There is some information about this here but I don't think breeders in the US understand it well. They frequently use clear plastic containers, then their medaka end up looking pale. I wonder what effect keeping medaka in an aquarium indoors is having on my medaka. They are still young, they get good sunlight, but the fish's color is not good. I'm about to move them outdoors into black containers so maybe some darker colors will show up. Thanks!
Sorry for late reply💦 Thank you for your comment. keeping medaka indoor affect medaka in some ways. for example, the water deteriorate quickly compared to keeping outdoor. Green water also make medaka color darker. if you want to get strong color, I recommend using green water as well👍
Just an update: I had purchased eggs of a medaka variety referred to as "Aka Tora" here in the US. It's supposed to look rather like a calico cat with peach and dark gray mottling. They did not develop any coloration until I moved them outside to a black tub, now about 85% of the fish have gotten really well colored. I hadn't heard this tip about container color anywhere else so thank you! BTW the summers here are usually just too chilly for green water to develop, although I can grow a lot of Anacharis an other plants which makes the water quite cool and shady. Also I think I will have to bring breeding trios indoors to breed in heated tanks as it's been a very cold summer here and they are not breeding. I hope you are over your covid by now and doing well. Still my favorite medaka channel. 🌟
@@S-scapes Thank you for your comment! No worries👍I didn't mention it. So, I recommend using white or clear container when they are fry. maybe until the become 2cm, and move to black container👍
@medaka_momiji Will a light grey have a similar effect as a light blue container? Also will a dark grey have same effect as black? I would like to use dark grey instead of black to keep temperatures better during summer. Thanks so much!
hello from Denmark. a question about eggs. when the female wanders around with her eggs, are they fertilized, or does she still have to mate with a male
