They also added the VHS-like noise in the songs from the Disney's Renaissance's movies until The Princess and the Frog. It's not as noticeable except on black.
Just as Studio Ghibli movie music take Japanese people down their memory lane, Walt Disney movie music takes Americans down their memory lane, too. I noticed it seemed easier for both of you to play pieces that were more "classical" in construction than those pieces which were more "country/western" sounding in their tone.
More contemporary pieces were not composed for an instrument like the violin to take the melody line, that's for sure. It ends up being a bit of a square peg in a round hole sound. Going back to the stuff composed in the mid 20th century it had a much more euro-centric classical styling.
My 10 month old son watched this with me, it was the first time he heard solo violinist/saw one play and I think you cast a spell on the little man. He's completely mesmerised by it.
4:50 colors of the wind has always been a beautiful song (a gem among the trash that was pocahontas) but the way brett preformed it was absolutely breathtaking. @@zoettesy9676 completely inaccurate to the original story of pocahontas. if disney wanted a white-worshipping, pretty, native american princess, they should've just made one up, not use the name of teenage girl who was kidnapped into marrying john smith and raped while in captivity.
@@zoettesy9676 pocahontas is a real person who was stolen by John Smith as a child 10-12. Her real name is ctually Motoaka. The movie makes Natives seem like "savages" and are the ones who were aggressive and in the wrong. Its all just extremely gross. Disney has a history of making Natives seem like "savages" and not even make her dress like her own tribe, the Powhatan tribe.
Yep, it’s called phrasing and breaths lol (technical term luftpause). This is written into the music. It SHOULD be played as it would be sung. Breaths are very important in music, it’s like a mini rest and is needed to stay on time and get the phrasing of the passage right. Although breathing is not part of playing the instrument, you still physically need to take a breath there to get the timing correct. If you play a wind/brass instrument or are a vocalist, you are meant to actually take a breath, but for other instruments it is just a slight pause. Most people still physically take a breath though because you need the specific amount of time it takes to take a breath for that pause to be timed correctly. Just don’t gasp very loudly. 😂 It looks like ‘ in sheet music, sometimes it is notated and sometimes not. Breaths have their own value/measurement lol. You can hear the difference in playing when someone takes the time to stop and breathe and when they don’t. Sometimes this is meant to be a moment to reset your bow as well.
I would love to see full covers of these Disney songs including Hercules - Go the Distance, Mulan - Reflection, and Hunchback of Notre Dame - God Help the Outcast and Out there
If you like these classics, I recommend checking out some barbershop - you can thank me later. Notre Dame Medley by Ringmasters and Go the Distance by Vocal Spectrum are a couple of absolute S tier performances. Hold out to the end of the songs for some spectacular held notes!
yeah man fr, I really like the old disney stuff. When I heard the newer stuff, I still thought it was good, but it just feels to me like the melodies aren't as strong in the newer pieces, since they rely more on lyrics than RAW music
This was a real trip down memory lane 🥺 Whether it sounds like more classical or pop music, there is no denying that Disney has the most beautifully iconic and memorable songs!
Cinderella and Snow White has exactly same chords and even the intervals are almost the same. The melody has just different rhytms almost... Pinocchio is also quite similar... That's kind of interesting. Also the younger songs don't emphasize melodies that much.
In Disney's infancy, as a movie company. They didn't have a lot of funds to pay composers to write different prices so they more than likely reused and revamped existing themes throughout different films. Ur observation is correct bc of this
Thankyou brett and eddy for this disney episode. I personally love the ones played by eddy cos i can feel and hear the characters sing. It is so emotional.
