to use translators. However, when they come from UAE most of the time they contact us in English. I presume that, apart from the many foreigners in the country and short of being one of the official languages along with Arabic, the use of the English language is highly encouraged in the Emirates, especially in Dubai and Abu Dhabi?

I bet you don't know that UAE, along with the Gulf states (except Saudi Arabia) were British protectorates until they were granted independence at end of the 60's and UAE around the 70s. Thats why Britons were used for news casters and such in Dubai cause the country was a part of the once glorious British Empire till the '70s.

Channel 33 after 4pm was the only English channel in Dubai at the time. It was for the non-Arab expatriate population living there. The shows were primarily British television and American movies. Every Thursday night, there was one Bollywood movie.

What was known as The Trucial States, and would become the independent United Arab Emirates in 1971, was a British protectorate starting in the early 1800s, so English has a history there.
Also, at this point in time, the UAE was preparing to be a more cosmopolitan society as its foreign trade and business ventures were taking off. They were beginning to be a major player in the oil industry, just after regional powerhouse Saudi Arabia.
