I live in San Antonio. I almost bought this today while I am in Alaska. Just couldn’t do it. I feel the software needs a music player built in. I am very surprised that it doesn’t. For now, I will keep my Zumo XT with my Touratech locking cradle. Maybe one day I will; try it. Thanks for the video!
Great video. Thanks for the demo. I did buy the inexpensive cradle from China to hold my phone and use with the BMW connected app and it works fine. But believe it or not, getting the cheap cradle was the suggestion of my dealer. That was about 8 months ago before there was even a whisper of the Connected Cradle. Being able to control the app interface with the bike's jog wheel IS HUGE. The tech in the BMW Connected Cradle justifies its' price. I'm thinking of getting one but waiting to get over the sticker shock of the $700 Helmet, $700 Jacket, $700 Pants etc etc etc.....is everything labeled Adventure $700 dollars LOL..great info, keep the content coming.
@Stan M. I am interested in how you did that. I have a 1200RT and the connected ride is not supposed to fit, and I have a Garmin Zumo XT in the GPS spot anyway. But what I want to do is use the connected ride app on my phone with a quad lock mount. Did you just download the app and pair it with the bike? Or what did you pair to?
@@SuperTrailbiker Yes. Just download the app and pair the phone with the bike. It was easy and now sometimes I don't even put my phone in the caddy I bought. I stick the phone in my pocket and the turn by turn directions come up on my TFT. Sometimes I like to see the map that the app generates on the phone though. A quad lock or the caddy I bought, are just devices to hold the phone. Check out my accessories video on my RUclips channel......Stan For Adventure
Great video. My Nav 6 bit the biscuit last fall, so I finally got to use my tank bag map holder last week. I cannot find the ride Cradle anyplace in Canada. But it looks like the way to go since its cheaper than buying a new Nav 6. But like you mentioned about the waypoints, that could be an issue. I did read though that you can use google maps on your phone, setup your waypoints, and export the map and its data to BMW connected. So that in itself would make the cradle more tempting. If your doing a draw or selling that extra part, I would be interested.
Yes, I have set up waypoints in Google maps, exported it and then imported it into the connected app. It worked great, I don't have the BMW connected cradle yet though
Good review Dave. I have been using a cradle that holds and charges my cellphone but to have the ability to access and control the Connected app through the wheel would be great. Have taken my gloves off too many times to mess with the nav in my phone
Having bought and experienced the nav6 in all its "glory", I think an old school blackberry with some on the buttons missing, taped to the handle bars would be a better experience. The cradle is a long overdue godsend.
I like the cradle, but getting use to the BMW Connected app is another hurdle for me. On my long complicated rides I use base camp and I haven't mastered importing those into the app just yet. My guess is soon the Garmin device will disappear from BMW, if you look at the RT's, and GTL's they are already gone. Its a matter of time. Dave
You’re right about lots of waypoints but I find apps better than devices. Google Maps, Waze, OSM. I carry a device only as a backup because the apps are more dependent on real-time cell service and I’m periodically out of range. And it is in those times that you need most a gps.
I use another cradle that cost under $40 and does most of what the BMW cradle does. I can use the wheel but don't have all the options the BMW one has but most and it charges my phone wirelessly. BMW cradle not available at dealer.
Have heard unfavourable things about the Nav 6 (really erxpensinve clunky;garmin xt keeps showing up as the answer ..for $700CDN) so this option seems like the bomb. Am taking delivery of a new GS1250 this week so would be keen to install this unit. Is thewer a skill-testing question for the draw? really nice videos. Liked the one with the overlander duffle. Couldn't find your review of the MM scout duffle which I'm also looking at... Safe riding
Thanks for the review. But I’m actually more interested in how you have installed two BMW GPS mounts. Grateful if you could share how you achieved this please as I am looking to install a Zumo XT next to my Nav V. Thanks.
Are you aware of any vibration damage news from using this cradle? I damaged my previous iPhone camera lenses due to vibrations from the motorcycle. QuadLock has now addressed the issue by releasing a vibration damper for all of their mounts. Wondering if BMW got ahead and resolved this issue with their cradle. Thanks!
@@KendallAdventureandTravel one of the things you can try is to get a cheap android phone somewhere and use that in the cradle. turn on wifi on your good phone and put it in your pocket. The cradle phone will get all the data it needs by wifi and you dont have to worry about vibration in your good phone in pocket. You can find android phones a couple years old for $25 that will work just fine.
@@KendallAdventureandTravel is there such a thing as a cheap apple phone? $1000 is a bit much for a second phone mounted with wifi enabled so your #1 $1000 phone can be in your pocket.
My iPhone 13 came out of the cradle under heavy acceleration on an s1000xr, this happened to a friend too. It works great but I don’t trust it to hold my expensive phone securely. I have also heard of damaging phone cameras, especially on my bike due to vibrations. I’ll stick to nav 6
I bought mine a few weeks ago. I wonder if anyone else has run into this, but the Wireless charging keeps going on and off. to the point that my phone almost lost charge. I'm now plugging it using the USB-C connection. i'm pretty disappointed by this as I was really excited for the wireless charge. Has anyone else run into this?

Yes, mine cut off too twice on the sunny days. Had to take out of cradle and put in pocket to cool down from it to work again. Still love the cradle though
BMW is insane. No instructions. None. Wtf. Germans. Don’t give them feedback. They need orders. Germans have two modes. They either give orders or they take orders. Nothing in between.
Nice video. I really enjoy your channel and how you test a wide variety of products. Thanks for keeping us up to date.

I just sold my Nav 6 and got a cradle, for complex rides you can create GPX files in Basecamp and import them so exactly the same as the Nav 6
