  • Developed through years of research and practice, this methodology encompasses much of your standard lessons material and makes concise work of excerpt preparation. Using readily available tools, we will walk through a process of playing, recording, listening, and improving while gaining an understanding of why we use each section. No matter what kind of music you are preparing, this class will improve your preparation and execution.

This is just amazing and super simple. I hope this lesson starts branching out and being taught to university students more often. This should have so many more views

Holy cow is this a great resource!! Thank you for making this viewable on RUclips. There is so much good stuff in here on being honest with yourself, but also using the tools available as a 21st century musician to get better in objective ways! The difference with Josh from beginning to end was night and day. Thank you for sharing your expertise!

On the last question that they asked, I’d say… Play along with recordings of the band you are auditioning for.

I use AKG k240 headphones and a Shure MV88+ mic that plugs directly into my phone.

Can you talk a bit about which apps/software you've found that work well for recording? And what do you use to create your MIDI files?

I shouldn’t because I’m not an expert on recording. For a plug-in mic I use the Shure MV88+ and while it isn’t perfect, it does what I need it to do. The app is connected to the mic, MOTIV Audio. To create the MIDI files I just use the sound from Finale audio files. You can select which sound you would like, euphonium works fine, you may want to try other sounds, that’s up to you! Anyway, if you have better equipment and better software I would use that.
