Hi Eddy I was stationed therefrom Jul66-Jun67 Only one paved road Just a couple of hotels. I has the pleasure of getting to open the first spa in town I was in a room on the second floor. I got undressed and looked at the tub just the tub and no facuets they brought the water up in buckets... We all lived in Thai homes and got to use the big jug and bucket to take our showers. It was a wonderful year. i got to drive all over the kingdom and saw many places that most GI never got to see. Best overseas tour in my 20 years.... Oh yes got my hair cut on a three legged stool at the road side. Larry
Put in the following & they should take you to an article & a Vid with photos of Udon during the Vietnam war years. Article BANGKOK EYES MIDNITE HOUR UDORN 60 70. Vid THAILAND UDONTHANI 60 70 ALONGKORN.
On heat: My first year of retirement was in Hua Hin, my second in Mazatlan. Then I did what most long-term expats do, I went up into the mountains. I have now been 15 years in mile-high Lake Chapala. White man in the tropics needs elevation. That is why the British Empire had hill stations in places like Darjeeling (India) and Cameron Highlands (Malaysia). A vacation is one thing, Eddy, retirement is another The heat will beat you up in the long run. (Workaround: Vampire hours. The winter I lived in Rio de Janeiro was blazing hot, but the bars and restaurants were buzzing all nite long. Many Copacabana residents are entirely nocturnal - a great revelation to me at the time.)
Watch out for the cartels.
Awesome Eddy, enjoyed your walk around, good stuff, cheers Marty 👍
Thanks 👍
Nice walk about thanks for sharing
udon thani is a provincial city in thailand’s less prosperous region. very similar to to many southeast asia places off the expat track. cheap rents; decent hospitals; airport, bus and train connections; lower cost of living; pleasantly normal thai people who aren’t into hustling, or even paying attention to, foreigners. if you dont need the expat monger scene and maybe have a long term relationship not bad at all. good to hear that you like ud town.
daiso (say it as die-so) is a japanese “100 yen” chain store that carries lots of inexpensive and nifty things.
pleasant video, thank you.
Thanks for your info
Interesting vid .. good to hear what UT is about
Thankyou
G'day Ed. Never been BUT I actually like visiting towns like this where they seem unpretentious and not packed with tourists. A place to really feel like you are in a Thai, working town yet with enough nightlife and eateries {for all tastes} to keep ME happy with anyway. Glad you have felt comfortable there mate. ;-]
Udon is well worth a visit. Just stay a while to appreciate it.
Great vid, enjoyed it. Been to Udon many times. Youll enjoy Nong Khai too. Its a lot sleepier than Udon but theres a nice walk along the banks of the Mekong once it cools down in the evening and a couple of bars on Soi Nittapat (Soi Boxing). The White Inn is also on the soi which is great value and close to everything.
Thanks for the tips!

Hi Eddie, Great video as always, nice walkabout town, keep the great work, cheers mate.
Thanks, will do! Good to hear from you.
Thank you Ed, Udon looks like a nice place it seems to have everything you want and need, it looks like Thailand is going to get very hot, take care in the sun mate.
Have a good weekend, mate
Interesting video
Great town the only negative for me not near the beach. I love these non tourist towns but every time i go to Thailand i got to be close to the beach.
Udon is a nice reprieve if you want to be a connoisseur of Thailand. Some guys push the ugly narrative and ignore the provinces. It's a town/city I immensely enjoyed with a scooter.