The Toy Story series has such an intense feeling of nostalgia that it's insane. Even for those like me who got into it when 3 of them were already out. Unlike other movies who try to leave everything off with a good feeling, the Toy Stories were somehow crafted with pure nostalgia. It's an emotion I cannot describe.
I think the memorability has mostly been recovered since about 2010 though, Tangled, Moana, Frozen, Coco, and Encanto are all absolutely iconic. It was a rough patch for sure, but musically I think they’re back on track
I've tried several times now to write a comment that would properly convey my feelings about this video, but...I don't think I can. Your playing is so soulful and evocative that it seems inappropriate to try and describe it in words. So all I'll say is that you did a truly spectacular job, guys, and you should definitely be proud of yourselves.
PLEASE play full covers of Colors of the Wind and At Last I see the Light!! Something about those two really got to me and I’d really love to hear full versions of them. (I literally cried lol)
Aw this was lovely & so nostalgic. I wouldve also loved seeing them play "the second star on the right" from peter pan...i feel that one is also iconic. Or "you can fly". And other oldies such as from Aristocats & Lady and the tramp...theres only so much they can fit tho. Maybe a part 2?😳
Same. There are a number of "classic" films I would have loved to have seen, even the good old Mickey theme as well. Maybe they were worried about length when they picked the list?
I know u cant really make many expressions when playing but it's funny when Brett plays Under The Sea with a straight face... Like " can I just get this over with" energy is exerting 😂
I would love to know your opinions on the difficulty of different Broadway musics. I realize you guys really love your classical and that's awesome I have nothing whatsoever against it. But I've heard that some passages from Broadway music can be incredibly difficult. I've heard violin is complain about the difficulty of the journey to the cemetery sequence in The phantom of the Opera just before wishing you were somehow here again. That's just one example. Opinion video maybe?
Like stage musicals, Disney movie musicals mimic the style of the popular music of the time. As a voice teacher of a lot of teens who love musicals and Disney musicals especially, I’ll find myself using this video to illustrate that point in lessons with them. Thanks Brett and Eddy!!
@@JolieJuve37 did I end up saying something else? I'm legally blind and used talk to text. It tends to freak out on me. Have a brain fart kind of day and it gets worse lol.
Cool to see Brett and Eddie play these movie anthems that aren't in their classical music forte. You can tell as time went on, the songs got more focused towards the different cultures the movies based on and not all of them fit with a violin as the musical instrument of choice but I appreciate the effort. (As a nitpick, Toy Story was made by Pixar before they were acquired by Disney so technically Disney had nothing to do with that movie's music unlike Brave which was created after the acquisition.)
I love the analysis, but I have to nitpick a bit. Toy Story was the first collab movie between Pixar and Disney. The deal was written in 1991 and Toy Story was released in 1995.
I'd buy an album if TSV finished playing all these Disney songs! The early Disney songs are especially suited for solo violin. Well done, thanks for the memories. GK
I feel like Brett's never listened to "Almost There" before and was just sight-reading. Was missing a lot of the swing to that song. 😂 Excellent playing overall. I really enjoyed this. 🤗
I could definitely hear some struggling with some of the faster songs. "Almost There" was the most obvious one, but I heard it in "Under the Sea" and "You'll Be In My Heart." I think for faster songs like that you need to play in more of fiddle style than traditional violin style maybe??
Oh my gosh I love all of the covers! specially Eddy with "Remember me" and Brett with "Pocahontas" and "Touch the Sky" Then the final touch of both "We don't talk about Bruno"🥰
You guys are awesome! When you played "Remember me" I started to cry, because I saw "Coco" a while ago and when that song was played, I thought of my dear grandma who passed away in January this year. She meant alot to me ❤ and that song will always remind me of her.

