Cameron having 3 of his films in the top 5 all time box office is an achievement that will probably never be surpassed, only of course by James Cameron.
By next weekend, 3 out of the 4 top grossing films of all time will belong to him. Incredible.
Actually probably soon it will be 3 out of top 4!
And Zoe Saldana been in 4 of the top 5 grossing films (when avatar overtakes SW)
@@mrvocal21 3 out of the top 3*. Endgame isn't a film, it's a movie
Cameron the goat
Just watched Avatar 2 for the first time yesterday, Sunday, Jan 22. The IMAX theater was still 70% full even after all these weeks.
I don't know if it's stranger that Zoe Saldana stars in 4 of the 6 two billion dollar films or that she's always been either a green or blue alien while doing so. Still, good for her!
I love Zoe Saldana she's so talented so beautiful
Lol, funny observation 🍻
She's the female Samuel L Jackson. The ultimate support female character. 😅
Could've been anyone.. she has been in the right place. She is very good actress and very likeable..
From Star Trek to Avatar too Guardians Of The Galaxy
Grace, I purchased my ticket to avatar 2 while watching this week’s movie math! This will be my first time seeing the movie and my first time back in a theater since December 2019. I discovered your channel during the panny, and you’ve been the best edutainment ever 🤗 thanks for keeping us informed-I think your excitement for the industry and avatar 2’s performance in particular inspired me to go back to the theater :)
i hope you enjoy the film! it's wonderful. welcome back to the world of cinema! ❤️🎭🎥
The movie is a masterpiece. Hope you enjoy it.
Should've saw Tenet in the cinema. Missed out on a masterpiece there
Umm you should have seen Top Gun Maverick in theaters! 🤔😳
What a great note to get! I'm so glad you're going to check out Avatar before it loses its best screens - I hope you have a wonderful time back at the movies! That I was able to play even a small part in it means a lot :). Thank you for the kind words too!
I went to watch it this weekend for a second time in IMAX, and it was a FULL theater. I could t believe it.
“Believe it”(Morphius voice)
Same. Last night our IMAX screening was full too. Wild to see that after so many weeks.
AVATAR!!! I have seen 10+ times!
I took a friend this past weekend, and my theater was sold out. It was nice seeing its still going strong.
Grace! I just saw Puss in Boots last night, and even though everyone on social media was giving it endless praise, I still enjoyed it more than I expected to! I loved the different types of antagonists, the cricket, the world building, and perrito! Puss is now one of my favorite animated characters, thanks for being the first to recommend me this movie!
I liked Puss in Boots more than Avatar 2
Nice, bro! Good for you, man! That is so good and it really awesome that people are enjoying this film, dude!
@@taejasper1343 Yeah, it's a really good film!
I caught Avatar right on time today. I was very surprised that not only was it still in IMAX, but it was quite full for 12:30pm. It's incredible the amount of people still watching it. I did mention to my husband that I would like to visit the movie theater more often this year. We'll see if we check out more movies these coming months, aside from Marvel and DC.
Avatar gained a huge audience through the younger characters, 3 will be even bigger
Did it? The audience isn't larger than the first one.
@@Mrchasez box office numbers tells it did
I'm not sure how many tho.. i hadn't watched the first one but really enjoyed this..
For me it felt like a documentary 😂
@@Mrchasez Not this shit again. Shut up, and take the L next year.
need to beat the first avatar, first 😊
18:33 "My theater just erupted when Jesus was resurrected"
That quote made me laugh out loud
I had no doubts about this movie! Avatar is a phenomenon franchise! 💙
Exactly. Nobody around me knew Avatar 2 dropped. I live in NYC and work in a very busy area, and yet no one has spoken or raved about seeing Avatar 2. How did this movie gross 2 billion? I keep finding this strange.
Still haven’t seen Avatar 2, but this video has convinced me to get tickets with my friends! Thanks again Grace for the great standard of content
Get a move on!!!!! You’ll love it
It was made for the big screen, specifically on 3D.
A lot of people have not and yet this has already grossed 2 Billion? I find that strange.
@@xanderdumas1682 Are you retarded? Do you know everyone in the world?
hi grace! thought you’d want to know that in the UK, i am a member of a cinema chain called everyman. the experience is incredible every time i go and they do ‘throwback’ screenings all the time of old movies where the tickets come with free food and drinks. i went to back to the future and terminator 1 and 2 recently and really enjoyed those movies on the big screen.
Back To The Future 😍
Avatar! Let’s go! Really appreciate all the work that you do Grace. Keep it up!
Screening classic movies on imax screens during downtime might be the smartest thing I’ve ever heard. I would a billion percent pay to see a Back to the Future or a Jaws on a huge screen like that. A+++ suggestion in my book, Grace!