Yes! Thank god Ed, please show inside Central Plaza. Please show places to go during the day if it’s too hot or raining ☔️
any reason you change hotels?i enjoyed this video mate reckon it would make a few of us keen to go there, was the ladies enjoyable? it looks like a good visit mate
Eddie I loved it when u mentioned the rubbish, then. U did not see any .. priceless
hi eddie are you giving, this info for people from uk to go on holiday in,thailand or move there,to live im a bit confused at the moment in your content
Great video steady Eddie, love the music 🎵 on your videos 👍😉
Thanks 👍
Good video eddie
Scruffy? Well isn’t that the pot calling the kettle black! 😂😂
Issan isn't a province Eddie it's a region. It's like the North of England. It's non specific. Issan makes up over 30% of the country. In Thai Udon means "northern or North" Thani means "town" Udon Thani = North Town. Very funny video.... Its got everything, a fire station, tea rooms, post office, pokice station, schools. Are you absolutely sure you're not in the Thai equivalent of Trumpton.... Hugh, Pugh, Barney,Mcgrew, Cuthbert, Dibble, Grub 😂😂😂😂😂
You tell him 😂😂
Hi Eddy, Udon is a normal Thai town, Pattaya etc. are all tourist towns. A bit like saying Blackpool on a bank holiday weekend is a normal British town.😮😮
Does it make any difference if it's a province or a region we all know what he meant, get a life he's enjoying himself travelling around the Thailand at least he's not just doing the same old thing sticking to one city i.e Pattaya, Bangkok, the island of Phuket like everyone else does 😂😂😂
Ed should just do a bit of research of where he is as showing us a Burgerking is dull as is this vlog
@@pinball9324 if you don't like his vlogs, you know what to do, don't fucking watch them it's not rocket science is it pinball the troll
If you like Hamburgers, Aussie Pub on Nutty Park smokes the burgers from other good venues. UD town food cafeteria is amazing for quality Thai food, Hotel Moco is awesome too. If it fits the budget. By the bye, the pizza at Da Sofia is amazing and is a meal not a snack.
Who tf wants burgers in Thailand christ
@alucardcount9478 a foreign funded business that caters mostly for expats, isn't going to make money selling you 40 baht Pad thai's is it?. Stick to Khao san charlie.
@alucardcount9478 go ask the restaurant owners/ investors in any tourist or expat town. If your market is 5 baht moo ping sticks, 40 baht pad thai's that's your caper.
Interesting video I could live in somewere like this Khon Khean was nice Eddie a lot going on there more friendly in Issan I noticed it’s a lot cheaper for accommodation and food Edd where are you thinking of staying I thought Hua hin would suit you nice
Udon Thank looks good. I have to branch out and go to other places apart from Pattaya. Pretend that I am a cultured person. Tell everyone that I like Paris, Milan and Venice. I prefer Blackpool, Benidorm and Pattaya, dripping with culture I am.
At least you're honest and not trying to kid yourself like most of these mongers
You've sold it to me Eddie, they have an MK so all good.
Good Job Steady Eddie
Thankyou
You were so close to finding the big painted picture of jurgen klopp in UD town
Scouser calling somewhere scruffy555 never judge a book by its cover Eddie, had some of my best times in issan roi et city is 1 of my favourite places.always tell people I meet go explore there's more to Thailand than the streets of pattaya.
SAWADEE, its good that your now seeing a real Thai town as opposed to tourist-traps. Yes, you will see good and bad, but you're no longer a '2 week millionaire' (tourist).
As somebody else put Isaan is a Region not a province. It contains 20 Provinces & to put it’s size in perspective it has roughly the same land mass as Cambodia & a population of 22 Million compared to Cambodia 17 Million.
Eddie check Nong Pra Jak Park at 6 oclock at night. its a beautiful place.
Weres steady eddy goin to make ya home base at now?? An apartment or condo
I'll travel a bit more and then settle somewhere
Thanks for the video Ed.
Udon thani looks like a nice relaxed Thai Town.
That was a grand tour of the town. Maybe you could comment on the expat scene in all these towns. Which is the best place to retire to?
I love Udon ❤
Thanks for the videos Ed.
Good to hear from you
Eddy to save money you should cook a bit for yourself. In the Philippines I didn't really cook; however, I ate loads of the small bananas (which are in Thailand) and other fruits. I never felt better and dropped loads of weight. You mentioned China in one video. Word to the wise as I worked there unfortunately during covid: DO NO GO THERE. It is an absolute shit hole.
DON'T GO to China? Can you elaborate on your China experience? What makes it so bad? What city you were in?
I wanted to go there someday to see the History, maybe go to Xian and follow the Silk Road.