He is actually around an age where these movies were in his youth, he probably isn’t overly familiar with them because he didn’t want to play them on the violin or because he might have had different movies/entertainment in his childhood.

I just realized how much disney has been a huge part of my childhood, even until now as I'm entering adulthood, I still love watching their films and always loved their songs and music, and I really appreciate their works. I'd say for me my favorites would always be the films from the 90's and early 00's, probably cuz that's what I grew up with. There's this attachment to those films, maybe cuz when I was younger, as I child you view the world and everything you see in it as an adventure waiting for you to explore it and face them with all this hunger and curiosity inside you to wander around your vast sea of imagination. Feeling lil bit nostalgic, sometimes. Maybe that's how it really is sometimes when you grow older.

At that time cartoons just used to have more classical oriented soundtracks
I had no idea "Colours of the Wind" sounded so beautiful on a violin. I am delighted with this melody 🤩
yeah, brought tears to my eyes
And Brett played it so beautifully❤
Oh the instrumental version of Colors of the Wind was phenomenal
I like how the more classic ones til like the 70s all feel very “dreamy”
First let's appreciate Editor-san effort in making the scenes change and give out the feeling if old film or old TV.
90's Disney is the best for me. And I really want to go on a carpet ride with Brett cos his A Whole New World is so good. ❤️
90s era is best for me too, but I’m biased as I was growing up and watching all those movies at the time
I do think 90s was peak disney
@@sarasate89 True. It's just masterpiece after masterpiece. And We're not that biased, these films stood the test of time!
As a Disney fan, twosetter, and violinist, this made my day lol :)). Keep it up guys!! xoxo

Exactly
I mean the music are so beautiful ☺️

my two favorite movies of all time lol
You should definitly do a full "We Don't Talk About Bruno" cover!
As to this video, unforgivable not including 1996's "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" and 1997's "Hercules"!
Keep up your excellent content!
I missed those too..
Unforgivable indeed. I was waiting for Someday and Go The Distance!!
Also vaiana/moana, ratatouille, frozen 2...they missed quiet a few
There were 7 songs from the 90s. That’s plenty. Would’ve preferred to uncover some lesser known hidden gems.
@@Angelika5378 they played How Far I'll Go from Moana

i think they sounded real good
We don't talk about how TwoSet sounded playing we don't talk about Bruno. LOL.
@@truggles120 haha didn't think of that
Yeah it was ok
you can tell which ones adapt well to violin and which are better suited to the original arrangement, but bro yall did good with We Don't Talk About Bruno... the actual duettttt... but it's always good to hear melodies like classic disney and newer stuff from Tangled, Moana etc on violin
brett and eddy did a wonderful job as usual :D but did anyone notice that the editing changed between different time periods ??? like before 1:53 the video had some static, before 2:16 it was kind of faded and sepia, and after that it became colorful like regular movies nowadays. thank you editor-san for making the video feel authentic!!
They also added the VHS-like noise in the songs from the Disney's Renaissance's movies until The Princess and the Frog. It's not as noticeable except on black.
@@Thersyl Ah yes, tape hiss.
@@Thersyl so so cool!!!
Not only Americans.
Disney movies can be seen in Europe too, yknow
Now they need to do Ghibli too.
@@r.g.nonetheless5663 they already did!
Lol born and raised in America; Studio Ghibli had an influence on me no doubt as well.
The nostalgia is hitting hard🥺 I absolutely loved Eddy's 'I see the light' and Brett's 'colors of the wind' and the duet at the end was awesome❤️❤️
Honesty those were my two favorites and I'll make a man out of you😂
My 10 month old son watched this with me, it was the first time he heard solo violinist/saw one play and I think you cast a spell on the little man. He's completely mesmerised by it.
4:50 colors of the wind has always been a beautiful song (a gem among the trash that was pocahontas) but the way brett preformed it was absolutely breathtaking. I would LOVE to see a full version, it gave me chills
Additionally "almost there" has always been my favorite disney song (p & t f my favorite animated movie of all time) and that sounded incredible as well
Why is pocahontas trash?
@@zoettesy9676 completely inaccurate to the original story of pocahontas. if disney wanted a white-worshipping, pretty, native american princess, they should've just made one up, not use the name of teenage girl who was kidnapped into marrying john smith and raped while in captivity.
@@zoettesy9676 historically inaccurate storyline?
@@zoettesy9676 pocahontas is a real person who was stolen by John Smith as a child 10-12. Her real name is ctually Motoaka. The movie makes Natives seem like "savages" and are the ones who were aggressive and in the wrong. Its all just extremely gross. Disney has a history of making Natives seem like "savages" and not even make her dress like her own tribe, the Powhatan tribe.
@@dollienan oh thanks for explaining, I didnt knew
I like how they end the phrases just like how the singers would finish singing their line, and breathe after that.
I would love to see full covers of these Disney songs including Hercules - Go the Distance, Mulan - Reflection, and Hunchback of Notre Dame - God Help the Outcast and Out there
Yeees, also Bella Notte, Married life, Le Festin, and So this is love
The Hercules sound track is always so underestimated. Needs move love.

old disney music just hits different 😌
So true
yeah man fr, I really like the old disney stuff. When I heard the newer stuff, I still thought it was good, but it just feels to me like the melodies aren't as strong in the newer pieces, since they rely more on lyrics than RAW music

This feels like a karaoke show. I really felt the violins sing and sometimes could even hear the text. Beautiful!