Our Marcus theater sold out of QUANTUMANIA in less than an hour🤯. I barely got our normal seats & we’ve always set in the same one, an MCU tradition🎉.
I love Storm Reid in Euphoria! Playing the younger sister to Zendaya’s drug abused character is a tough gig
She's amazing in that
Babe wake up! The new Movie Math is up!
Or for myself in the UK 🇬🇧 stay up for a little longer new movie math
5am here in Cambodia 😅
Grace, binged all episodes of The White Lotus 2 this weekend, so good! And it had a both dark and fun ending. Big hopes for a next season, if they make one.
It’s confirmed for a third! 😊
@@bryansellner2943 Excellent!
I've been hearing great things about it. What is it rlly about ?? I dont mind minor spoilers. I just dont want to commit time cuz maybe im gonna drop it.
And to think a few months ago everyone doubted this movie would not make $2 billion but this just proves that… 🎵 His name is James, James Cameron the bravest pioneer no budget too steep, no sea too deep who’s that? It’s him! James Cameron🎵
Not everyone maybe a lot of people but there were lot of people who didn't doubt including me.
(Flicks on a lighter and holds it up)
@@nailinthefashion Grace definitely doubted it would make this much. Evidence in videos
@@MaxxRemKing1 it's just an emoji lmao
The only people doubting this film were deluded marvel fanboys. It’s the sequel to the biggest film of all time.
Grace the funny thing is I will say I have seen Avatar 2 three times. Twice in XD and once in Dolby and it looked SO much better in Dolby I couldn’t figure out why.
The problem with movie theatres in my city is they're built on the edge of town, in the big box store area, while the entertainment district and the university are downtown. It's only about four miles to the movie theatres, but without good public transit, students and downtown dwellers have to decide if they want to stay downtown to drink, eat, and listen to live music or a show, OR drive to the movie theatre and then drive back downtown to round out the evening. Most students are gonna choose to stay downtown every time. I bet AMC could easily recoup their investment in a downtown movie theatre, like we had back in the 60s and 70s.
Hi Grace! Love your content, and I always look fwd to movie math! I watched Avatar 2 yesterday for the 4th time, this time in D-Box Cinemark XD and it was such a blast! Though I definitely felt the 3 hours this time around, I still really enjoyed it.
The D box was a bit distracting at first, but it really had me looking forward to the action sequences. It was at its best when the skimwings were on screen, and the HFR was perfect for the underwater scenes.
I saw it 2 times. 4DX & IMAX. I was thinking about seeing it in Regal RPX format next.
@@Edd-zd5wb damn, you’re right
@@sonicsnake44 Aw man I wish I could watch it in 4DX! The seat technology is wayy better than D-Box
@@billycheezburg I don't think I ever heard of D-Box but I love 4DX It's the thing that got me going back to the movies ever since I first experience it with No way home.
glad to hear our favorite fearless hero has now made three times its budget at the box office; it really deserves it
It’s always nice to see anime films in the top ten. I had planned to go see Scarlet Bond but weather intervened.
And on top of that, I found out that our closest Regal theater is closing next month. 😢
Hi Grace! Love the vid! Just wanted to say that I just got back from Sundance where I attended the world premiere of Infinity Pool, and I laughed quite a bit when you said you thought it was going to be weird. You all are in for quite a ride! 😂
My local theatre chain was playing old movies at the imax during 2020 and 2021 when there weren’t many movies being released. I went a couple of times when there were literally only 5 other people at the theatre. It was a blast! Im all for re-release films in premium format.
was sitting with my food hitting refresh waiting for you to upload before i could start eating
Thank you for always bringing us Movie Math Grace!! Never a Sunday night without it
It's the 5th movie in history to gross $2 billion in its initial release (after Avatar 1, Star Wars 7, The Avengers 3 and The Avengers 4). Titanic grossed $2 billion when it was re-released in 2012
Avatar 2 beats infinity war with 2.055 billion
@@geethalakshmi6872 this is how the top 10 would look like without re-releases:

2 - Avatar 1 (2009) - $2.743 billion
3 - Star Wars 7 (2015) - $2.068 billion
4 - Avatar 2 (2022) - $2.053 billion*

Happy New Year Grace!
Thank god for another BTT video! Always excited to see you Grace 💜
i hope this shows some executives that movies dont have to be necessarily 2 hours or less, the top 5 movies are way longer than that. all it takes is a good story and a good movie.
Poor M3gan falling 416%😢
M3gan was crappy movie that's why it fail . anyone with a brain of a Squirrel can tell it was a girl in a face mask pretending to be a Robot.