I thought it would be okay for a budget traveller like me, and maybe hire a few female guides ♥️😉
Wish I was there.. fabulous weather.
.. cold in UK.. glad you're having a wonderful time
Never been to Udon Thani, how are the ladies in this fine town Sir?
Eddie got burnt
@@jackcooper8153 What happened?
@@jackcooper8153 Yes, but their has to be some honest ladies too, I hope
There are plenty of ladies around
They look bland these Thai towns and they look like each other , the bus stations the government buildings , the railway stations etc .
Still I like the places and the people .
That heart man 😂😂😂😂
Nice video. You produce some watchable videos when not drinking and rambling, slurring & repeating yourself. Well done.
I appreciate that!
What about the prices compared to Bangkok?
A cheaper cost overall
Not seeing the appeal to be honest. One downside of Thailand is the architecture is quite boring. Just endless box-shaped stores with apartments above, 7-elevens, KFCs, malls, etc. Best to stick to the beach towns and villages.
Udon has 5 modern Condo complexes. Nong Khai is only 60 Km up the road & on the Mekong River front of which Thailand has 920 Km & there are now 5 friendship bridges with 4 being in Isaan at Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan across to Laos & all these places are popular with domestic Thai tourists.
I like the overlay music , who is it Eddie
Mini vandals, RUclips Audio
@@STEADY599thanks mate
Seen one Thai town seen em all, where are you off to next?
Nong Khai
Soon Cha-lee go there , he will show you around
@@STEADY599 Danish corner bar is a good expat bar
Good stuff Steady. I DID Udon 10 years ago, had fun. Popped up to Nong Khai for a couple days. A little quieter but quaint on the Mekong. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Keep up the great content!
I did same Visa run in 2013 by Mini but from Pattaya
Thanks for the look Eddy. Refreshign to hear someone say "'What' WHAT DOES UDON THANI TOWN LOOK LIKE?" and not "HOW" DOES UDON THANI TOWN LOOK LIKE? as all the woketh speakers say is the new and properish "Engrish"
It has everything you want. Pleasant walk. Like you say it grows on you. Safe travels. Salute Mr Eduardo.
Where you are across from nutty park goodays cafe nice food the issan ferang eats there
Good reason to avoid it then😆😆
@@moonrakerudon6741 guess you met him and hi so love myself pooky
Used to be horseraces every saturday
Its Walkabout Eddie.
If you want to live there even in isaan provence which is much cheaper, than the main tourist areas you cant live out of cheap hotels every day its still too exspensive just throughing money, away thats what i think if you want to live you need your own place a cheap little flat not moving allover the place staying in,cheap hotels that weekly are still too exspensive you have self cater to live in thailand in your own place
Nice to see Udon again.relaxed video. Brings back good memories 😊
Beautifully done Eddy! Maybe I missed it, but is there much of an ex-pat community there? Thanks
Yes, very popular with expats.
Ok thanks. Hoping for spot like this that is not overrun@@STEADY599
Nothing special. A place where Thai people live. Not really exotic either. Where is your next destination? Other than taking a walk, there is nothing for a retired expat to do. Eddie, why are you wearing a winter hat with a chin strap? There is no wind and it is 90 degrees F. Why don't you buy a hat more suitable to the tropics?
Obviously a bit of horse play in the town Eddy but you wouldn't know about such things mate... lol. UDT is a great town for most anything you want or need. Bushyboy Oz.
Who you trying to convince ? Us or you? Gotta change the name to Ed’s aimless travels🤣🤣🤣Not exactly incredible content you are putting out Ed
So so true
I think he has brought a lot of his so called viewers
What do you mean??? It's full of info on McDonald's and Burger King and pizza shops. And info on beer etc. Eddie's a man of the world,. He's been to all the top mongering destinations and eaten the Sunday roast and drunk beer. He's got lots of followers. Look at all the comments. If you can read the appalling grammar.
