Hey Mary! Has your son read any of the Goosebumps books yet?? Those were always awesome! But you could also try to start introducing him to YA science fiction or fantasy if he seems to have become too bored with his traditional age group. I was an advanced reader. As long as you keep out of the romance section you should be fine. Rick Riordan's Heroes of Olympus Books are great, The Shadow Speaker by Nnedi Okorafor-Mbachu, and 13 Hangmen by Art Corriveau would be great transition books as well!
Hi Mary! one of my favorite book series to read when I was 11/12 was the City of Ember books, very interesting story and it may be a good one to check out for your son :-)
A series I loved in middle school was called Cirqu du Freak. I don’t remember how many books there were but I thought they were interesting. Maybe he would like them 🤷🏼♀️
Hey Mary! Great video! As I was watching and listening you talk about your son and his love for reading and I just couldn’t help suggesting a great series to you. It’s called the Gregor chronicles and it’s a series of five books written by Susanne Collins. The first book is titled “Gregor the Overlander” I highly suggest you and your son check it out! Love always
I love your bookshop videos! I really want to see an ASMR Barbie now. She could come with a little microphone and bag of crinkly items! I personally find some of the true-crime ASMR videos a bit creepy. I think discussing murder, rape and abuse whilst still making it relaxing is really hard to do well. I think it can come across as being really inappropriate if it is done badly.
If your son enjoys the Whimpy Kid series, he may enjoy Warrior Kid, by Jocko Willink. I got the first book for my nephew and he liked it so much, he asked for the second one for Christmas.
Mate B. She wrote an amazing book called “River Road” which is all about a cult that she was involved in while younger. It’s an amazing book and she has a playlist of videos where she reads us the entire book. Check it out!
Aw, my 2 year old brings me Giraffes Can’t Dance to read before bed almost every night. I’m trying not to buy any books this year so thanks for this little virtual shopping trip!
I’ll throw in a few more suggestions. My son was a voracious reader when he was about your son’s age. He never wanted to read the Harry Potter books, but he loved the Percy Jackson books-he read each one 5 times, so I’ll second that series and anything else by Rick Riordin. Some others that we also liked: ANY of the Brandon Mull books, but especially The Five Kingdoms series, the Rangers Apprentice books, The Mysterious Benedict Society books and the Keeper of the Lost Cities books. The young adult section leaves him cold (he’s in 8th grade now). Most of it is aimed at girls-I’m sorry to say it, but it’s true! Too much romance, even in the fantasy. We’ve had good luck these days with the YA stuff from Brandon Sanderson.
As an aspiring author these are fun and relaxing for me. I hope you'll continue these walkthroughs. Maybe stop by the mystery/thriller section maybe? :P
Sorry if it’s out of line but I also loved to read as a kid and I’ve really fallen out of it but from when I was a kid I really enjoyed Margaret Peterson Haddix. All of her books have a different theme but they’re all personally really interesting to me or there’s the Keeper of the Lost Cities which is a fun series Edit: A good book he might enjoy is Middle School: How I survived bullies, broccoli, and snake hill by Chris Tebbets and James Patterson
If he hasn't read them I loved the Encyclopedia Brown books when I was young. They're older so don't know if Barnes and Noble would have them. Also the Henry Huggins books, and Choose your own adventure.
Has he ever read , “ magnus chase ” by Rick Riordan ? It’s a three book series but he may like it. Depending on how old he is it may be challenging for him but I think you should check it out and you have to read book 1 to understand book 2 and same thing for book 3.
There is a really sweet bookstore in downtown Greensboro, at least there was last time I was there visiting my parents. Might be cool to make a video in there. Fewer toys!
35:40 sorry WHAT YOU WERE IN A CULT HOW DID I NOT KNOW? Ps is river road the book you’re referring too when you say you wrote about it, I haven’t got around to listening to it yet.
Teacher here, has he tried the following book series?: Harry Potter series Lord of the Rings series Chronicles of Narnia series Diary of a Minecraft mummy The Prince Warriors How to Train your Dragon Percy Jackson Horrible Histories Hatchet
I wish I could sleep like a bear 😂 I took two of my anxiety pills last week and started a sales paper video....I don't think I got through half before my bf woke me up because my phone was on and I was sleeping face down. Just pure magic
There's a young adult book series named Skulduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy its about a skeletal detective sorcerer cracking crimes and a lot of death happens along the way the humor is pretty funny its better than Harry Potter in reviews I'm 39 years old and it still gets laughter out of me
“stay sexy and don’t get murdered... it’s my mantra every morning” I cant😂😂😂😂
My Favorite Murder is my favorite podcast! ❤
@@BougASue okkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

‘There’s a sloth on cocaine’ reminds me of an old ‘friend’.
I had that same thought 😂
The fact that you pick out books for your son to read is so amazing. 💚

Omg Mary now that you mentioned it you should go to the Jamestown library and make an asmr video. Of course when you time. I love you ♥️♥️
For your younger son I would recommend Ali Cross by James Patterson. It’s about a boy who’s best friend has gone missing and he tries to find him.
I love your book shop walkthrough they are so relaxing :)
My favorite murder book and my favorite asmr-tist all together 💖💖
Those were my thoughts exactly😍
Mary I love your videos. I love bookstores as well. Really relaxing. Thank you 💞

Goosebumps books
He read several of those and then declared that he didn't want to read any more. He just wasn't into them.
How do I submit a request for a video? I'd love to see you do a makeup sales counter roleplay!

Is there a video that you talk about being in the cult?
Kat Nap ASMR her video “Is ASMR a cult?” talks about her experience
Morgan Leigh thanks!
When I joined the cult I had to throw out my Dre album. If I had a dollar for every time I heard that.
What does she mean by cult? I'm so confused? ♡

I'm interested in this cult??? You need to tell us x x
Lisa Savage her video “Is ASMR a cult?” talks about her experience
I wrote a book about it, and I read it in a 17-part video series that you can find in my "River Road" playlist.
Funny
What cult are you talking about? I’m genuinely curious
She joined a cult?
Nornor Navarro her video “Is ASMR a cult?” talks about her experience too
I wouldn't say I joined it. I was recruited into it. There's a subtle, but important, difference. Most people are recruited.
I couldn't even finish book 1 of harry potter didn't catch my attention
You should see if your son likes the Percy Jackson series !
