I know everything there is to know about DMG, but lately I opened GBA for the first time, removed corrosion and cleaned everything, but I had this problem. Now it's solved in 10 minutes and I learned something new, thanks to you. Respect.
Nice video..... I notice on ours that the metal strap piece that you unsolder is actually formed such that there is a slight V shape that is meant to push down on the switch part that slides across. I think it’s important to make sure the metal clip is reshaped to apply downwards pressure before it is soldered back on, since it easily becomes deformed when trying to remove it. If this is not done then the switch is sloppy and doesn’t make the best contact.
You are absolutely right. You can also bend up the the legs of the switch itself to make better contact. Also he cut the earbuds but then didn't even use the thin part to clean it, which is what you are supposed to do since the cotton itself is too big. Not a bad video, just some small mistakes.
Nice vid..always nice to share.. When or next time you go in to all that work use a very little small amount of clear electronic contact Grease. That's what I do.. it helps in the long run..
My gameboy had exploded batteries forgotten inside for years, and it stoped working, i could not open to clean it but today i did and after cleaning the blue mess EVERYWHERE (even in places i did not know could be corroted) it still did not turn on, i checked the battery terminals for the 3V of the batteries and everything was ok and this was the issue, it turned On after doing this finally, it's still not perfect, the corrosion was too much, i had to bend the pins inside the switch to have a better connection and it helped but yeah, THANK YOU, now i dont have sound and i think it's because of corrotion too so yeah ill work on that
This is the proper way of fixing that issue :) But lazy me just uses some contact spray and wiggles the on/off button 100x. The GBA sp has similar issues with the power button.
thanks, my GBA wanst turning on, until you mentioned the little detail about moving the switch slowly to see if the led turns on, I tried a few times and saw a little flash "That´s it" I said, tried another few times with a game inside the slot and it worked. Now I just need to open my GBA and clean it, again, thanks for the vid.
Hello ! Thanks for your video. I have a question : does the shielding have polarity ? If i just put tin an it make the two little legs at each end of the shield connect, it will short-circuit ?
I did this exact procedure, but at first I had problems with my 50% IPA shorting the connection; after it dried completely it was fine. I’d recommend using 91% IPA to anyone doing this :)
Started work on my jumper wires using a circuit diagram. Do you have a discord where i could post a pic for help. Just trying to diagnose voltages. Won't turn on yet. Thanks
Unfortunately, I don't. If it's an issue with lifted pads, I would first check for continuity across the pins that correspond to the "On" state of the switch. Verify that it is indeed making contact and turning on. Then at that point, you may need to create jumper wires to attach from the pins themselves, to the next components in the circuit.
What's the tool you used to take the metal plate off to use the qtip inside? Is it possible to complete the cleaning without that tool? I feel very unconfident in my repairing abilities haha
Anything thin enough to get between metal plate and plastic part is ok. Scalpel, thin knife, doesn't matter. You don't apply much pressure on it, it just helps you a bit with lifting the metal cover. One thing you have to be VERY careful about is that V shaped small metal contact on the power switch button that you pull out for cleaning (it's in 8:20 in the video). That small metal thing can fall out and then you will have a problem. Took me a few minutes to locate it on the table when it dropped out. :)

I ended up breaking the power switch in half trying to get the lid off, RIP GBA, god bless you.
Great tutorial though, I'm just inept at these things.

Real cool Channel & Video!
Calm, good explained & perfect camera settings! Thanks m8! Excactly what i was looking for! Keep up the good work!

That's a great idea. Thanks for the tip!
You saved my life man, thank you.
This was exactly what I needed to fix my GBA
Followed your directions and switch works great, thanks
Great fix. I've this power switch problem with my GBA and SP. Now they work like a charm. Thanks!

Nothing wrong with doing it the easy way if it works!

Better 99%
Nice video. My gba the power switch has started to lift with the solder pads with it. Its a task ill have to attempt in the future.
Yikes! Sounds like some jumper wires are in your future!

i cant see the soldering points and I am in desperate need of this mod because I cant get the replacement switch shipped to where I live
Good video tkx
What does one do if one of the anchor pads is lifted for the upper bracket of the Switch?
Do you have a multimeter recommendations for working on gbas?

Good video but for pete's sake use some flux next time
Suuuuperrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
battery LED flickering between green and red even with a fresh set of batteries, the power switch is almost certainly your
my power switch broke off completely
Having the same problem. Did you found replacement?
Damn, should've watched this video before I broke my power switch, oh well its easily replaceable anyways