@@givehonestanswer5508 sort of like anyone with a brain knew that everything on screen in Avatar is a digital illusion but millions of suckers still gave James billions
@ Give Honest Answer… I think someone was being sarcastic bud, Grace made a graphics booboo. Lol
Someone is not as clever to know their keyboard typos. And it’s not Ethan. Just my honest opinion :-*
That drop means M3gan would owe us money 🤣 😂
I got back into watching movies at the theater with _The Force Awakens,_ following it up with _Where to Invade Next, Hail Caesar, Concussion,_ and _The Big Short._ I think _Avatar: The Way of Water_ may be doing the same for people. But this time around there's not a lot to excite people to return to the theater.
In my home town the Cinemark theater I frequent has 4 XD premium screens all with recliners and a few rows with 4D Box seats. I thought this was the standard because even the Regal theater in my home town has two IMAX screens at theirs. I didn’t realize most theaters only had one premium screen
Lol same for me. Do you live in Pembroke Pines?
@@brandonfoote21 I don’t feel comfortable revealing these information online 🙈
Missing gave me the movie-going experience I’ve been yearning for; go see this movie (twists go CRAZY)
I was not a huge fan of the first Avatar but I respect it for its incredible visuals and effect of vfx, and I was excited about the way of water after some people who didn’t care for the first came out saying they liked it. However I just got out of seeing it and I liked it even less than the first. I know not all movies are for everyone, but I genuinely cannot tell what people like so much about this movie and franchise as a whole. If someone who is a big fan can enlighten me I would very much appreciate it!
Nobody can enlighten you because it's a simple matter of you having watched the exact same thing as everyone else did and having a different response to it. You didn't miss anything, you simply have different taste; taste cannot be (reliably) explained or rationalised. :)
Better emotional story about family and whaling. Better visuals and underwater beauty. Better and varied leads because of the youngsters. Villain more complex. The list goes on but your opinion is valid.
You should've watch it in 3D in a big screen
@@tarcisiomateus1506 I watched it in IMAX 3D, and visually it was an awesome experience, the movie itself just lacked any depth for me personally
Cameron casted the biggest worldwide net for the story and screenplay. So it’s relatable to people of different cultures. The CGI is the icing on the cake!
He did it grace! You had your doubts but james did it. 😆 thanks for the video grace
Missing was surprisingly very good! very thrilling the whole way through
Hey Grace, you probably don’t remember me, but these videos really help to calm me down and help me relax.
I’ve been really busy lately and watching your videos helps me escape reality and take away my stress.
Hi Grace! Just want to say the movie theater next to my work has only 3 screens and every Wednesday they show a classic movie at 7:00pm.
Also, I finished binging both seasons of The White Lotus with my boyfriend (and we LOVED it 😍) and then we watched The Menu- neither of us liked it ☹️
Galaxy Theaters near me added a second DFX theater, which is their premium format, so there's now two screens showing it in HFR. 3D DFX HFR is an option, and one of each.
That all time list is the reason I don't trust people to give good movie suggestions. Mind boggling.
I really would like to have the opportunity to watch old blockbusters again in cinema.
Harry Potter / Lord of the Ring/Jaws /Terminator / James Bond / F&F / Jurassic Park / Pirates / Star Wars/ Marvel marathons anybody ? ! ?
Lords of the rings
Happy for The Best Man on peacock, they can definitely bring on more chapters.
Armageddon Time was solid. Watching Fair Play online from Sundance.
Avatar the way of water has made over 1 billion from 3D showtimes.
you posted this as i was in the theater (seeing it for the first time!) ha! but as someone who has a busy & set work schedule i had to plan to see it specifically today bc i’ve been busy this past month on every other day off. i bet there’s people out there like me who still plan to see it potentially before it’s gone! so i could totally see it getting a little more of a boost as it draws to the end of its theatrical run! i wouldn’t be surprised if it can still easily overcome star wars and infinity war!
Looks like Zoe Saldana is in at least four movies that has made at least $2 billion now (all four of them are Disney properties as well)
We need James Gunn announcement this week my patience is almost gone at this point January is so dry!
...and what a 2 billion snail "Avatar 2: the Way of water" is! I'm already all in for Avatar 3!
"Harrison Ford eats up paychecks like how Sonic eats up gold COINS!"

here's a thought if Amc theaters were to buy the closing regal cinema theaters. Is it possible that the rebuilding of those theaters could include definitely 2 dolby cinema theaters and for some two imax theaters depending on their locations!?!
Grace, what’s the best way to watch avatar2? IMAX 3d or Dolby?
I live way out there without a premium screen at all. My local theater had one screen for 3d and it was their smallest one.