As a jazz musician, I must admit it was quite funny to see Brett try to get a jazzy feel lol
Is there any doubt that they're folk songs made by dead people for other dead and are all the same brass song played by strings?

Thankyou brett and eddy for this disney episode. I personally love the ones played by eddy cos i can feel and hear the characters sing. It is so emotional.
The Toy Story series has such an intense feeling of nostalgia that it's insane.
Even for those like me who got into it when 3 of them were already out.
Unlike other movies who try to leave everything off with a good feeling, the Toy Stories were somehow crafted with pure nostalgia. It's an emotion I cannot describe.
Once Upon A Dream is actually the garland waltz from the sleeping beauty ballet by Tchaikovsky with lyrics (:
The Encanto duet was fab! I must say the old tunes from the last century are the most memorable though.
We need a full Bruno cover 💚
I agree, Encanto songs sound like a weird mix of modern trap beats with a latino twist on it... I don't really like it.
@@ellacielo8518 That would be great!
(I literally cried lol)
from what i learned from this video it started like classical orchestra style then slowly died into more contemporary/pop-ish style
Your Colors of the Wind was TOO beautiful. It was as though you were singing through your violin.
I know right. I would love a full version of that. 💗

Im the person that’s actually crying :,)
I kept replaying 8:31 and my dad came in my room asking if i was okay 😂 hes never seen Coco but understood the feels. It was wonderful!
And the emotion just written all over Eddy's face didn't help, I'm sure!
You mean Phantom of the Opera
Sweeney Todd's orchestration sounds a bit challenging to pull off.
Like stage musicals, Disney movie musicals mimic the style of the popular music of the time. As a voice teacher of a lot of teens who love musicals and Disney musicals especially, I’ll find myself using this video to illustrate that point in lessons with them. Thanks Brett and Eddy!!
Review Katrina Lenks - if i were a rich man performance on youtube! So interested in your guys opinion on the unique violin/singing style!!
Your cover of colors of the wind was beautiful! The flowing alternating tempo was awesome!
4:30
Breath-taking and brings childhood memories of a happier and carefree time. It makes you realise how powerful and critical music is to shaping movies.

This is so beautiful, it’s almost like someone singing and expressing the emotions without any lyrics or words.
Disney music is so classic, will it become a new branch of classical music in a hundred years?
How obvious it was that Brett wasn’t overly familiar with the 90s era songs made me FEEL my age 😂😂
He is actually around an age where these movies were in his youth, he probably isn’t overly familiar with them because he didn’t want to play them on the violin or because he might have had different movies/entertainment in his childhood.
Wow!! Love this!! The way Eddy captured the vibrado, it sounded like Snow White was singing! Brett playing When You Wish Upon A Star, caused all the nostalgia came flooding back! Guess I’ll be going to Disneyland now!! You both are exceptionally amazing!
i’m following a conductor who’s preparing a concert on disney soundtracks, and hearing the differences between the years is mind blowing! you guys as always caught the spirits of those movies (which for most of us are classics and parts of our childhood) perfectly, and made true justice to a part that is so often forgotten by others. thank you ❤️

Hey Brett and Eddy, I just found your stuff about a week ago and I’ve probably binged about 35% of your videos already.

Thank you for this amazing video of the evolution of Disney music on the violin. Hearing it from you guys as a pianist wow I can tell the older films adapted better for the violin compare to the more current films by the change of style & foundations of the music. “Someday My Prince will come” is definitely a favorite for the classics & loved how Eddie played it beautiful like the singer herself. “Remember Me” personally is my favorite in the current because the story behind it really hits home with me about my Grandma