Eds all about the views these days not the content
Hi Eddy.! It seems like you’re having such a great time traveling around Thailand 🇹🇭 . Is very refreshing watching new places like Udon Thani and other destinations you been looking recently. Certainly is a very Charming and relaxed Town. Well done yourself Eddy. Top notch Video. Keep safe and enjoy your adventures 🙏👍👏
Thanks, Javier. Good to meet you.
Issan is not a province, it's a region. Agree about the look of the city, always struck me as a bit ugly and utilitarian. Heat? you might try a white hat with some mesh for ventilation. Black plastic is just a recipe for fried noggin ;)
Hi EDDY
I can see you as the mayor of Udon Thani someday, Eddy!
I think I'd like that! Thankyou
Nice one Steady
Thank you kindly
Do you not find the shipping vendors move there clothing rails on the pavement making it hard to walk on the pavement they pinch every inch of the pavement very annoying i lived inbudon for 7 months last year
Anything there for mongers my boy ??? ...... Girls, beer, full English breakfast, Chang vests and baseball cap ???
Ed u wanna lose heat..lose the leather hat mate ..ur cooking ur folicles
Another great informative video Eddie, cheers from Dave, from Crewe, in Manila....drinking Red Horse, would be rude not to su
pport the local business
Udon thani good to visit ,I must go again
Interesting walkabout ed i had the same impressions as you really a little bit shabby but its real Thailand. Are you going to chang mai area ?
I won't be going to CM on this tour. Laos next.
A most enjoyable vlog with a bouncy musical background. I’m glad you found a congenial part of town. You’re at your best when showing us things we haven’t seen before.
Thanks, Dave
Could do with some of that sun here in the UK mate, seems like you're enjoying yourself good on you
I don't want to feel cold weather ever again. Cheers, Colin, all the best.
Nice one mate 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Hi Eddy, can you still find some "paid" love in the afternoon in UT?
I like Burger King but not necessarily in Thailand.
It’s pretty expensive and mostly pork or chicken burgers, if you get beef its not cheap.
By the way ill definitely pay Udon Thani a visit when im next in land of smiles next year, maybe tie it in with Laos.
Thanks for sharing your tour very enjoyable
Thanks for watching
Where are the birds, Eddie? The only reason to venture in this part of Thailand is to meet an innocent province girl.
Anybody that thinks McDonalds is better than BK (other than breakfast) is not to be trusted with reviews.
good ol reliable kfc. what's it cost there for a two piece chicken, fries and coke?
Eddie great video, need to show the scruffy side as well, for a balanced review.
ED good vid town looks nice have a beer or 2 check out the islands some time koh samui cheers
Is there a Boystown in Udan Thani? I sure hope so!
Nah. It’s a shirtlifter free zone
Much better reports than Judith charmers and Frank and Nesta bough.
Hello ed, i said hello to you in Pattaya i was on soi honey sitting outside the old retox sport bar, now hemmaways, i shaked your hand anyway back in London now my next visit is udon for a few day's April do you recommend i stay in Central, cheers.
Yes, Central Udon is where it's all at. Good to hear from you.
Cheers @@STEADY599
Making us jealous by forcing us to watch the condensation drip down the side of the beer glass. Simply evil.
Udon Thani not for me Eddie. Been once and won’t be back. It’s all about preference and I prefer the South of Thailand . Hau Hin is a good base I think. Easy access to Bangkok and then anywhere you want to go is easy. Pattaya in my opinion is a cesspit and not for me anymore . Good luck with your retirement .
Udon is not for everybody but it’s easy to get places from. You got flights to Bangkok all day long & they only take 1 hour, Daily direct flights to Phuket. 4 days a week direct flights to Chiang Mai. Before the Pandemic there was daily direct flights to U-Tapao & that is supposed to be coming back. Then there is the speed train from Bangkok to Nong Khai which is scheduled to be in operation in 2028 & will make the journey time from Bangkok to Udon Thani about 3 hours.
Not much there if you ask me . I can see why all the girls want to leave and go to Pattaya. Money .....
Udon looks bbbb..berrr boring.
Has anyone there asked you who David Coleman is yet ? Lol.
Not that I recall...
@@STEADY599 one day they will. Lol
Red lotus lake you must visit just outside town