I just saw puss in boots this past weekend at it was so amazing
Cameron really wanted the Puss/Boots franchise but they wouldn’t give it to him with his lackluster story telling so its back to Pandora
2 Dolby & 2 IMAX screens in each Theater lol, my local AMC only changed the sign outside when they changed companies. & only upgraded once probably since it opened. Plus talking about seeing the content on the best premium screens but yet only uploads in 720p in 4K + world for your videos.
I've watched it in IMAX weeks ago, but I really want to watch it in *IMAX 3D* a second time.
However, my current circumstances won't allow me.. 😩
I hope you can do it!!
Can't wait to learn more about Shrek 5. Not so sure if we need another Shrek movie, but it will be interesting to see in what direction they will go.
They would really want to make up for the last 2. I'd imagine they know they screwed up there.
1:54 this actually works in favour of the theatres. The longer a movie is in the theatre, the bigger their cut of the ticket sales are.
They shouldn't had kept a 3 weeks long gap between theatre and streaming for Glass Onion. Things mellow after a week if you don't keep it on the big screen.
Jimmy did !! OMG hehe
I'm going to watch Avatar 2 again but this time in IMAX and 3D! It'll be my 1st time for IMAX ! I can't wait :)
That Hanks video was from 2 years ago. People were just hating on it in spite of it being a 2020 video
got my tickets for next weekend.
Great Stuff, as always!
10:24 I remember SEARCHING was hard to find in theaters when it came out. for some reason there was no showings for it in many theaters. I had to drive far to see it. That's probably why it made only $6 million. I know... I was looking forward to it for weeks and it never showed in theaters around me in L.A. except for a few. I know cause when it finally went digital I also had to search hard for it.
Was the movie When You Finish Saving the World in limited release? It is playing here and we are nowhere near a big market. It wasn't in the top ten which I thought was odd considering who's in it.
I love your Movie Math videos. So well done 👏🏻
I still need to see Avatar!! What screen is recommended? Idk the different between Dolby and imax
Obviously IMAX
Imax.
AMC Prime is great! I prefer it to IMAX.
Dolby>Prime>IMAX>Regular>>>>>>3D
I don't know what movie theaters are gonna do about June 😰
June will be a tough month I will be surprised if any movie coming out in June passes a billion
A snail? It hasn't even been 1.5 months!
Megan dropped 416% wow and still top 3, very impressive 🙊
So it took until January of 2023 for the Box Office to have all of its weekend top 10 movies to make over a million dollars, almost 3 years since every movie theater shutdown.
Got to see Puss In Boots and was disappointed lol with all the hype was expecting to be wowed or something😭 I should’ve saw Megan.
I watched Passion of the Christ in an empty cinema with two nuns… I deeply regretted my purchase of popcorn 🍿 felt very inappropriate in hindsight 😮
In sweden i think we got 2 Imax by now, that you may watch blockbusters in.
I’ve still not seen this film. Low motivation plus school holidays makes it hard to go to the cinema.
Universal only releases these films POD in the states within the 14day window. Here in Australia were ain't getting puss in boots the last wish on POD or DVD til March. Perhaps they feel they're bought mostly by people who will not go to the movies.
Hanks looks like he’s ready to start yelling at clouds.
New York is not everywhere else - 2 Imax & 2 dolby? Most places have neither
Maybe we are going back to the days of larger, but fewer screens, and epic movies with an intermission.
Awesome
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is opening in China next month at the cinemas. Wonder how that will affect its global box office take.
Depends on how deep the chinese nationalsm and the han superiority complex have grown i suppose ;)
House Party didn’t even get a theatrical release here in Aus., WB plonked it onto Apple & Amazon for a $25 purchase with next to no advertising.
Also, because it’s obligatory, James Cameron is gonna have four(!) of the Top Five highest grossing movies of all time… The man does not miss at the box office & can not be betted against
Grace, speaking of theaters expanding, just heard the Union Square Regal is closing after some MAJOR renovations! Would you make a ‘state of the movie theaters’ video??
Movie Math has been a staple of my Sunday evenings for years
*GO WATCH PUSS IN BOOTS IN THEATERS, it is so good and so sad* 😭❤️
Don't these theaters have to get some kind of zoning permit too, for certain premium auditoriums?
When to see it for a second time and there where a lot more people. Had to buy my ticket almost a day before
Renovating or updating a theatre is so so expensive and real estate alone would make it impossible to have 2 IMAXs or even 2 Dolbys
One of the Avatar sequels will be the first $3B when you factor in fully functioning China/Russia, inflation and increasing craziness of the story
Nah. I am pretty sure you can expect a Morgenthau-planned Russia after the war and a China after their inevitable collapse not to do a lot for the box office. Both will barely scrape by by Avatar 3's release...
