    i have the same Gl1800 and i have to say,,,, i agree with those busted myths, no problem at all for me to ride in town or loose gravel or sand, also,,,, winding roads are awesome to de on the Wing, ONE extra,,,, it's WAY faster then most bikers like to admit, lol, thanks for this video, it's great.

    Just found your channel (yes I subscribed) what a great vlog. Love the Goldwing. It was so sweet when you gave Claire a Dad hug.
    It certainly busted some myths I was harbouring. 👍

    Hey Steve, I have the exact same bike, totally agree on all counts. Really the only thing limiting the cornering is ground clearance cranked over, still way more than most cruisers.
    And nothing beats the wing for carrying a pillion.

    • @standupmoto
      @standupmoto  16 дней назад +1

      Thanks mate, yeah you’d be pretty hard pressed to find a bike with a happier pillion 👍

    Just bought a 2006 model in immaculate condition. Enjoying every second cruising along. I also have a KTM 1290 Super Adventure which has been my daily ride for 3 years, but found myself chugging along in slow speed enjoying the scenery more than anything, and concluded i don't need the crazy power anymore, so KTM going up for sale shortly together with my "Itchdy Boots crush" Honda 300 CRF. Thanks for the excellent video reminding me that Goldwing does not have to limit the boundaries... It's normally the rider that does that.

    • @standupmoto
      @standupmoto  16 дней назад +2

      Yes everything you said makes sense for sure, probably a good idea to hang on to the “IBC” 300 though, always nice to have a lightweight trail muncher in the shed.👍 ps (congrats on the 06, I think that’s identical to my 07)

    Glad you’re back! I really enjoy your long reviews and shorter ride impression videos. Thanks for dispelling some of these myths I held about the GW. Love the induction sound on that flat 6. Have always wanted a Valkyrie but thought it might be too heavy. Hmmm after watching this video maybe it’s not…🤠

      @standupmoto  16 дней назад +2

      Cheers thanks mate, glad you enjoyed the vid! 👍 & good to be back on deck, have been on the sidelines with a couple of broken ribs. The Valkyrie is a top ride, sort of like a naked Wing.

    I've owned literally a hundred different motorcycles. The gl1800 is the absolute best. I also invented the reverse trike conversion system "endeavor trikes" I ride dirt gravel and even water crossing on my gl1800 sport trike.

    Gday mate i can agree with every so called myth that you mentioned , i am not a dirt rider had a very bad experience a long time ago so i stick clear of them . they are a big bike but no more really than a voyager or a ultra . i have had comments when i mention a gold wing that they should have called it a lead wing well these people need to look at the weight of other large tourers not much difference at all . Yes people say the same thing when i talk about a goldwing "why not just buy a car " because of the freedom your in the elements not inside a cage ,when the light turns green your gone there still waiting and as you say most of them have never ridden . I find it amazing that with a country as large as ours that there are not more goldwings about take care .

    • @standupmoto

    I got passed by one going over the Port Hills (Christchurch new Zealand), yes I was taking it easy and he was on a mission, and I chased him all the way round the bays to Diamond Harbour. Damn, they do corner surprisingly well.....😂

    • @standupmoto
      @standupmoto  16 дней назад

      Yes I agree, the size is a bit misleading. Wind them up with good rubber and they are they really can move along for a big bike.

  • @tonyjourneyman1944

    Probably not a bike for me, but nice video. After ridiculing Harleys for years, I finally rode one, very, very nice. It's easy to have negative misconceptions is my point.

    • @standupmoto
      @standupmoto  16 дней назад +1

      Yes it's easy to be biased until you try something, human nature I guess. Have to say I’m yet to review a HD, not by choice- just the opportunity hasn’t arisen. (Yet)

      Love my '07 to but the gearbox is to noisy and clunky I hate shifting lol...

    • @standupmoto
      @standupmoto  12 дней назад +2

      @@seatime674 Yes they do get a bit clunky with high mileage but it doesn’t seem to affect them, as in no jumping or false neutrals like some brands. Enjoy the old girl, they’ll probably never make one with the character of the GL1800 again. In saying that although vastly different the current model really is a gem of a thing to ride , especially with that DCT.

    • @seatime674
      @seatime674 12 дней назад +1

      @@standupmoto What's ironic is there is only 15K miles on it, ha. I'm on the GL1800 forums and it's a known issue '01-17 has clunky loud gears especially going from 1st to 2nd it's like hitting a refrigerator with a hammer. The gears are so short I find myself taking off in 2nd anyway.. It's the quietest when cold and when it heats up it gets worse, some people put in 20w/50 it stands to reason the motor likes thicker oil before it gets too hot and thin to quiet the gears better.. Yep I've got my eyes peelef for a 22+ but if not Luv my '07😉

    • @standupmoto
      @standupmoto  16 дней назад +1

      Yes that’s right, a bit of common sense & planning goes a long way. Most manufacturers advertise bikes for a certain purpose where in reality they are far more versatile. 👍

    I ride about 5% in gravel, it is just the best option for me. Keys stay around 20mph (32 KMH), stay vertical, same on the pavement apron. The transition to and from pavement is the worst.

    • @standupmoto
      @standupmoto  14 дней назад +1

      Yes agreed, that transition from one to the other can be a bit tricky especially when the ridge is high.

  • @oldoldpilgrim7898
    @oldoldpilgrim7898 16 дней назад +1

    The "why don't you just ride a car" question might be prompted by Goldwing riders tendency to say "it's just like a car".

    • @standupmoto
      @standupmoto  16 дней назад +3

      Maybe there’s something in that but the statement should say “it’s just like a car but with the freedom that only comes from riding a motorcycle” 👍

      Are those RM’s you were wearing in the city sequence? Very nice. I like the leadwing. I owned a 1975 GL1000 sidecar back in the 80’s. I regret selling it. I think it’s hard to go past Honda engineering. Having said that, I prefer the relative simplicity of my Road King. The Goldwing is an absolute icon of motorcycling. I definitely see the appeal of them.

    • @standupmoto
      @standupmoto  13 дней назад +1

      @@bruiser6479 Yes mate RM’s, well sighted. Looking forward to spending some time on one of the HD’s hopefully not too far into the future, maybe a King or Glide. I am yet to review one.

      @bruiser6479 13 дней назад +1

      @ I think you will enjoy riding them. I was surprised by how much I like the RK. It’s a much more competent bike than I anticipated. The big thing for me is that my wife is happy to be a pillion on it. Mind you, I think she would really rate a Goldwing. Keep up the good work with your channel. I think you do a great job with your videos.
